The saddest part IMO are the Tumblr people who think this means Sony are going to give them more Miles Morales.

Far From Home is closing in on twice Spider-Verse's profits. They're going to keep making live-action Peter Parker movies forever.

Sony can't. Pretty sure they only have a 9 picture deal with the option to extend to 12 not including crossovers or spinoffs, but that was circa 2001.

No reason we can't have Peter movies from one and Miles movies from the other company, but I guess with the Fox deal sorted someone had to start being a dick about IPs.

Yeah and the stuff they had I was interested in was ridiculously priced I asked how much Action Master Devastator was and he said it was £25! Not to mention I think after I said I was collecting G1 that he must've named evey G1 figure on the table I mean Jesus Christ just let a guy look and if I saw something I liked I'd of bought it. I was actually going to buy a few things but after them trying to sell me everything I thought there was people in that room far more deserving of my money. So Blue Beetle on the off chance you read this sort your shit out I can easily imagine I wasn't the only one turned off by the fact you were trying to sell me your entire table of figures even after I said I wasn't interested.

Also on the topic of TFN traders massive shout out to the spacebridge I asked if they had any G1 Ultra Magnus parts and he said it'd be cheaper to just buy the whole figure so I went and grabbed the one off Toy-Fu for £25 and it was missing a white leg panel so I went back to the Spacebridge to purchase that piece and he gave it me for free. what a guy

I don't have much faith in the rest of the MCU the only things I'm excited for are Guardians 3 and Doctor Strange 2 I would be really looking forward to Thor 4 but it seems they'll be pushing the whole political crap with female Thor (similar to the TF5 trailer with the whole fight like a girl crap ) honestly I'd of been more than happy for them to leave it at Endgame it's pretty clear now that they're just going to run the MCU into the ground with political crap and it won't get a good ending as they'll get overconfident as they did with Star Wars until one of their films bombs badly leading to a mass panic at Disney because we all know that Disney collectively shit themself when that happened.

You'd probably qualify for PIP or ESA if you're having problems getting basic stuff done - obviously a totally shit assessment process but if you can get documents of the depression the sooner you can get to the tribunal phase of worst comes to worst. Solidarity - depressive catatonia is the pits, but try and get as much out of your hobbies as you can.

I mean, I'm with Sony on this one. Apparently, Disney wanted to split the profits 50/50, on an IP they don't even technically own, after Spiderverse and Homecoming have shown Spidey can stand on his own two feet. Is making all the rest of the money in the world not enough for them? (I mean, obviously not, because that's how the world works now.)

Devils Advocate time. I had a really great positive buying experience with Blue Beetle, chatted with him about collecting and why he's selling up, what bits he's keeping etc...
Coming from retail background I like an enthusiastic seller, and the few bits I bought from him were in such stunning condition at least 5 of the Pube Con crew threatened to steal my toys and bought items from his the next day.
Each to their own, I guess he was flying high from a positive weekend and perhaps was too overzealous for some? We are all different after all.

I know some people find my sales techniques too pushy because I say hello and use open questions to start conversations. But fuck 'em, I know how to retail and give a positive shopping experience even if people dont buy anything (which is absolutely fine!), I'd rather that than ignore people or sit and look bored.

Nice to see people recognising Paul Hitchens at Spacebridge as the superb legend that he is. Ironically I know I defended him many times over the last 25 years where some people find him abrasive, not every customer loves every seller and vice versa.

    COMRADES! HELLO!

Oh wait it's the Swarm again

    IMG_E7891.jpg

TFN rocked! Loved seeing those of you I there saw, tunes now arise around ears we grew in ancient days!

(Translation: Neuta got drunk at the pub quiz in the depths South of the River and is now grooving to songs you won't like as if most of history never happened.)

NATION OF TRANSFORMINGDOM! WAKE WORLD AND SEE US!

"And I awoke and found me here, on the cold hill's side."

    OH WELL

    NEVER MIND

Convention post to follow! May possibly have been the best TFN yet!

You all rock my brahs and sistahs!

Civilisation will be resumed; watch this space (meanwhile, hugs and pints and songs where they don't sing).

    :) :) :) :)  :D  :D    :) :)

Is the Nite Wotch still a thing......?

Siege is an odd line for me. It hits the G1 homage hard in bots like Flywheels/Skytread, then goes 'same but styled' in Hound and Prime and Astrotrain, and then goes 'screw it, CYBERTRON' with Seekers and Ratchet. I can see the pattern, but its like parts of the line dont even seem to fit other parts of the same line.

That Skyfire though..... Jeez. That looks lovely in all the right ways and I really think that I need that one in my life. It seems outstanding. Meanwhile, I have been revisiting the GenToy Constructicons as part of my moving process. That is a serious team that might have actually been designed specifically for me. They just bring the magic just by picking them up. The styling, transformations, character..... I really appreciate that GenToy gave them all a unique character.

In similar theme, does anyone have the GenToy Protectobots. Good? Recommended? Pricey!

Yeah, its the big stores mostly. Singapore was awesome at getting stuff ahead of even the US until about three months after I arrived, and which point we just get stuff very slow now. I am sure its coincidence. The import shops like OhMyPrimus are still awesome, and we are at least reliable. We dont have wave two on shelves yet.... but I am pretty sure that it WILL show up, which takes pressure off that was a real problem for me in the UK.

Prices are stupid here now though, and constantly rising. Siege Deluxes are now S$35 (21GBP) and Voyagers are S$54 (32GBP). Leaders are S$100 (60GBP). TRU here is full of Siege Shockwave and now Ratchet, Studio Dropkick and Megatron, those three exclusives I already mentioned.....

I have taken a more relaxed attitude to collecting now. I picked up Siege Hound, Flywheels and the Con jet and Bot military micro teams. I will probably grab a Shockwave on clearance as he is everywhere right now. Galaxy Convey has been sighted, but I havent seen him, and I really want a Red Alert. My recent purchases have been odd one-offs - Ectotron from the US, Bulldog, SoC Xabungle and a HiMetal Macross from AE...... The last TF I got from a shelf here was...... BotBots I think. Before that, Siege Hound and FlyWheels. I think that I am going to have to pass on the Seacons too, which pains me. But they are looking pricey for the full set, almost TFC Seacon prices. I dont really have anything that I MUST have right now.... and thats a nicer way to collect for me.

Well ...... damn! Those are epic. I missed this thread!

I ended up with these, including managing to get the Smart Robin extra head from an awesome person on these boards who bought the FP figure it wa sbundled with and didnt have Smart Robin and sold it at a very reasonable price without wanting to gouge other fans. Really appreciated.

I picked up the FP Brainstorm with faceplate, Chromedome second release with more G1 paint, and Highbrow (that I havent opened yet).... and then went to Takara TR for Skullcruncher, Mindwipe and Wierdwolf, which I am very happy with. Add in the IF Scorponok, and the soon to be released Hasbro Apeface and hopefully Snapdragon..... The only hole is FP pissing around with their releases.... I was waiting for their Snarl forever and finally got him for my Dinobots, but gave up waiting for their Hardhead and picked up the TW version for that. He is bigger than the FP Autobot Headmasters, but it kind of fits, so I am ok with that just to not be waiting around for something that FP probably wont ever even release now!

Yeah, my understanding is that Sony and Disney had an agreement, and when it came to renew it, Disney wanted to change it all up from 50/50 to giving Sony about 5%. And honestly, right now, Disneys stranglehold on pretty much everything is something I am really not enthusiastic about.

Pretty sure that trying to ensure better female representation in movies where there previously hasn't been much isn't "political crap". I for one welcome more female heroes in the MCU (and movies in general) because to be honest it gets a bit dull seeing the same white males in everything. I would agree that the specific TF5 trailer wasn't representative of the eventual movie, but I appreciate their half-hearted attempt to get young girls to watch the movies.

Anyhoo, not wishing to open a can of worms...

Transformers-related: Does anyone have a spare/junker FOC Grimlock? I only need the T-rex arms, as I unwittingly received an incomplete one via Ebay. I could return it but it's the G1-coloured one and I've been after him for ages.

Reading the shit news now that Sony will be yoinking Spidey back - presumably to make total shit like AMazing Spidey 2.

I'm NOT with Sony on this (unsurprisingly) for the above - they were running the character through the floor and they knew it - and the fact is that I frankly don't give a shit about Disney.......it's Kevin Fiege and Crew that have the bottled-lightning on tap right now and I have ZERO confidence in Sony doing anything worthwhile except sitting on the rights till they can't anymore.

They can make a decent Miles Cartoon (hopefully) but Warners were making great DC Cartoons and animateds for years and we all know how well the DCEU ended up. Sony have even less live action "talent" to work with.

The MCU is clearing a Billion dollars a film and Sony have to do FUCK ALL to get their slice. If we are talking "Corpoarte Greed" then let's have that discussion when yet another Actor is committing career suicide trying to play Spidey in a film where he will be Deadpooled off the screen in his own Universe by Venom.

Not for me thanks. Not even with a shotgun to the temple.

And steering away from "Political" (give me fucking strength really?!!) I've got Doc Strange, future Black Panthers and the freaking ETERNALS to look forward to, so I'm going to be good for a while yet.

Fuck all the noise that billows around us from the TV, the papers, the internet, the minds of pointless others; friends and comrades only ONE thing matters:

Love the good and kindhearted with the last breath in your body; abominate the selfish, the greedy, the cruel.

This story a few hundred thousand years old now fam; we ALL know how it goes no matter what chaff gets launched to turn our heads away.

I know you all knew that already; well here's a picture of Glaurung.

    glaurung glaurung.jpg

Glaurung, of course, is a massive see you next Tuesday. Mean in spirit, grasping, callous, destructive. Think what fun he would have in our world today!

(As I don't discuss politics online please apply the above statement to anything you ever see anyone say, here or elsewhere.)

(I apologise for the interruption, and now return you to your regular scheduled EnableThread. Cheers m'dears!)

It's actually the opposite, Disney wanted to move for a 50/50 collaboration from the 5% gross they'd been getting, and Sony said no.

It sounds like you're catching the 'episode' at the start rather than letting it sneak up on you, which is a good way of making sure it doesn't get out of control. You're self aware and thinking about problem solving, and that's a really useful place to be in when you're feeling the depression coming on.

Also, you can use PIP to cover the costs of mental health services that you might want to tap into, such as counselling. As @Seeaich suggests, it's worth considering all the options around what's available to you and weighing up what feels right for you, though it sounds like you already have clarity around that. Good luck!

Look who turned up! Hello handsome.

I have no complaints about Hitch whatsoever, he helped me complete my G1 Bruticus with a metal chested Swindle and a Classics release Blastoff (rub symbol space is smooth) decent prices too.

That the chrome chested one? I could part with that if you’re that bothered. Will need to find him though as he’s in the shed somewhere

I mean it's pretty much the collective of two people who co-own the goose that lays golden eggs both stabbing it at the same time whilst also stabbing their own thighs, except instead of people it's two rapaciously psychopathic corporations doing the business as usual 'F*** you I got mine' manoeuvre.

Chances of getting PIP for depression are basically zero, because they'll say depression can get better. ESA is what you should be getting, but it's a bloody nightmare. You have to use specific examples of not being able to do things to demonstrate how you meet the criteria, while they will take massive leaps of "logic" and infer all kinds of stuff from information you give them to "prove" that you can do things. My favourite one being "I stayed at my mum's place for a couple of days once in the past twelve months. My mum's place has stairs. Therefore, I don't have any difficulty going up or down stairs."

    Weekly ramble!

Poor Reflector. Never was an early TF so brutally side lined. His one good scene in the comics and he (or part of him. we'll get to that) spends it lying on the floor. He didn't fare all that much better in the cartoon, getting written out after the first season.

Unlike all those other toys we didn't get in the UK, I didn't really have that great a curiosity about old Reflector. My only real memory of the guy is the scene where he and Thundercracker take some photos in 'Arrival from Cybertron'. The three into one and multi tracked voice gimmicks were kinda cool, I guess, but there was nothing really all that interesting about the dude.

I did actually get to play with a Reflector as a kid. A school friend that lived on a street near mine managed to get one. I can't exactly recall how, but it was something to do with his Dad's work. I probably stopped paying too much attention as I examined this obscure toy that I'm not sure I even knew existed prior to this. Alas, I also can't remember what my critical assessment of the toy was, though I imagine it went along the lines of 'a transforming camera is pointless'.

Because of his near complete absence form the comics I didn't feel compelled to get a Reflector when I started collecting again. File alongside Punch/Counterpunch, and the clones. And, like the aforementioned, when I find out there's a new Generations version coming out I suddenly need to buy one. That and I like getting toys in the post.

And when Reflector arrives in the post my first thought is 'what a pity'. Reflector is an awesome little trio of robots and the fact they were so underrepresented was a crying shame, not to mention the fact they homogenised three excellent, unique and characterful designs. It's such a shame that they decided it'd be better if they just did a mash up of Viewfinder and Spyglass.

Viewfinder steals the show by a hair. There's something about the combo of those big shoulders, the lens chest, and that moody looking face that makes this guy a winner. Spyglass rocks a very Decepticon colour scheme, which may explain why they modelled Reflector more on him than Spectro. He's got an amazing head sculpt and excellent chest detail, which is good because he loses points for having knees that only bend backwards. Spectro himself stands out mainly for his excellent big red chest. Beside that and the fact that you can press the button on the top of his head, he does less to distinguish himself than the other two. The fact his arms fold into his chest means that he can't have as cool a sculpt as Spyglass and there's very little difference between their faces.

And it must only be the fact these three all combine to form something as prosaic as a camera that made the Marvel and Sunbow people to look past these guys. They're a cohesive little team and all have more articulation than many of their contemporaries There's really nothing lame about them. Apart from the camera mode.

But is that lame? I mean, my childhood self probably thought so, but I wonder if he was in a minority. As I look at it with adult eyes (and uh, play with it with adult hands?) It's pretty cool. Ok, it doesn't have the cool gimmick that Soundwave had, where you can store extra robots inside him for alt mode verisimilitude, or the sheer badassery of being a Walther pistol, but it's still pretty neat.

So, we've finally got a cartoon accurate Reflector. Now, while there's no denying that this a very cool and satisfying thing, I can't help but feel just a little bit underwhelmed by what we've got. And I guess that's no-one's fault by the design team on the G1 cartoon; Reflector is, and always has been, a bland genericon.

Every time I make a bold statement like that I'm sure I can hear a sharp intake of breath from the seasoned fandom. "We've waited 35 years for this, you schmuck. Now you're just going to trash it?!?!". Look, don't get me wrong. This a pretty cool figure. I don't think it's the best thing we've seen in Siege, but it sure as hell doesn't suck. But it doesn't wow me either. And it's all down to the bland design they're basing the figure off.

So let's just look at the figure without all that baggage. He is a well articulated and detailed figure that beautifully homages the dude(s) we saw way back in that first episode of the carton. All the extra 'greebled' detail really does a lot to bring the figure to life and the little touches, like the detachable shutter and the clear chest panel really do a lot to elevate the figure. Even the paint job is classy, with different shades of lavender on the legs and the red detail on his 'cuffs'. The facesculpt....bugs me. It's very bland. Even a little dopey. There's nothing wrong with it, per se. It's well executed. He just looks a wee bit vacant.

One thing I'm not going to pussy around on is the alt mode. the 'official' alt mode. you know what I'm talking about. We'll get to the other thing later.

So the apparently this is meant to be an 'artillery hovercraft'. Take off the weapon kibble and it's plank. It looks like nothing. There's not one angle that this thing looks good from. It certainly looks most embarrassing, to my eye at least, from the side. I don't want to play with it. And you know, that's got to be the baseline for a good alt mode, right? If you hated Soundwave's 'Airdrop' vehicle this is probably going to boil your blood.

But like Soundwave and his 'lamppost' mode, the Cybertronian vehicle kind of isn't the point.

But before we get to that, let's just address another elephant in the room.

Unless you're that sort of an outlier, you need three of these. Is it sleazy? Is anything a toy manufacturer does that makes troop building feel essential not sleazy? You really want me to buy the very same figure three times just so I can make it like it's meant to be?

    And of course I did.

I don't mind. not really. I'm an adult with disposable income. I budget for this. I'm really not being forced into anything and, much like I'm doing with Siege Jetfire, I can opt out of anything that doesn't fit my collection. Three Reflectors? That fits my collection. And you know what, this is a troop building exercise that's aimed at the adult collectors. No kid is going to have a scream fit because their mother won't buy them the three Reflectors required to make the cool 1980's style camera. They've even provided a somewhat more 'honorable' option that caters to the 80's nostalgia freak, where you can buy the 'Reconnaissance Team 3-Pack' and get a more 'real world' accurate camera and the figure re-decoed to look more like the toys (though I think it's a bit of a shame they didn't retool Viewfinder's head).

So anyway, the camera mode. Yes, you can combine all three Reflectors into a camera. On one level I should hate this, because like the individual vehicle mode, without the weapons kibble this is just a load of block. The main difference is that the way the kibble combines is very clever and the end result is goofy, but really satisfying. I'm never going to use it. I mean, maybe I'll take the odd silly photo of Thundercracker scratching his head while he tries to figure out how to lift something that size, but other than that I doubt I'll ever transform them into this mode again. But unlike the vehicle mode, I do actually want to play with this.

But one of the things that really charmed me about it was figuring out how to make the camera out of three robots. They don't cover it in the instructions. For the five minutes I spent assembling this camera mode I felt like a kid again. Going down blind alleys, having the occasional eureka moment and feeling some low level sense of achievement when it all came together. Don't get me wrong, this isn't hard. But neither is it obvious. It is definitely fun though.

If I really stop and think about this, it's kind of amazing we've got this. It's kind of what's wonderful about Siege. I can't imagine another line where this would have been possible, but also so ignorable that anyone that didn't care and just wanted a single Reflector figure could be fine. It really is this sort of loving attention to detail that's making the line so bloody satisfying.

He still looks totally vacant though!
