There's been a lot of debate about this subject lately. How do those of you who regularly attend concerts feel about the bands playing to tracks? I mean you're basically paying hundreds of dollars to hear and see them lip sync. It's getting absurd. There's video out there of "singers" dropping their mic's while they are still singing.

idk depends on the genre. i don’t really want a hardcore band lip syncing. if it’s uhhh katy perry who cares? she’d be dancing and have outfits and an extravagant stage show, her singing is only part of the show. i think kp actually sings tbf

lots of electronic and hiphop people have complete backing tracks playing while singing overtop of it and idk that’s fine too. those genres aren’t defined by physical instruments exactly and it helps them do crowd work.

lip syncing and backing tracks are different though. if you’re miming your playing in a rock band that’s kinda lame but lots of tracks feature more instruments than band members so i get it as a necessity of putting on a live show. lots of bands trigger samples while playing (rush) and that’s technically cheating but it’s only 3 dudes!

i think it’s hard to make hard absolute statements in music because there’s so many genres with different goals

I mean for some rock bands now they are playing to a tape. Also, the price of concert tickets is beyond ridiculous now. Just heard on a talk show how someone paid $50 just to be on a presale for KISS. Then they dropped another $296 for one ticket that turned out to be over $400 due to over $100 in surcharges. Who the hell can even afford to go to a concert these days?

Wow has someone that plays in an original band and sings i can honestly say no way in hell I'd ever play to tape. Playing/singing is what makes it fun, if it isn't fun I wouldn't be doing it!

Concerts = live music. End of story. If I want to listen to a record, I will stay at home.

Favorite genres are House and Alt Rock. If I had to choose favorites, then they would be Daft Punk and The Pillows.

I like any music, especially when it’s made with talent and love for the art but there are some corporate manufactured songs that are great too.

Favorite genre is hiphop with my favorite group being Freestyle Fellowship and favorite artist is part of that group, Myka 9.

Nah. The problem is that the HOF was set up for something specific. It'd be like them adopting Jai Alai players into the Baseball Hall of Fame...

For a few years now I'm a huge fan of a certain subset of Country Music. Country has been in the pits for years now due to radio country being...lowest denominator garbage. Bro Country, Hip Hop Country, Pop Country...garbage garbage garbage.

Then bands like Turnpike Troubadors, Mike and the Moonpies, Tyler Childers and so many others hit the indie scene and once I discovered that paradise of actually good stuff I haven't turned my radio on in years.

This. THIS is the guy that really made me see the light. Lotta good stuff but Tyler is fuckin' amazing. I often say that when most people say they don't like Country music, it's because they haven't heard stuff like this.
