Ugh. I get so upset when radio stations change format. One of the rock stations I listen to here in Seattle just flipped to of all things country.

Yep. Though (thankfully) around here, it does not happen often. Though one of the rock stations did change a bit. Moving from classic, to 90s alternative.

    Anybody here love Future Funk?
I follow a channel called Real Love Music that uploads a lot of great tracks. Future Funk samples a lot of mostly 80-90’s Japanese music with a modern twist, kinda spinning off from the Vaporwave genre but staying funky.

Some of my favorite artists are Night Tempo, Bigwave, Macross 82-89, and Tenma Tenma.

Totally happy The Moody Blues found their way in! That's a band that truly deserved it.

Bon Jovi? Eh, okay. They were the poster boys of the Jersey Rock scene in the 80's, as much as that has anything to do with...well, much of anything... "Livin' On A Prayer" proves to be a song that a guy can live off of for decades, I guess.

Dire Straits. Their credentials are good with four Grammys and a case load of other awards so I suppose they deserve it. I was just never a huge fan of the band myself.

Kind of bummed Depeche Mode missed the cut this year. But I guess the Moodys took the "ahead of their time band" slot this year.

Still hoping King Crimson eventually gets the nod...

Also, Nina Simone. It's a huge, huge deal that she's in this year, she did a lot for both R&B and for female musicians in general. Think of her as a black Bonnie Tyler, except better and more historically significant.

I can't really speak of her as my knowledge of her music is limited, at best. I really don't listen to too much pre-1967 music unless it's related to a Fallout soundtrack.

Agreed. A bit surprised Radiohead did not get in, but there is hope for the next HOF. Cannot remember if Pearl Jam got in or not. But if not, they should be in too.

Radiohead is on the verge. A lot of it is that they're still a relatively young and active band, which places quite a few still-deserving bands ahead of them in the queue...but I'm quite certain they have a future in the HoF.

    Bands/artists that really need consideration:

-King Crimson (or, individually, Robert Fripp and Tony Levin)
    -Depeche Mode
    -Jimmy Webb
-The Buggles (or, individually, Trevor Horn and Geoff Downes)
    -David Foster
    -Boz Skaggs
-The Bee Gees (seriously, how are the Gibbs not in there?)
    -Michael McDonald
    -Loggins And Messina
    -Bread
    -America

Most of these make sense, but I can't believe Depeche Mode didn't make it while The Cars did. I mean, even as a Cars fan, I still defy anyone to name more than 1-2 songs without using Google. And in terms of fan base and sheer tour size & sales, they are light years behind DM. Hell, nearly 40 years later, these guys are still selling out stadiums worldwide and even outsold Top 40 darlings like Bruno Mars, Ed Sheeran & Bieber in concert tickets this year.

    Challenge accepted:

    -My Best Friend's Girlfriend
    -Let the Good Times Roll
-...dang it, I know there's another one that's sang by another member of the band and it's on the tip of my tongue...

Okay, after Googling, there's more than just 1-2 big hits, though. "Shake It Up", "Let's Go!" and "Just What I Needed" still get lots of radio play.

But yeah, the Cars impact on rock music, to me, isn't that much different from that of, say, Huey Lewis & The News (who is ALSO not in the HoF).

Lately I've been listening a lot to 'Love on the brain' and 'Kiss it better' from Rihanna.

Oh absolutely, and good on you for remembering those, but the fact still remains that outside of "Shake It Up", "Just What I Needed" and *maybe* "Let the Good Times Roll" (after giving them time to think about it for a while), 95% of the world's immediate knowledge of The Cars starts & stops right here:

...really no different than the first, and usually only, song anyone remembers from Dire Straits is "Money For Nothing".

Sultans of Swing is another good Dire Straits song. How known it is though, is beyond me.

Anyhow, it's been a good year for me in terms of concert attendance. ARW (Yes), Weird Al and Dream Theater...good stuff.

I didn't realize that Billy Idol was still touring.

    *Googles

Oh hey! His last album was a Buggles side project. I might have to get that one...
