Hasbro has a weird history with the Trek license:

I was hoping they’d make a 3.75” fully articulated line of figures similar to what they did with Star Wars TVC. Wasn’t sure if their license allowed for that before it expired.

First error card! Data on Riker back...
    20220907_172316.jpg

still not a fan of the phaser beam coming out...if they did all the weapons like that I might begrudgingly accept it but nope, only the STNG phasers have it...Data's hands look a bit too tiny...the phaser has a clip to hold onto a little better this time around...

Hoping we can get a full twok crew this time...we only got Kirk, Chekov and Scotty last time...Janeway and Saavik too but no Uhura, Spock, Sulu or McCoy, even though they could have reused Kirk's body to give us at least Sulu and Spock, Uhura out of Saavik and McCoy out of Chekov...it's a nicely sculpted figure...ball jointed ankles, knees, elbows, shoulders and neck...twisting wrists but no waist joint again like the Discovery duo...

i get a kick out of them using the neon green to represent Borg infection...neat way to explain the ever-present wild coloring on prop replicas that cannot be made in realistic colors like silvers, greys, blacks...

The BoP looks great. The set also seems far more playable than the Enterprise did. Presumably a kid could actually swoosh this one around.

The TNG font would've been so much more appropriate for those Nerf phasers.

The hand phaser is also the first contact type. The tv series phaser had a straight handle but starting in first contact they changed to the curved handle also known as the boomerang phaser

You're right, I was distracted by the oversized midsection which is way too big for the FC boomerang. Oh boy, happy... 26th anniversary to First Contact?

On the new playmates Star Trek figures, are the hip joints actual ball joints where you can just move the leg forward to make it move forward to kick? Or do you have to rotate at the hip, then move along a hinge?

I don't normally go in for roleplay toys, just not my thing. Making an exception here though! Lucked out and found a TOS phaser at my usual Target, snagged it since it was the only one (and no Enterprise or action figures either, at least yet). Small thing that amuses me: it's actually in the box upside-down, so the try-me hole doesn't cut through the art.

As a toy/prop, it looks pretty bang on and fits my hands well. The trigger stud feels weird, but it's on-model and it's not like you're going to sit there and hold it down. I do find the setting knob to be a little hard to manipulate, but my copy might just be stiff; and it's basically never going to leave stun anyway. Made sure all the noises and such work, but I can't figure for the life of me where the 'kill' noise is from - or, what episode, really. Overload is a nice shriek and kaboom.

All in all, neat toy, decent display piece as long as the screwholes face the wall! And if you want a cheap-ish cosplay prop, this'll sort you. I could totally go for an OG communicator and tricorder too, if they were on par with this.

If you have the older Diamond Select props, better or worse than them?

    I don't, alas.

Did find out that a Bandai Act 5 stage is a pretty perfect stand - use the main arm and just the C pincers, angle it right and the phaser can sit on the butt of the grip while the pincers slide between the body and the emitter. I stuck a spot of double-sided tape under the grip to keep it in place.

Doesn't really say much. My Diamond Select is mostly dark grey. It uses weird batteries and the effects aren't particularly bright or loud. At least the Playmates uses AA batteries.

DST is more accurate in pretty much every way...removable phaser 1 unit, proportions are better...new Playmates is a very good toy for the price though, and has a few unique features like the light-up dial and two different led colors

I would love to have a six inch fully articulated line similar to the black series. A wok bridge playset and a new electronic refit Enterprise too.
