Just reading through this thread, I don't think things like wanting a waist swivel, things locking into place properly (or at least holding properly with friction) like the Mastadon's flip through arms or the weapons actually being gripped by the hands vs. sliding around the holes is them is reallly upscale or "elitist" type thinking. I feel like the general complaints about Daizyujin are bringing it up to snuff in terms of having the fit and finish that a $300 collectible marketed as high end should. Wishful actually brings up a fantastic point in that it does quite a bit that many SoCs don't and it's entirely true; personally I just wish it did what it does better vs. wanting it to do more.

Taurus' point about purchasers of GX-72 (and honestly GX-71) not necessarily being 1:1 with the general SoC collecting community is also a great point and shouldn't be dismissed. Those two releases brought a huge amount of new people to the line and it makes sense due to them having a significantly larger global popularity than other properties the line has covered. Look at threads like this, even; they've never seen the amount of regular discussion that they got because of these releases and reissue.

Overall, pretty much every post has had really valid, solid points and from the outside it's been a great read.

^ This 1000%. All the Godaikin modernized SOCs have the ability to sit in a nuetral pose that mimics the vintage toy but if you want more it’s often there. I really like the SRC Megazord because it’s so fun and dynamic.

3rded. I think the nest description of what @TattooedRobot is saying that I've ever seen is the Bandai Ultra-Act God Zenon. That thing literally looks like a man in a cardboard costume but then it has hidden, advanced joints that let you do damned near any pose you want with it and because of that it's one of my favorite toys ever.

I think we get a bit overworked on both ends regarding the Megazord. It's actually quite a nice piece, with a few minor items for criticism. But it feels over priced when compared to Voltron. $40 less and the flaws would seem much more minor.

As a new SOC collector, the GX-71 (Voltron), GX-72, GX-78 and GX-85 (Ultrazord) drew me into the SOC line. Since then, I've learned to appreciate the aesthetic and the build of SOC, as well as the other offerings from SENTINEL, GFFMC, and Metal Build. It opened a new door for me as a collector.

Welcome aboard. If GX-71 and 72 bring in more fans that’s awesome.

The Megazord to me never felt like an SOC. It's like when they first did the Legacy version they just said let's just use this $20 mold from a few years ago and roll with it. Then it sold really well and they were like damn, lets build a Dragonzord to go with it even though that figure was never really intended to work with another figure. Then that did pretty well so they were like lets go all out on Titanus.

SOC feels like the reverse of that process. Like we have this really great Titanus that is leagues better than the Megazord it was built around. Lets retool it, slightly redesign the Dragonzord and then actually make a new Megazord to the similar quality but within the limitations set by the Dragonzod and Titanus. Since Voltron was $300 and is more or less the same concept (central bot combine with limbs), we can surely charge $300 for this too.

I want someone to go all out and make the ultimate Megazord, to the same quality as Voltron, without any considerations for "Ultrazord". I don't care about the Ultrazord. No matter what, once you combine all 3 sets, you are always going to get a brick. It's been done 3 times now. Now I want a Megazord with no compromises for combination with other figures. Also wouldn't mind an SRC Dragonzord.

I think branding had an effect too. With the SOC branding comes higher expectations. Had it been marketed as a modern Daizyujin and NOT part of the SOC line it may have had a better reception. IMO, this should've been the Legacy Megazord, not the 2010 plastic Megazord swapping out some plastic parts for diecast metal.

I had the original Megazord back in 94 and liked it. Got the Legacy one, found it to be okay. SOC Daizyujin is a big leap forward from both yet familiar enough to both to transform without instructions. So I was happy with that.

Would people still have expected SOC Daizyujin to pose like the SRC and/or exceed the limitations that the suit actor had onscreen had it not been part of the SOC line? Would the same folks who bought it and were disappointed with it, have bought it if it wasn't part of the SOC line?

Hell yea I would've loved to be able to pose SOC Daizyujin like it's crouching with double jointed knees and also had double jointed elbows, a waist joint without unpegging, dual ab crunch seen on Gunpla models, hinged wrists, et al. Even SOC Golion lacks most of those. However as is, I like SOC Daizyujin. My main disappointment was either the lack of a tab system to secure the sword in hand or the lack of swappable fixed pose hands to better hold the sword.

I get the desire for "a little more" but I think the main issue was that this was branded as an SOC and therefore, came with higher expectations despite coming from a genre(Super Sentai) where fully articulated, diecast, combining robot toys are few and far between(the only other one off the top of my head is Battle Fever Robo IIRC and that doesn't transform).

And sure, while I like SOC Golion a lot, I wish it could pose like Superminipla Golion, which was also designed by the same designer. And yes superminipla Golion does pose like it did in the anime.

I don't find SOC Daizyujin to be a perfect release. I just think it would've possibly been received better outside of the SOC line. Like made part of a Masterpiece DX Megazord line.

For example, if Muteki Shogun is made in the SOC line, by branding alone there might be an expectation for it to have the hips rotate beyond 100 degrees upward, have butterfly hinges with Tsubasa-Maru attached and be able to do the splits with feet flat on the floor; none of which was shown in the show. If it's not branded as part of the SOC line at all, I don't think the above expectations would be there. It would be AWESOME to see it be able to do what I mentioned, but I highly doubt Bandai would go that route.
That's a pretty rational/reasonable theory as to why SOC Daizyujin turned out the way it did.

    “I need Dragonzord power!”

Look what I got from Amazon.com for only $130.00! That was a very good deal for me.

Nice. At this point I've got the whole SOC Ultrazord so I think I'm done on Power Rangers.

UPDATE: After I opened it, I saw the Dragonzord was missing a left hand. I’m afraid I’ll have to sadly return it to the seller on Amazon. Oh, well.
