Coach Bombay and some of the original ducks, such as Charlie Banks might be coming back to the big screen.

Speaking about the possibility of a fourth installment during an interview with Time to commemorate the 20th anniversary of D2, producer Jordan Kerner said:

‘I’m not going to fuel the rumor mill that it’s going to happen, but I’m saying to you that the studio said to us, “We’d be interested if you come to us with the right story.”

Title is a bit misleading. It's not in development. They don't even have a script yet. The studio simply said they'd be interested in doing it.

It would only make sense if it were about their kids playing in District 5 and forming a new Peewee Ducks team.

The original cast would be too old for the NHL, they'd only be able to play beer league.

I enjoyed all three movies to an extent, but I wouldn't call any of them great. The third was definitely the least enjoyable though. I don't think it's necessary to revive this franchise. Just make a new kids movie about sports like The Mighty Ducks or The Sandlot. You don't have to go back to those. Make something like those that resonates with today's children and creates nostalgia for fans of those movies that were sports fanatics like the characters.

    To make money.

I bet the right story involves Emlio Estevez really, REALLY needing a paycheque.

Wow, Disney money is truly a powerful thing. First they manage to get Rick Moranis to come out of hiding again after ll these years, and now Emilio Estevez who doesn't even step foot in front of the camera anymore unless it's a bit part in his own movies that he directs.

Man I wish they could find something to lure out legends like Gene Hackman, Sean Connery & Jack Nicholson for one more go around too.

So from what I'm reading about this new show though... The Ducks are basically what the Hawks were in the first movie now. In other words, the Mighty Ducks are the BAD GUYS.

I don't really care about the movies but I did watch the cartoon series when I was younger. Always confused me how the cartoon series had absolutely NOTHING to do with the movies other than both including a hockey team called The Mighty Ducks.

The thing is the movie is based more in reality with the Mighty Ducks just being an ordinary human hockey team with a typical animal mascot. The animated series was a bunch of aliens who were ACTUALLY ducks and also fought a bunch of alien dragons in their off time. The series didn't really show the Hockey aspect that much. It'd usually bookend the episodes with the more crime fighter aspect of the show taking up the majority of the screen time... and as someone who hates sports the total lack of any actual sports in this show about a hockey team is the main reason why I watched the cartoon but not the movie.

You know what they should do for a Mighty Ducks 4... Crossover! Have the animated Mighty Ducks be like a silly cartoon series based on the "real world" movie Mighty Ducks in that universe. Bring back all the original cast who are likely all too old to still be playing hockey by now. Instead of making another boring sports movie focusing on a new team maybe being coached by whoever they can agree to return from the previous films they just have the Animated Ducks cross over into the real world and make that connection between to two seemingly unrelated Mighty Ducks.

Fans of the movies could get interested due to the returning movie cast while fans of the cartoon series could get interested due to the more fantastical elements being introduced. Though some people might hate it because the movies have previously been more grounded in reality and fans of the cartoon series might not like the Mighty Ducks being turned into CGI characters but no matter what they do people are going to find something to complain about.

Another benefit of involving the cartoon series in the movie's plot is I don't think the series ever had a proper ending. The Mighty Ducks had an ongoing story arc as well as episodic adventures but that ongoing story arc was never really resolved... at least I don't remember it ever being resolved. I think the series was cancelled and ended with a cliffhanger where a character who was thought to have been killed in the pilot was suddenly alive again and that was it... that's the last thing I remember from that series. I think they meant to continue the store in the next season but it never got renewed for another season so it just goes no where. If they did this cross over with the live action Mighty Ducks with the cartoon characters coming into the real world, they could also wrap up that unresolved story line.

Of course the movie fans aren't going to care about any of this but does anyone really care about a sequel to the live action films anyway? I mean what else are they going to do? It's a boring sports movie, they're all exactly the same... The first three Mighty Ducks movies are all basically the same movie... Play Hockey... win hockey game... woo hoo… At least bringing the animated Ducks into it would be something new and different that we haven't already seen before.

And yeah I'm admittedly bias here as I've admitted that I never really liked the movies in the first place. I don't get the appeal of them. I'm not going to be a great judge of what movie fans want to see in a sequel. I can only really say what I want to see in a sequel and throw some stuff in there for movie fans to HOPEFULLY get them on board even though they're probably still going to hate it. That said... I have a question for the movie fans out there... what if anything, would get you to accept the idea of a cross over between the Mighty Ducks movies and the Mighty Ducks animated series? Is there no way at all you'd ever want to see that in the more grounded real world setting of the films or is there any sort of compromise between the two very conflicting ideas that you'd be willing to give this crossover idea a chance?

How about this as an idea? What if they don't actually interact at all but the movie cuts to a B plot meant to wrap up that unresolved story line from the show. It's in the movie but it's clearly presented in the movie as part of a fictional cartoon series that exists in that universe. The A plot taking place in the real world could either mirror some similar themes from the cartoon but presented in a more realistic way or they could even tie it into actually making it about the production of the cartoon series based on the "real life" hockey team. The human characters the Ducks are loosely based on could even give some insight into their opinions on their animated counterparts, some might love it, others might hate it and at the same time that this cartoon is being produced one person who's just completely against the cartoon series and wants nothing to do with it is just trying coach the actual Mighty Ducks. That might be a better compromise that still gives me what I want to see with the occasional cuts to what's going on in the animated universe while still keeping the movie universe grounded in reality. Would that work better? I'm just throwing out ideas here. Let me know how, if at all, you'd be interested in incorporating elements of the Animated series into a movie sequel.
