You can't talk Pretenders without bringing up Dinoforce. I love how the shells were essentially dumb dinosaurs without the inner robots inside. They could form Dinoking and terrorize the Autobots while their shells could wreak havoc and collect energy.

dinoking, sounds like a nerdcore rapper or emo and/or deathcore band.

To clarify, there was no such thing as "Power Rangers" in North America in 1988. And I don't really remember the Turtles being that popular yet in '88 either.

Your right about the Rangers but not so much on the Turtles.

With out trying to sound "cliche" TMNT was pretty much an instant hit with most kids.

Really? Well according to the Wiki entry they had to air the pilot 3 times before it caught on. Not exactly what I'd call an "instant hit".

Funny because an other Wiki entry calls it an "instant hit".
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Teenage_Mutant_Ninja_Turtles_(1987_TV_series)

Wiki is just full of opinions.Thats why I dont rely on it.

Anyway GIJoe and Transformers both aired multiple times before they got regular episodes. Both were considered "instant hits" as well.

I loved the Cloudburst/Landmine story in the UK comics.

I always felt the Carnivac/Catilla storyline should have been reversed with Carnivac dying and Catilla joining the Autobots to avenge him.

Loved Marvel Skullgrin. Nice to see a Con whose not entirely evil.

    Hated Stormbringer.

I didn't like the pretenders either. Apart from the Mega Pretenders Thunderwing and Vroom. Making the shells transformable was a big plus in its favour for me. Still have both of them. Loved the monster pretenders too, but then again im a sucker for combiners.

I probably disliked the autobot pretenders more because they had weird vacant looking human faces. At least most of the decepticons looked like evil monsters. Would people remember Bludgeon so well if he hadn't been a frikkin skeleton samurai? Or Skullgrins gnarled face?

I think the IDW version of pretenders was a vast improvement. Personally I can't wait for Generations Thunderwing and Skullgrin. Sure they won't be pretenders, but I want them none-the-less!

I would agree with the Micromasters riding on the Micromachines craze during the day. For Pretenders, I'm trying to recall if it was the Ghost Busters cartoon's (The Real Ghost Busters) toyline that they were trying to compete with...and the first run of the Ninja Turtles.
