Wow... takes a lot of courage to make such a post.
I hope you are wearing your asbestos underwear.
I can't say that I'm totally shocked because the Oscars are more about the politics of Hollywood than the merits of the films or actors in question.
We are likely only going to get one Hugo. But with rumors floating around about Planet of the Apes 2 and Transformers 4 I'm sure the voters said oh we will give it to those films next time. Remember that Lord of the Rings didn't bring home it's boat load of Oscars until the third film even though the quality was pretty consistent across all three films.
As much as this disappoints me, hey, three NOMINATIONS are still a good thing! Way to go, artists!
Boo fucking hoo, DOTM didn't win anything, I'm not surprised.
exactly my husband is the same way and just doesn't get it.
He couldn't get past how Return of the King previously won for Best Picture and Harry Potter not even get nominated when it did better at the box office than Return of the King.
This has NOTHING to do with box office!!!
It has nothing to do with anything anymore.
The absolute fanboy RAGE in this thread amuses, yet depresses me at the same time when I remember how the same people bawling and threatening violence will do the same exact thing in two years.
tl;dr, so I'll just make some blanket rebuttals to things I know have happened in this thread:
Money doesn't equal quality.
I haven't seen it, but Hugo appears to have more artistic value and imagination than any of the Bayformers films ever had.
Then why are you mad, bro?
Polar Bears didn't have cheat-transformations and head panels that literally crawled up Optimus's back to wrap into place.
Its IGN...Plus Michael Bay directed it so therefore everyone NEEDS to hate it.
Actually its because ROTA had better animation than DOTM, and DOTM still deserved the award however.
Or maybe it's because RotPotA made a completely realistic and believable CGI ape with motion-capture technology.
On second thought, let's just assume Michael Bay is everyone's punching bag because...because...*sobs uncontrollably*
Watched the awards, I wasn't surprised it didn't win, but was hoping. Certainly some tough competition this year.
Studying anything remotely to do with the movie industry you quickly learn how much of a complete farce the Oscars are. I never take ANY of their awards seriously anymore cause they really don't mean much aside from someone paid someone enough or were generally well liked enough by the old guys who judge it to win. Public opinion, reviews and box office returns mean squat...
And to be blunt despite how well done the TF movies are they are summer blockbuster popcorn movies, not something the Oscars honestly take seriously.
I still can't believe Hugo won Best Visuals, if anything it should have definitely gone to Planet of the Apes, the visuals for Hugo were just so cartoony imo, nothing made me go "wow!" like DOTM and Planet of the Apes did
EDIT: Oh but the Muppets won best original song YAYAYYYY....even though there were only 2 nominations :/
I kind of had a feeling that DOTM would not get it, cause Michael Bay is attached, which is sad really but still the real winner should of been Apes!! Seriously...Hugo over ROTPOTA?!?! Old wankers!
This post is hilarious, because The Planet of the Apes came out in 1968.
This post is hilarious, because Rise of The Planet of the Apes came out in 2011.
Think of it this way, for all who have watched Real Steel.
Zeus might have won against Atom in the final round, (Hugo and DOTM in this case d: ) but Atom was the people's choice, so at least it still has some recognition.
I haven't seen Hugo, so I was a bit sad at TF being snubbed, but hey at least it WAS nominated! and that is a huge honor in itself!
i did not watch... I was watching The Walking Dead... the only time i would watch this crap is if Transformers made it into one of their categories, but otherwise i won't even bother. and especially the fact that it this snob organization threw Transformers 2007 under the bus and gave the Best SFX to that movie with a bear in it and with nicole kidman, nope.... this show has lost its relevance long time ago.. think of it as the Royal Family in Great Britain.. it's good to look at and watch, heck could even boost your repuation if you could somehow be associated with it in a positive way, but really it's just not relevant anymore.
