2 years from now: And the nominees for best visuals are: Transformers 4 , Planet of the apes 2, avatar 2, and....syfy channels "Sharktobearosaurus" and the winner is: "Sharktobearosaurus"! ^That could actualy happen after tonight.
I was just watching the bit where Optimus and Ratchet go on the moon to get Sentinel Prime and look how well done the ark is and when Optimus prass the button it blow my mind how well detail his hand was how can Hugo beat that?
I LOVE that Hound concept. It could actually work as a movie design and, like Long Haul or Shockwave, still be instantly recognizable as the character it's supposed to be.
He actually said on his DeviantArt account that even if they never use that design in the current films, that he'd like to see it in a "hard-reboot".
Upon seeing such dreadful failure, we should all listen to this while making one minute of silence in respect of all the injustice comitted: Transformers 3 Score-There is no plan - YouTube
First talking polar bears......and now trains stations and clock towers. Honestly, Hugo was a better movie than DOTM, but the people at ILM work their butts off on Transformers. Give them their well-deserved reward!
He did concept art for Dark of the Moon, right? If so, that might give this design a chance. I'd love to see it used somewhere official as well.
Agreed, it's unfortunate "The Academy" has this thing where they may like you but not what you are making and they pay you later when you come around to making what they like or the people who don't like you finally die and the new people vote you in for an award, look at my fellow Canadian Christopher Plummer it took him until he was 80 just to get nominated, who did he piss off so long ago? Bay's clip speech does him no future favours but I don't think he really cares he's counting the pile of loot he's sleeping on. And ya Hugo for Best Picture, "The Academy" has a lot of making up to do with Martin!
Why are we bitching guys? We knew we were going to get robbed but we got robbed by someone who we didn't expect. Who cares. We know our favorite movie was more than worthy of it and pretty soon we'll be getting a knew one.
Someday they're going to ask, "Where were you then they [The Academy] took over the planet?", and we'll just say, "We stood there and watched".
He did win a few years back for "The Departed", both Best Director and Best Picture. Both of which were well deserved. Not sure they have much to make up to him for.
Meh. I never really gave a shit about the awards, and I still don't. Although I do admit the idea that Hugo, which was pretty much a love letter to early French Film and the guy who pioneered the art form, supposedly had better VFX than movies like DOTM or even Real Steel, sort of annoys me. Unless it turns out most of the movie WAS special effects, as aside from the obvious, something seemed very, VERY stylized about most of the settings in that movie, like the Chicago Fair scene from Captain America.
in my eyes it's a lot easier to do crisp clean cgi rather than realistic looking cgi. plus.. with bay's shooting style it's probably even more difficult. rather than making their own dust and explosion-y type stuff.. bay shoots most of that real, and they have to finagle the cgi around what's in the shot. i'm no cgi wiz, but i'd think that that would be a harder task. the oscars are all political anyways. oh well. i can take comfort in my opinion that dotm has far better visual effects.
Transformers 3 Score - 10. The Fight Will Be Your Own - YouTube From here, the fight against the Academy will be our own.
Hey guys, just stopping in to say that "The Departed" is the most bloated, overrated movie in many, many years. Carry on!
The measure of best visual effects is not limited to how realistic something looks. There is a lot more to it than that. I agree that the effects in DOTM were fantastic, as were DH2 and ROTPOTA, but there may have been something to Hugo that those films didn't have. And don't complain about Weta or ILM not winning Oscars. Them winning an Oscar is like Tom Hanks or John Williams winning an Oscar.
