In a competitive market place, vintage toy collectors have to have their eyes and ears open the whole time in order to nail rare items. But we can’t always be everywhere, all the time. Sometimes real life and circumstance mean that we miss key auctions, deals, emails and opportunities. Other times a lack of experience, funds or better judgement dictate that we let an opportunity go begging instead of grabbing it with both hands. By the time we’ve learned our lesson, the moment is gone. We can only hope that fate gifts us a second chance…

I'd like to see some articles/interviews that focus on things other than diaclone/G1 and diaclone/G1 collectors.

Really good read as always Maz. I've got a few ones that got away myself but nothing to the scale you do :lol

Still need a damn Galaxy Shuttle though. If you come across another for 75 Euros, let me know ;)

My understanding is that Maz only collects diaclone and some G1, so that's what he writes about. Makes sense to me.

Yeah, for the most part that's true. I did write a few bits and pieces on Alternators and Binaltech, Movie toys, artwork and the odd Car Robots/Minicon stuff finds its way in too now and then :)

I would hate to write something on areas of TF collecting that I have never experienced myself, or know much about such as Beast Era, Prime, Energon, Cybertron, Galaxy Force, Armada etc. I don't think I could bring any value with my writing to those who know the lines more intimately.

I do definitely agree that I could add more variety, for the time being on TFsource there are the reviews by TJ, Peaugh and Phillip Reed on more current product including 3rd Party releases.

    All the best

As usual a great read, Maz! No complaints from me about the topics of your articles. This one hits close to home though: there's been plenty of ones that got away. One of the annoying things about living in Europe is US-based eBay auctions ending in the middle of the night. There's been plenty of TF's in my watch list which I missed out on due to being asleep when they ended.

I'm glad I haven't yet had any HUGE opportunities slipping through my fingers, though... Also glad to have a boxed and minty white Gig Galaxy Shuttle in my collection (although it was a lot more expensive than the €75 mentioned!).

As usual this is another great read. I often times wish I were in a postion to even consider many of these things. What carries me through is being thankful for the great collection I do have. :)

Loved this article Maz, like the others before it.

I have far too many regrets when it comes to TF figures, here are some:

    - MIB yellow Microchange Wagen, with a BIN price of US$150, I thought I could find one cheaper, ha!
    - MIB red Microchange Wagen, auction ended at around US$100, dunno what's the max bid of the winner, but it might have been lower than what I would've bid, I'll never know...
    - MOSC TFTM Lawson's exclusive metallic gold Bumblebee, starting bid was a bit over US$30, no one bid on it. It was relisted by the seller, auction ended at well over $100.
    - MISB G1 Pretender Bumblebee, starting bid was US$50 iirc, no one bid on it. Was relisted of course, and the winning bid was way beyond my budget for it.
    - MISP ROTF Tsutaya exclusive clear EZ Bumblebee, was bundled with an MISP EZ Stealth Bumblebee, auction ended at a bit over US$20. I have the DOTM TV boy clear Bumblebee and the EZ Stealth, but I still haven't found the Tsutaya clear one up to now.

Always my biggest regret - not doing the preorder for BAPE Optimus Prime v1 for $175. I'm a big BAPE fan. . . . Now I'll never get it for a decent price.

I missed out on that one too. With some online stores (like BBTS), even getting in a pre-order for green BAPE was not a guarantee that you'd get one. BBTS did however give out a warning in advance, so I can't really blame them for missing out.

Only a couple made it to the test shot phase and were sold on ebay and kotoys.com. He and his wavemate Mudbuster Bulkhead never made it to full production and release. Even Japan didn't touch Thundercracker for some reason.

The last Animated Voyager Thundercracker I saw on ebay went for over a grand.
