Just pre-ordered but haven't gotten anything about beta yet. Sad face! Maybe one of these days :)  I do get pre-release action at some point though.

I just want to know how much it plays like WoW (if you play(ed) WoW)

I'm very curious about that myself Kickback. I got a friend who's helping my decision to play, but im doubtful id be getting into it half as much as i did WoW back in the day, and i was in a scheduled raiding guild for 2 expansions.

I don't play/have never played wow so you'll get a completely objective standpoint. That game never interested me, I'm not too big into medieval fantasy.

I'm curious how many character slots they're gonna allow a beta key though, I'd like to try out as much as I can. Plus, I'd like to make as many slutty female characters as possible.

I never played WoW either. Played some City of Heroes and Champions Online, some Star Trek online too; my experience with TOR testing doesn't really feel like any of it. But honestly it's just hard for me to contrast since I'm not a hueg MMOer.

As for chars, the regular testing right now has like 5 or 6 slots (or maybe more, @work right now so I can't remember), but there really hasn't been any word on how Beta Weekend testers will be though. They could be limited to one character and starter planets only, and possibly seperate server from the regular test as well. I'm kind of curious to hear from a weekend tester what they get, and if the NDA is lifted or different.

if its anything like wow durring initial launch they had restricted certain areas of the map that opened later with content patches (I.E timbermaw hold leading to winterspring, The gate leading to burning steppes etc)

The way the World of Warcraft alpha-testing went was like this:

    - 1 week focus on Night Elves with "Rogue" and "Druid" classes available
    - 1 week focus on Orcs with "Hunter" or "Shaman" classes available

    Repeat this over and over.

They did state today that beta directly correlates to release of the game ... the more beta testers they bring in, the closer they are to release. And considering I read that over 20,000 invites went out for beta-testing for these "weekend" pushes, with more being added each weekend, I think we're pretty close.

    I'd say November release.

Thread had a chance to be cool. WoW talk is killing it though.

Thread still is cool. Thing is, the only successful game to compare it to is WoW. Every other MMORPG has failed to achieve even a portion of the success that you see from WoW ... MAYBE City of Heroes/Villains is the runner-up ... otherwise the rest are all "small-time" games that the developers gave up on save for adding a new dungeon, a new item, etc. (Eve Online, Star Trek Online, Star Wars Galaxies, EverQuest II, Dark Age of Camelot, etc.)

I'll compile up some cool information in the next couple of posts though. Then we can get back on track. I'm just stoked to try this game ... and kill bunnies with lightsabers.

"Deceived" trailer, kind of the "Sith faction video promo" thing.

    STAR WARS

    Awesome.

I'm currently reading Star Wars The Old Republic: Deceived by Paul S. Kemp, which greatly expands upon and tells the aftermath of Darth Malgus's siege of the Jedi Temple as seen in the first released cinematic trailer, Deceived. Good stuff.

Not decided whether to read that yet or not, but i'll definately be hitting up Karpyshyn's Revan novel when it comes out. Theres a Nomi Sunrider book out next year as well IIRC.

Yeah, those trailers are fucking amazing. I'm passing on the game though. Too many games coming out in the following months for me to jump on an MMOR, story or not. Make mine Mass Erect 3 :lol

Yes, I'm totally psyched for the game. I'll be preordering the Collector's Edition in the next few days.

And I'd totally be up to organizing/joining a TFW guild.
