Since it is March and Kingdom Hearts II is rapidly approaching I figured there should be a remembrance type thread; for those of us who are interested to share our favorite moments of the original and COM. I'll start the ball rolling with a few fond memories; first off the first time I played the game was a rental, I played at least thirteen to twenty hours straight and since at the time I didn't have a PS2 Memory Card I left the game on all night because I'd gotten so far. (At least So Far in the context that when you don't have a memory card starting over again can be a real pain.) I'd reached Monstro and wanted to see what happened next; the game was just sooooo adictive and it combined the two best aspects of my hobbies, Walt Disney and RPG gaming. Later on once I finally owned the game and a memory card I recall certain moments that really stuck out; for instance the first time I faced Chernabog in the End of the World, I always loved the Night on Bald Moutain sequence of Fantasia and getting to wail on the demon atop Bald Mountain really struck a chord with me. The first time I saw the intro of secret boss Sephiroth blew me away; and since it was my first time encountering the character it also happened to be the first time I ever heard his kick ass theme. The entire Winnie the Pooh segment of the game was so cool in my book; I mean you didn't have to fight one damn thing, but getting the chance to play as Sora interacting and encountering A. A. Milne's classic characters as portrayed by Disney really brought a smile to my face. The warmth and cutsey factor was a real winning combination; especially seeing as how Sora towered above Pooh and his pals. The theme song for the first game as always has really been one of my all time fav' videogame themes, right up there with Mega Man X5 and the remixed track of the Underworld used in Super Mario Bros. 3. The game is really something I feel has been sorely needed; a chance to see classic Disney characters in a more mature setting, though not too mature that you get stuff like... Well some of the twisted junk you stumble upon while looking for totally unrelated stuff. That's all I have to say for the moment on the original; I'll add my thoughts and fondest memories of KH: COM later, but first I also wanted to expand upon my thread with another idea of mine... If you're like me you're a tad creative, perhaps you enjoy writing fanfiction or short stories or something; in which case perhaps you'd care to share a Kingdom Hearts themed short. I would caution you to keep it limited to no more then five thousand words or less; if you're inclined to share something in this thread, it's a potporri thread that doesn't just have to be game related... I'll get the ball rolling with something I did in about twenty-five minutes, it's sort of a bit of an expansion on one of my favoritest boss intros, which saddly doesn't involve so much inner thoughts concerning the villain. (For one thing I found myself asking the question, Why did Sora, Donald and Goofy fight Chernabog before reaching Ansem? As far as I can tell the answer is one of two things, aside from the real world answer where the game designers probably thought it'd be cool so they slapped it in at the best spot they could think of. Notice how Ansem's Guardian has a striking resemblance to Chernabog? What if he is actually the master/creator of the Guardian and Ansem has imprisoned him at the End of the World area to act as a last line of defense... Or; End of the World could be Chernabog's home and Ansem uses him to his advantage when plotting out the course Sora will most likely take to reach him, or somethin' like that.) He senses it; the power of the Keyblade, the source of all hope and light when in the hands of a pure soul such as he who now wields the mystical weapon. It draws ever closer; he has sensed it even from vast distances between worlds, now the would be hero has ventured forth to this; last bastion of the shadow ones. "Ahhhahahahhhoooie!" A voice cried out echoing amongst the vastness of the void these three would be heroes had fallen into. "Tinkerbell!" A different voice called out and a quick flash lit the area. "That was close." The first voice remarked. "Where are we now?" A third incomprehensible voice asked even as the sleeping one began to stir; his eyes opened first glowing a rich yellow and then he rose fully awakening in the process. "Gawrsh." The gangly looking dog creature exclaimed brandishing a shield. "Wack." The duck being said simultaneously producing a wizards staff. "Oh wow." The human gasped as it almost seemed an ominous musc began to play softly emanating form the nether. "Rahhhhhhhh!" The former sleeping one bellowed erecting a mystical shield around the void so the Keyblade could not escape from his desire to destroy it. "Looks like we gotta fight." The dog creature said; the human nodded and produced the coveted weapon, the former sleeping one's eyes narrowed and the battle began... Fellow KH Fanatics; share, discuss, use this thread as it was meant to be and soon perhaps we shall be sharing memories of KH II.
Thirty-Five views and no one else cares to jump in with their fond memories??? I guess I'm the only one who cared enough to create a thread like this and want to use it... Oh well. I can't really think of what I enjoyed most about KH COM, aside from the fact that it was really rather inovative with the card battling system and it makes me want real world versions of the KH cards to collect. (At least it wouldn't be so friggen hard to snag a Barrel Spider Enemy card from a CGG or like-minded Collectible Card set.) The graphics stood out too; the GBA really held it's own with the new stuff and the CGI opening and ending scenes and the like. As far as KH II goes; I am so stoked the closer we get to it, damn man I can't wait to play the PotC level... That and I'm seriously going to just enjoy having new worlds and a new story to explore instead of the same old slowly growing bored with KH I stuff. (Although I still haven't achieved a Shiitake or Matsuke rank from the Rare Truffles, talk about your difficult challenges.)
I'm a huge KH fan. I'm really stoked about the next game and can't wait I've been finding out infromation for this game since KH 1 ended
One of my most favourite games ever. I mean, there's just something magical about it, that certain X-Factor that Zelda and God of War had as well, something that TRUELY makes it a videogame. And then there was the whole Final Fantasy/Disney thing, and ESPECIALLY the latter, that made it truely special. I considered Disney as a thing of a past until I came across this game, and I remembered why I was such a big fan of Disney, why I could lose myself in Disney's tales...It's one of the reasons why I simply can't wait for Kingdom Hearts 2. I want to experience that magic again. ...Alright, and I can't wait to kick some Hydra butt.
Bumping this thread because it's like five days to launch date, figured more people might like to contribute their fond memories of the original or perhaps share what they look forward to in the sequel... Personally I can't wait to play the PotC stage or for that matter Beauty and the Beast... You know what I'd like to see if they make a KH III... THE HAUNTED MANSION!!! I mean come on; how could you not want to hear Sora walking up to the good ol' HM and hear that killer opening theme playing as shadows dance all around. Better still it'd be kind of funny to see a classic film inserted in, for instance Escape to Witch Mountain, The Apple Dumpling Gang or even The Love Bug for a racing stage. (And I don't mean the Lindsey Lohan remake either.)
I read when you beat KHII there is a secret movie at the end(like in the first game) thats a preview for part III.
I've been playing KH on Expert Mode just to re-familiarize myself with the story. Which is a good thing, since I forgot that Ursula and Jafar didn't actually die, explaining why they can come back for the sequel. I'm almost done with the actual story (just moments away from the fight with Chernabog). I'm going to beat Ansem, then go back and finish the side stuff like the Ultima Weapon (which I never got on Normal), the Optional Bosses, and the Hades Cup (I'm saving that because I want to see all three different The End pictures). But dear God, Sephiroth is going to be a major bitch to defeat this time. I also picked up Chain of Memories a few days ago. After I finish the first game, I'll play through this before I start KH2. I'm really excited about the new worlds in KH2, and I love the fact that Sora, Donald, and Goofy have to blend in with the locals of more worlds than before. I really wish there would be a world based on The Hunchback of Notre Dame. Aside from it being one of my favorite Disney movies, I think its tone would really fit in the series. And Scrapper, I think the Haunted Mansion could make an AWESOME world. Granted, the horror theme would be a little close to Halloween Town, but it would probably have a different feel.
I remember playing KH and getting to fight Ursula. I spent a week fighting her and for some reason just couldnt get past her. Thats when I stopped playing. 6 months later I started over from scratch, when I got to Ursula again I blew right through her. (dont know what happened that first time). Glad I got back to it and made it past her cause the rest of the game rocked! COM was cool also, so I cant wait to see where this next one takes us!
i got it around thanksgiving on the year it came out. all i can remember is feeling really fat while i killed cerberus and cloud.
Sephiroth a bitch? Guess again; I only had to refight him about four times and I was only at level 87 in the Expert Mode when I beat him again. As opposed to level 100 on Normal Mode... But then again I'd already synthesized Ultima Weapon, once you have that bad boy you can take down long life meters faster in my opinion... I only had Sephiroth, Kurt Zisa and Ansem to redefeat in order to see the final ending screen shot available and what happens? I beat Sephiroth in under half an hour to forty minutes; I slammed Kurt Zisa in less then twenty-five minutes or so and I blammed Ansem in all his forms leveling up to at least 94 or 95 for Sora in the process and managed to finish off all my goals in under an hour and a half. That ultima weapon is really great and the strength factor alone makes up for all the toils and tribulations you face in order to make it. There is only one thing I truly have no accomplished in either Normal or Expert modes; and that's to claim the ruddy Shittake or Matsuke rank from the Rare Truffle, but I don't care one iota about that to be honest... I've taken down all the extra bosses and worlds, I've conquered Ansem and I managed to see all the endding screen shots, which for me is enough... I am now officialy ready to deal with KH II, so I say; BRING IT ON! Ursula AND Jafar didn't actually die???? I remember Jafar's lamp being knocked away by Genie in one of the cut scenes ALA the movie moment, but I don't remember Ursula's surviving... Maybe I should go back to my second Normal mode quest where I'm at Agrabah and then get to Atlantica again so I can double check that... I mean I could swear she puffs out just like Maleficent or Ansem do. Then again no one really dies in the game eccept for the Heartless bosses if you think about it; even Riku is alive in the end... Well there's Clayton, but that's part of the Tarzan movie and so couldn't be ignored. Anyway... I am stoked, four more days to launch date and today's going to be a great day because it's the 100TH episode of the New animated TMNT show. So I won't be sitting around plagued with pent up frustrations that I haven't got my new KH fix yet.
KH was so badass and involving and I was a bit skeptical before playing it. Even liked KH Chain of Memories alot for the GBA , both for the action and story. My most memorable moment from KH was "Damn I hate you Sephiroth!!!" 100 tries and a busted controller later, finally beat his ass. Heard the combat in KH2 would make Kratos from God Of War proud.
