My votes for parks and rec. Sure, the office had more memorable lines and characters, but parks and rec maintained it's humour and sub plots, so overall parks and rec was the better, more well preserved show.
Parks and Rec was good, up until that God awful final season. Office had its moments early on, but it too suffered from flailing sitcom syndrome.
Actually yeah, the final season of parks and rec was really weird with it's goofy looking holographic phones and TV's, but I definitely don't think it was God-awful.
I loved Parks and Rec, so my vote goes to that show. The office, while some moment that had me dying from laughter, has so many moments that make me uncomfortable. Michael Scott was, Albert sometimes funny, really awkward most of the time.
It was purposefully uncomfortable, and I think that elevated it's relatibility, which was a large part in what made the office a good, likable show. But that was before it went past it's expiration date...
I’d say The Office is better as an overall show even if the later seasons took a slight dip in quality. However, Ron Swanson is my favorite character to watch from either show.
The Office was/is far superior. Parks was good for sure, but The Office was better; better stories, better acting, better comedy.
Parks and Rec is better. It’s consistently a better show. The major cast and fan favorites were there the whole time. No character had crazy random changes to their personalities. I think it had a good amount of seasons didn’t over stay it’s welcome. The Office lost its identity after Micheal Scott left. The show turned into a weird cartoony sitcom where characters like Andy who was smart and well educated just a strange dude turned into a dumb incapable boss. Jim and Pam who were the highlight of early seasons became boring and added two affair plots to try and make them interesting again.
Tough call. Both good shows in their prime. Andy was never smart and well educated. He went to a good school. That is in no way the same thing. That's pretty much exactly how I'd sum it up. Without Ron in P&R, this would be the easiest choice of all-time.
Once the American version of The Office stopped just (poorly) recreating the original UK episodes and found its own way, it became a FAR better show almost immediately. That's also when Michael Scott went from being a sort of off-putting creep character in S1 to the more hapless & harmless buffoon we all came to love. It definitely was a great show worthy of its success. BUT... I think Parks & Rec was more consistently enjoyable and better written overall. The Ron Swanson character alone is enough to put it heads & shoulders above most shows of similar ilk, but once you add in Leslie, April and even Chris, it's no contest imo. My missus works for a neighboring municipality, so this show also hits WAY closer to home for us in that regard which of course makes it far funnier & relatable by extension. But again, Ron Swanson... I hope he goes down in history as one of THE single best written & portrayed characters ever created anywhere.
I personally gotta go with Parks. The Office is good but the amount of worship it gets makes me get annoyed by the show.
Well, with the worship building up in this thread, maybe you'll decide to be sick of Parks soon, too. I will agree with others here that Parks & Rec was more consistent. Office was really only great from seasons 2-5, with only occasional scattered greatness afterward. I just don't think Parks' dependible goodness reaches the Office at its best, except in Ron compilation videos.
I can't say one is better than the other, I like them both. Pam and Jim are kinda assholes in hindsight. Jim getting demolished by Dwight with snowballs was the best. Ron Swanson is probably my favorite fictional TV character since Hank Hill.
