I really wish the Ikea Nornas was still available.

I've been considering getting one of the wide version of the Ikea Fabrikor. But the metal frame around the glass front door blocks a lot of the view. Does anyone know if there is a way to put other doors on it that are just a solid piece of glass similar to the Detolf?

The Billy line at Ikea now has a aluminum-framed glass door, which achieves some of the look you're looking for, however, the sides and back are still wooden/wood-like panels.

Time to resurrect the thread a month later... :p

Has anyone tried using the Brimnes cabinet with doors (basically a half sized version of the large Besta storage combo with double glass doors and one size up from the single version with glass)?

BRIMNES Cabinet with doors - glass/white - IKEA

Edit: Quoted in CND finds as I'm in YVR.

I have two Detolfs (Birch Colored) and will need some more display shelves once I reshuffle my all hobby collection (not going for the brown/black look as I might repaint the white to birch/pine colour).

Edit #2: Seen it done. Napalm has it done back in Sept. 1st, 2016.

I'm returning to Ireland and will be back to using my Ekby Mossby silver shelves. @Dean ML, you owe us some shots when you get yours done!

Although I've now got a new idea for some interesting shelving...

Managed to poke around the Ikea website here in Canada and saw this: FÄRGSTARK Glass-door cabinet - IKEA ($100 CDN)

For the members down in the States:
    FÄRGSTARK Glass-door cabinet - IKEA ($70 USD)

Not quite like the Nornas, however it has a longer upright leg length before the actual display case is placed.

Note: I really don't like the x-frame in which the actual unit sits on as it looks quite unstable. Since I'm picking up another 1/6th figure, I'm going to an Ikea store nearby see the actual set up, and see if I can change the legs if I do decided to pick it up.

Also looks like alot of wasted space with that x-cross brace set up. Screenshot_2018-11-24-00-59-20.png

And it's not that earthquake friendly if anyone is located near the San Andreas fault line if and when the Big One hits as the upper part of the display case will be the first to sway around due to a higher point of gravity (that's why heavy things should be bolted against the wall for safety reasons and with the smaller children around if and when they start bumping into things).

Like I said, I'm going to take a look at the unit and see if the mods could be made to get rid of the x-frame and put the smaller legs on.

Edit: I actually looked at the Assembly PDF manual and the X-frame is an option. Looks like my plan to have the smaller legs put on does work although not at a corner as the instruction mentioned.

I have one of these...a bit larger and a lot less seismically vulnerable than the Detolf. I can't remember what it's called...came from IKEA...probably the Krang or the Rublemacht or something...Lol. The lights are LED strips mounted in custom 3D printed brackets that slide on to the front edges of the glass shelves.

EDIT: IKEA calls it the KLINGSBO.

I’ve been working on my shelving unit this week. I’m hoping I can finish it this weekend. I picked up some glass shelves on kijiji for really cheap. I’m going to try and make shelves utilizing the different lengths of glass in the future but for now I’m building this massive unit for my MP collection.

I love how you have holes for three downlights. I have not seen that in a cabinet before. Please keep us posted on the finished product!

@fschuler - At least you guys in the States still have the Klingsbo as it's been discontinued up here in Canada (both the upright and the curio versions).

There's another shelf if anyone is still willing to try options at $200 USD for a Milsbo unit?
    MILSBO Glass-door cabinet - white - IKEA

Up in Canada we get majorly hosed to the max at $230 CND.
    MILSBO Glass-door cabinet - white - IKEA

Note: Not too budget friendly either. :banghead:

Edit: @OMEGAPRIME1983 - Haven't looked through the ModuCases, but thanks for giving that secondary option.

Website for those interested - ModuCase

Stackable yes, not cheap either; however, it gives you the units available should you want to expand (literally triple+ the price of a 1/6th figure).

That MILSBO is nice...and it is a slightly better value on a $/square inches basis compared to the KLINGSBO. And those Moducase products are pretty slick...pricey, though...

So I managed to see both the Fargstark and the Milsbo in person at Ikea in Coquitlam, B.C.

The Fargstark is like a mini detolf at 75% of its height when you take out the x-frame, Double Dutch front glass doors and suitable for TY Beenie Babies, S.H. Figuarts, Deluxes, etc (if you don't stuff it like sardines and have a small collection at this moment). Drawback is that there is only three display shelves and good for those on a tight budget.
    20181125_150501.jpg
Milsbo is like a double detolf with a metal frame enclosure, you get more display room length wise (widthwise the same dimensions), heightwise a bit taller and Double Dutch Glass doors on a separate metal frame.
    20181125_150551.jpg
If your not picky about the colour and have fair amount of funds to spend on a display case, then get the Milsbo. The price will drop next year (around July/August/September I think) if your not in the rush to get it.

Edit: Added pictures (might be too big as I cropped it from my phone. If the pics are too large, then can the moderators change it to a smaller size?)
