Yeah. At this point I'll only buy certain X-Men and Spider-Man characters for the current prices. They've priced me out on everybody else.

It’s the same sad situation in my country too with less than 5 comic book stores left. Dang it. My kids are not going to experience what we as kids experience. Holding an actually comic book and reading it…the feeling is different from reading it online.

Non-Spoiler for latest Xmen97 ep - X-Factor and Iceman are all in the intro and a photo, so they all have designed 3D models created for the show. It adds to the possibility we might see some of them show up in the new X-Men line.

Show is traditional animation, not 3d animation

Nah it's 3D but rendered to look more 2D.

Hasbro are using the 3D assets from the studio to do their face sculpts.

Nah, it's traditional animation as confirmed by the show's supervising producer, Jake Castorena.

Where has it been confirmed that Hasbro is using 3d assets from this show for their head sculpts? It hasn't as far as I'm aware, and it'd be especially difficult since the show is 2d animation.

To be fair, I do remember Dwight mentioning on the SDCC 23' panel for the first X-Men 97' wave that they were using the 3D models from the show to get the accuracy of the sculpts.
Timed at around 13:30 minutes in the video

On the other hand, there's is a way this could've been animated in hand drawn in 2D, but at the same time using 3D assets. The show show has a near perfect level of consistency with character models and scale that definitely makes me think a lot of 3D assets are being used to reference the animation. Wouldn't be surprised if they did pre-vis in 3D for a lot of sequences, especially the action scenes. Studio Mir has definitely done this to fantastic results. The director has mention the use 3D for the sentinels to keep scale consistent. Tracking down to find the one interview where he mentioned it out of the many I saw 2 weeks ago. Will edit post when I find it.

Anyone know a place that still has all the Ch’od figures in-stock for retail?

Amazon has Kid Omega at retail, looks like you may be paying the late tax on Fang.

Has to be a Gladiator situation with Fang having Ch'od's head. I couldn't give Fang away after buying him at a discount last year. It seems crazy to me that he's going for $10 over retail on Amazon.

Definitely possible that there are some 3d assets and some hybrid animation, but the bulk of the show is 2d hand drawn. Jeremy Polgar (head of the in house animation team for the show) said on X/Twitter that the show is 99% traditional animation, so that's at least 2 of the show's higher up that have said the show is predominantly 2d animation. Also, in regards to that video, Dwight references digital files from the show, not 3d models. All of the artwork for the show would be stored digitally, regardless of it was 2d or 3d, so I'd hardly say that's any sort of definitive proof that the show is 3d animation.

Yes you have at least the 3D model used for the ending of the episodes

Yeah. I was just hoping that someone would have the whole wave up for $150 somewhere, but it seems like everything went on clearance and vanished.

Definitely amazing results if they can achieve 99% of the final result in just 2D. Would definitely love to see a behind the scenes on how they achieved those results. That one percent does leave room for hybrid animation and other methods.

This is just my own thinking, but I also wonder if there’s a bit of semantics used when saying 100% or 99% of the animation is hand drawn. Could they be referring to the final animation or the whole pre productions aspect as well. Again, hope they do a behind the scenes on it. I’m more intrigued now.

Dwight does say digital files. It does make me personally lean towards 3D files (from the industry I work on) than character sheets or anything like that, but digital files were his words and I’m not gonna imply more.

I’ll leave it at that since it doesn’t matter to me so much wether they use 2D, 3D or a hybrid. The results are fantastic and today I learned Studio Mir handles the animations which makes me happy.

Back to the legends talk, who do you guys want see in a wave 3?

Oh yea, Studio Mir has worked on several of my favorite shows

As for wave 3, I'm hoping for Morph, Sunspot, Beast, Emma Frost, Jubilee and Psylocke with a deluxe Archangel

Well we know it will be 6 characters for Wave 3. Four heroes, as many as 5, and 1 villain, as many as 2.

Villain will probably be Mr. Sinister. Heroes will probably be Beast, Jubilee, Sunspot, and Morph. I have no idea who'd that additional individual would be, but, because his appearances will span three episodes and just in case not to spoil it for those who have not caught up, I'd guess...

Nice tease there. Though classic is so broad that it really doesn't narrow it down much from the leaks. :lol
