Cable is available in that suit in the Amazing Yamaguchi line. Not sure if it's still in the market.
Yes. They did a version of Cable that came with his psimitar in the 4" line so I assume we'll get one when they do a version of Cable that wielded it.
Don't think it's available at retail anymore unless it's getting a reissue and even then AY figures are insanely expensive and probably more than most people are going to be cool with paying. I've got Deku and Todoroki from MHA and those guys were around $85 each.
Plus, that's not exactly the costume being referenced. It's a similar modern costume while the one we're talking about is from the late 90s/early 2000s.
Came across the King in Black set and bought it. Like most Legends multipacks last year, I do think it’s overpriced. If you can grab it for $60 or close, I think that’s more reasonable.
Knull is pinless and the red symbol on his torso armor is raised with a different finish than the rest of the armor. The head and neck are on ball joints that move well enough that they don’t need hinges. Butterfly joints and shin swivels(or above ankle swivels) are the only other joints I wish this had. The skirt doesn’t hinder hip movement as much as I thought it would. Would’ve been cool if the symbiote effects were molded separately from the sword.
Venom is a big reason I got this set. I wasn’t planning on using the wings much and they are a tad heavy for it. Good thing they’re made out of a harder plastic that doesn’t feel prone to bending. The fit into Venom’s upper back is tight so I didn’t attach the wings all the way. Wasn’t sure how difficult it would be to take them back out. The wings are jointed in the middle and can detach there. The holes in Venom’s back for the wings weren’t too obtrusive to me. Some symbiote effects would’ve been cool to plug into the back when the wings aren’t used.
Venom itself is a good use of the movie mold with a new comic head. Normally I’m not into movie molds reused for comic figures but this works as a modern comic Venom. The poseability is great, toe joints and shin swivels could’ve helped(above ankle swivels embedded within the lower leg preferably as that wouldn’t break the sculpt as much). It benefits from having a diaphragm joint instead of a waist swivel and having a deep ab crunch. For a big figure, this figure poses very well(I don’t have the Venom movie figure that came out a few years ago so this is my 1st time handling the mold). Of all the Legends Venom figures I have, this is the most poseable one.
I thought the 2016 Venom was decent for an early McFarlane Venom. I’m a big fan of the monster Venom released a few years back as a deluxe(was a BAF with different deco before that). This new one poses better than both and is pretty much my modern Venom, I like the sculpted details from the movie mold, they lend itself well to a Venom figure in general.
Would love to see a very similar buck based on this movie Venom buck used for a new Sabretooth. It’s about time we could get a Sabretooth that could pose like this and the build is just right for an early 90’s/modern version. I’d also be down for a cartoon based deluxe that’s bigger with 12,342 abdominal muscles
That Sersi will probably be her black and red 90's look, right? I'm totally down for getting, I like that look. And if Black Knight is coming with her, it will most likely be his leather jacket and energy sword look, which I also like and will be pleased to get.
It is, but it’s very expensive. You could see if they might re-issue it, but you may as well wait for an ML. There needs to be an update for this outfit hopefully in the near future. The Yamaguchi figure scales okay with ML, though.
I think that's a likely guess that it'll be their 90s versions. Otherwise I can't imagine why Hasbro would put them in a two-pack together.
Out for a spin
Unfortunately, the Dani they released isn't in the classic New Mutants outfit. It's more of a modern re-imagining of that outfit. I'm not sure Sam ever wore the modern version.
Honestly I’d rather they wait until they make an updated female teen body before tackling teams like new mutants, academy x, (blanking on other teen x men) and other teen teams. We really need a new female teen body with double jointed elbows and leg hip articulation that is not so hindered.
I think the af spider-man body is the unofficial updated teen boy mold as seen with franklin and Quentin quire. New mutants cannonball, cypher and sunspot could definitely use that mold. We just need updated teen girl body mold
Maybe the new Spider Gwen body?
You mean the Across the Spider-Verse one? That figure is extremely stylized, no way it'll be used as a standard comic body. I'm sure we'll get one eventually though. I'd like it to be about as tall as the AF buck and with double elbows and butterfly joints. The old teenage figures never really worked for me, they were both really limited in range and just a little too small, they seemed more like an older child body, maybe 12-14, teenagers aren't always that much smaller than adults, especially when you get to 16-18 year olds. The MCU Spider-Man bucks have that same issue, I'm still hoping for a better Homecoming buck as well.
It is? It doesn't really look all that stylized to me
Yeah, she's a little stylized. But then, so are comic books. The legs/ankles are little too thin and long, but with new legs, I don't see why that couldn't work for a standard female.
But who knows? Maybe the torso is too long also. We'll know for sure when we get some comparisons.
Huh... I just realized she doesn't have thwiping hands! WTF Hasbro!? Like, no Spider figure should ever be without thwiping hands.
Yeah I wouldn’t say she’s too stylized (especially when compared to the others in the wave like spider punk and 2099) but when you compare it the the current teen girl buck it becomes more evident. (skinny ankles, mono thickness skinny arms, slightly broader shoulder etc) I don’t have much of an issue with the current teen girl body proportions, mostly just with the articulation. They could tweak that spider gwen mold but I think it would just be better if they started from scratch (or build off the already existing teen girl body)
Fair point, fair point. Let me just put it this way: I want a bunch of New Mutant Heads and a bunch of New Mutant bodies, in whatever combination Marvel and Hasbro decide on. I'm okay cheating on costumes a little bit, and I'll buy all of them again if they do a younger release in the classic outfits.
I really hope they do the team either in the style of the 275 squad. It should be easier to get default-ish uniforms to expand teams with simple head swaps.
Agreed. Wouldn’t be surprised if they’re probably saving those for a box set or “deluxe” package.
I mean, not compared to the others in the wave, but she's a brand new mold and seems to be too tall and thin for a comic figure.
Yeah, comic books are stylized but Hasbro tends to skew at least a little more realistic in proportions for the comic figures. They're super muscular and sometimes have some odd choices when it comes to the articulation and muscle schemes, but they're never that thin.
I have this set but still haven’t opened it. Mainly got it for Knull bc I already have the movie Venom, but a comic one is welcomed. I bought AnthonysCustoms comic Venom feet to complete the look, but still waiting on those bc of how many orders he received. I think the movie body is the best mold for the character period, it’s highly articulated as you said, but it’s also a superb sculpt. I should open the set this weekend to enjoy Knull lol
I opened up Dark Phoenix and Avalanche yesterday. Not really sure how I feel about Avalanche having pupils, but it is nice to at least have an Avalanche figure in my collection. I do feel that he isn't wide enough, though. He's cool for what he is and the paint apps are nicely done.
As for Dark Phoenix, aside from the yellow boot thingy being shorter on the right side than the left side, she is really nice. Initially, I had planned to put the old Dark Phoenix head on her, but the new head is exceptional. I love the way they painted the hair along with the face. I do prefer the yellow eyes on the other one. Nevertheless, the pinless legs and arms, along with the double jointed arms, and the new sash make it a superior figure overall. I will miss the dark wash shading the old one had.
