Wonder Woman, Flash, aquaman and Shazam were all Geoff John’s movies not Snyder from that brief period when he was in charge. Aquaman, Flash and Shazam are all based on stories he wrote in the comics.
Reads further..hears more rumors.....Tom King is working on this....interest wains further. James Gunn's DCU Slate Features Tom King As One Of The Chief Architects, A Massive Red Flag For Any DC Fan DCU's Supergirl Movie Will Be Based on Tom King’s Woman of Tomorrow Comics Chapter 1: Everything We Know About the Future of the DC Universe Tom King stories often are pretty poor and against character type.
Authority is a monkey paw movie for me. I love the Ellis run that kicks the book off, but past him I don’t think I’ve ever seen a writer really “get” that team. And I don’t think they work in a universe with Superman or Batman. Authority works when they’re the most powerful team on the planet. I have a lot of concerns about them as part of a wider DCU.
He’s earned at least a few movie tickets from me thanks to Guardians of the Galaxy. I don’t know if WB will feel the same.
Because it really wouldn't work as part of a different universe. This version of Batman really feels more like they could build a whole universe around just him, and follow his development over the years. Wouldn't really work as part of a bigger picture. I honestly think it speaks to the merit of The Batman when it can just stand as its own pillar of DC.
He had me at GotG. He gave me pause at GotG2. He lost me at Suicide Squad. GotG must have been a fluke.
Totally get what you mean. It'll be interesting to see how they get them to "fit." Nonetheless, I think it's exciting that a team like The Authority is even getting the chance to have a film alongside Superman and Batman.
I know I’m excited, just wondering how much general appeal there will be? General Audiences just want the Trinity.
That explains that. They were the only movies in the DCU that worked. And again if they’d failed outright it probably would have been better. This always happens with Batman. After the Nolan Batman people asked why they didn’t just use Christian Bale to start the Synderverse. The eternal problem is that the original DC comics weren’t meant to be a shared universe and Batman has always been tough to work out as part of a shared universe. His books involve plots that would end in 30 seconds if he called the JLA in. He’s challenged by foes that would be d-list threats against any other member of the JLA. And then when he’s out in the universe he’s a super prepared Demi-god. It makes integrating Batman movies into a larger universe problematic. If you want a Batman that will be part of a wider cinematic universe you have to build him that way out of the gate. You can’t really backfill in a whole universe on a Batman film. If you told me there was a stand-alone Authority movie, possibly even as a sequel to a Stormwatch movie and being filmed along side a Planetary limited series, I’d be stoked. Stormwatch/Planetary/Authority is a fascinating parable on power and how you use it and how you change the world or fail to do so. But they’ve been tough to do when they’re part of a bigger cinematic universe. It could work if you look towards how Morrison incorporated the Ultramarine Corps in JLA. There’s a template there for how a super powered team that’s decided to be hands on can work in a universe with the JLA.
I was looking forward to being hype with everyone and speculating but I was met with skepticisms and negativity. Never mind I guess lol.
If they had mentioned other stories people might have been more interested. If they said someone like Paul Dini, Chuck Dixon, Greg Rucka,Ed Brubaker or one of those guys was helping write the plot people would have been excited. They picked Tom King who is not a good writer on most classic superheroes. He’s almost as bad as Bendis and loves to subvert characters in ways that will annoy their fans. They also picked the Robin many people have become sick of. Who every 3 years is fighting his father to the death, and got Alfred killed because he couldn’t follow orders and tried to defeat Bane himself. Who was kicked off the Teen Titans when they found out he created his own private prison and was torturing their rouges gallery down there. Who promised not to kill and does so anyway so many times now it’s becoming a running joke. when your Robin makes Batman look like a kind Clark Kent type in comparison you know they have no idea what to do with him. Even his creator tried killing him off cause he had no idea what to do after the end of his storyline and it’s been downhill ever since
Yeah, Damian is almost as over-saturated as the Bat himself. It wouldn't be so bad if writers could just move his character forward instead of constantly resetting him, but, to be fair, that's a problem with a lot of characters in comics. Sometimes it's editorial being unwilling to let characters grow and change (usually for some stupid reason like wanting to "keep them relatable"), or it's just because writers have no idea what else to do with a character so they just stagnate (Damian). I guess it's a little bit of both of those things for Damian.
Because of Tom King. "So she's a much harsher and more fucked up Supergirl than we've been used to this far.” Oh, boy, more 2edgy4u nonsense. Just what I don't want.
Well, the run that version of Supergirl is based on is pretty universally loved so.. we'll see how it turns out.
