Even though Age of Extinction are going probably to be the most grossing movie of this year, could all the hate and negative reviews ruined the franchises in the long term?

Transformers Fandom.... More than meets a functioning brain...... Transformers Fandom...... Hide Behind the "Opinions" card!...... Fanboys wage the battle to argue over a........ Redundant Toy Franchise.

This is the opening theme whenever pretentious fanboys and haters fight over fiction.

More than likely not, but I've seen some people say that Transformers is a terrible franchise based off the movies. That pissed me off exponentially.

The only hurt is from butthurt TF fans who can't accept other peoples opinions really. I went and watched it with a couple of the local fans and they ended up hating it and I was the only one who thought it was decent, haha

Who cares about the negative reviews? If you love the films, then cool, don't let anyone ruin it for you. Hate the films? Cool, just respect bayfans and don't insult anyone. You're neutral? Cool, that's alright.

Opinions.....everyone has one, and everyone will either love it or hate it.

Domestically it could help cut into the domestic take for Transformers 5. The domestic box office has been going down since people got upset about Revenge of the Fallen so without more positive out of the movie I'm taking an educated guess that the trend of lower domestic box office will continue.

But the Chinese market and other markets where the film franchise is doing better really don't follow the buzz outside of the US so negative views in the US will not hurt the box office outside of the US.

Negative reviews don't stop movies from being made...

Batman & Robin was still made after Batman Forever.

    Yep, I went there.

Apologies if I've misunderstood your point- it's just that if you wish to avoid people with strong opinions about Transformers who aren't emotionally invested in how the franchise is perceived, a Transformers fan site isn't the place to go.

Edit: To the OP- I doubt it will. However, I do think TF5 will need to be quite a bit better (or shorter) for TF6 to be profitable.

Some people just don't care my friend. It's their opinion, and that opinion will never leave the dark side unfortunately. Unless it's G1 of course!

I highly doubt the franchise will stop any time soon, decent TF fans who love the movies will keep it strong!

I think the problem where the AoE toyline is worryingly under-performing will do more damage to the films than any bad press. The movies may make a lot of money, but the toys are obviously Hasbro's main bread-and-butter and if the line fails, Hasbro will need to try a different approach as the movies will no longer be as profitable overall.

It's possible that shorter and better might go hand in hand. I kind of wonder what the reception to Transformers 4 would have been like if it had kept the good bits but trimmed down to a lean mean run time of under 2 hours.

Personal opinion is AOE would've been the best TF movie had it been shorter and more to the point.

The one aspect I hope Paramount takes the reins on with TF5 is the running time. There was absolutely no reason why AOE had to be 2:45, and it has definitely hurt the earnings of the movie.

A cut that was 30 min shorter would have given most theaters one additional showing per screen per day. I know people that wanted to see it, but didn't because the running time was just too long. And I firmly believe the reviews would not have been as harsh had the movie been shorter.

This. The movies themselves have already proven negativity-proof - the toys they're supposed to be shilling, not so much (Personally, I haven't been interested in really ANY of the AoE mainline stuff, as it turns out - the Construct-Bots Dino Riders subline is all I've bought so far).
