I think people are reading too much into things; While Kreger did a better of writing than Orci and Kurtzman, I think a nice, fresh reboot should also include some really good writers.

If Sentinel Prime were a communist, he likely wouldn't buy into the hierarchical nature of Cybertronian society under the aristocracy/nobility/whatever upper echelon the Primes form of the Primes. He seemed pretty dead-set on the belief that by right of his station, he was better and more fit to rule than pretty much everyone else.

Sentinel is a Imperalist/Nationalist, Megatron is a communist and Optimus is democratic.

Let's just leave it at that. I honestly don't want the political spectrum to interfear with my Transformers.

Sentinel, in no way, screamed "Socialist" or even anything "left wing". I'm sure a lot of the left end of the spectrum is against exploiting the less-fortunate. If anything, he's King George and Optimus is General Washington.

I am telling you as a person living in a country, that built socialism nearly a century . Maybe we have not built a socialist country, but we were able to build socialism in us.
TRUE socialists (not dictators!) never was greedy and tyrannical. Yes, we blindly love our homeland. But we love more to give a hand to the weak, defend him, care about him. We would never afford himself to crush a paltry neighbor. And we never would have remained indifferent, if someone else would try to make it.
He is not a socialist. He isn't like a tragically killed the fighter, the lover of his country. Power and glory blinded him. Guys, did you think, for who was he going to restore Cybertron? For the Autobots, which he would killed all???

In general, there is no policy.
In my opinion the film says just that happiness isn't a freedom.
Happiness is to depend on someone you love... Autobots chose Earth instead freedom, is not they?
