Who did you buy through? I genuinely doubt there are bootlegs of series 17. Factory goofs, yes, probably but KOs this quick seems unlikely.

Went into my local ToysRUs yesterday. $20 Canadian isn't a bad price for this set! The aisle looks full, until you notice that it's mostly single-facings of the big Pokemon and Hot Wheels sets.
The only translucent figure I own (infinite blind bag chief) barely stays together. I like the translucent peices, but I think the smaller joints should be made with opaque plastic
I haven't had any issues with the translucent figures outside the typical QC problems that randomly hit Mega stuff. That said, I can live without them. Though the newest clear Jackal sniper does make sense being "invisible". The rest, I just dismiss them as hologram.
What scale cars are you using? They look a little big, but I'm sure if you got the right scale, the figures would never fit in them. It's the age old action figure /diecast catch-22.
I use 124 scale vehicles because mega figures are the same size as human alliance figures that are 124 scale cars. Yeah not having your toys work well together is a pain. It's funny that mega figures look too big next to 124 but when you put them next to mega vehicles they also look too small.
Well, he recently put up a comparison video. The first batch he got are very much bootlegs. The reason I want them cast in opaque plastic is because of the hands. They usually all come with something to hold and thin + translucent + weapon/accessory = not going to end well. Can't even have my Night King or Series 10 Cortan hold stuff because their hands are on the verge of snapping.
Mega figures are only about 1:32 height-wise, but they're 1:26-1:28 width-wise... i.e. they're short and stocky. I would think 1:24 would be absolutely massive next to Mega figures. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
They are and they do it's more of a function over aesthetics thing. Again I blame HA. I really enjoy that play pattern. Having transformers that actually turn into vehicles that little figures can get inside of. Diclone did it and that's where they came from. Anyway That led to me collecting tf alternators which are also 124 scale. I put Jack Sparrow into Battle ravage and the rest was history. I think we had this conversation elsewhere as well. On your GI Joe thread. The only happy medium I've been able to find is the McFarland vehicles from The walking Dead series. The Woodbury assault vehicle and Dale's RV work pretty well. But they are brick-based.
