Very good article. I hadn't thought about how ineffective Megatron had been throughout most of the IDW continuity and how much I have actually enjoyed Megatron as a character, not just as "the bad guy" during MTMTE Season 2. I also hadn't thought, or now worried, about the fate of Megatron's wonderfully crafted humanity and character when James Roberts qui... When he sto... I can't write it. I don't want to think about James ever leaving Transformers comics.

Megatron's arc is definitely the major highlight of IDW.

I agree, the moment he goes back to villainy again because classic status quo, it'll be a sad day.

Great article. Really shows how far Megatron has come as a character and how his current IDW incarnation is the most compelling version of the character to date.

I can't even get into any of the current neo-G1 stuff, like mobile games, anything where Megatron is stock cackling villain. It's beyond boring and dull.

Beast Wars Megatron and Animated Megatron were compelling, fascinating, ruthless, *effective*. G1 Megatron, for thirty years, is basically just a useless failure. Even into RID, I was just so beyond FATIGUED when Megatron turned out to have a master plan to take out the fledgling new society on Cybertron and take over once more. Zzzzzzzzzzzz.

I mean, Roberts still wrote a decent political robot book, and I like the first season of xRID quite a bit. Wheeljack motherfuckers. But Megatron was a black hole of interest for me.

I really like this Megatron a lot more than the other incarnations because I feel that as a comic book character he got more time for development. Sure TF: Prime had something going on,
but then they shoe-horned the face-heel-turn in the made-for-TV movie with no proper development. It would have been better if he had stayed dead.

IDW Megatron on the other hand had 2006-2011(2?) to be an absolute monster of a villain that the character has never reached beofore, even back in the 80's comic and TFP. Then Dark Cybertron kicked in and everything featuring Megatron and any present Decepticons are writing their wrongs in trial as Megatron seeks redemption by finding the Knights of Cybertron to clear his name, before the trial continues for the final judgement.
After the events of Dying of the Light, Megatron still has ways to go before his conscious becomes clear, but now with Tarn dead and Terminus at his side, that path seems all the more shorter.

It's an interesting read, for sure.

Not sure I agree with the author, but it is definitely worth going over.

Great article. Loved lots of little quips and snarky comments. Good insight.

As I said before, I have less than zero interest in stock g1 Megatron in any media now.

Keep your hopes up that IDW will buck the trend of maintaining comics status quo and keep Megs' characterization. No backpedals here; I believe IDW won't let happen to Megatron what Marvel allowed writers to do to Magneto, according to the article. Unless of course, Hasbro prescribes a change.
