So I guess I jinxed myself yesterday when I posted my TRU MP OP qc issues in the feedback thread. I posted how my Optimus among the usual issues others have that mine has cloudy chrome on the bumper... then this evening I noticed two more issues. One smokestack is warped causing the paint to scratch off every time I extend it, and the other more glaring problem is that both the left and right grey sections of the arms are coming loose and separating from the arm.

Now call it a lemon if you will but for me enough is enough. I stand amazed and marvel at the sheer creativity and engineering that can produce almost exact replicas of our beloved G1 characters that actually transform. But I've been bitten every single time in this line.

    Here's what I've had:

    MP-01 - Horrible paint apps
MP-04 - Two left feet, broken knee joint, chrome chipping out of package
Hasbro MP-08 - The usual screw scrape on the tail
Hasbro MP-09 - Missing foot/ankle spring, warped spoiler wing
MP-11 - Bad paint apps worst being a very crooked Decepticon symbol on the nose cone.

I know it sounds like a giant gripe fest but all the issues add up to a very sour taste in my mouth where the Masterpiece line is concerned. Now I budget the monies for these monthly and as a husband and father I some times feel guilty that even with the available funds I spend that much on a "toy", so I know the monetary side plays big part in my buyers regret. But I truly believe that even if I had all the extra funds for these I wanted I would still be displeased with what I've gotten.

So my question is has anyone else started to feel this way, or am I just being a whiner???

I find the fact that (I think) every MP01 and MP04's chest couldn't close properly was a huge and obvious QC error. What you've stated are all pretty reasonable to be annoyed at, especially MP04 (mine also has chrome chipping out of package) and MP09.

I find that sometimes there is a lot of whining over very trivial and mostly unnoticeable things (most of the whining about Sideswipe), but it is true that QC has been a problem for most MPs, which isn't something you should expect.

I think they're legitimate complaints but as Gaga explained, these problems are synonymous with MP releases. That doesn't mean you can't complain but it's sorta like, "Welcome to last year".

Just curious, did you ask for a replacement? MP-09 is a given, nobody was safe, regardless of the version they brought but I'm surprised with MP-11.

Of all the releases I own, MP-11 is the most perfect!

My first Hasbro MP-10 was terrible, with the cloudy chrome, warped tires, and a crapton of other problems. I returned it, and thankfully the second one was free of all QC issues.

I usually have pretty good luck with the MP line. my 20th anniversary Optimus (first version) was fine, Starscream was fine, Skywarp was fine, Grimlock was fine, and my MP-09 Rodimus, aside from some issues like the spring in his foot coming out of his foot, had very few problems, and thankfully all were fixed with a couple hours of work.

My (Hasbro) MP10, (Takara) MP11 and (Hasbro) MP11 are all 100% perfect. I feel like I got lucky. I have some very minor nitpicks with the others though, except for MP04's and MP09's usual problems nothing has been enough to upset me.

I feel like we should be preparing ourselves for something to go horribly wrong with MP Soundwave.

I had issues with hip breakage on MP-01. All the other, predominately plastic figures have been damn near perfect. A few small flaws yes... but nothing that has ever made me want to take it back and exchange.

I guess it's part just bad luck, and part my OCD flaring up???

What irks me though is fact that I bought FOC Soundwave for the amount of tax I've payed for some of these Msterpieces and he's well made, qc free, and just a fun toy IMHO, on the other hand everytime I pick up MP-10 and my other MP's I find more issues. I know that's like comparing apples to oranges, but still very annoying.

When it comes to anything you can Purchase, I've resigned myself to this rule of thumb:
Nothing is Perfect, There will ALWAYS be flaws.
MP-10, for example. Great articulation, Comes with his trailer, Vehicle mode actually resembles a Cabover and not a Cabover with an overbite, his Index finger has more than one Knuckle, His Ankles can tilt to the sides, Hasbro didn't need to Cut his smokestacks down, and he has a place to store his Ion Rifle. However, His Index fingers are prone to Popping off (and being the small parts that they are, are easily lost), He is about 20% shorter than his Predecessor, His Legs often refuse to tab together without the Trailer, He cannot flip off megatron, His Energon Axe only fits on one hand, He doesn't have any Electronic Light-Up gimmick for his Matrix Chamber, His Matrix cannot open.
Trust me, there are no Consumer goods that are without flaw.
I can't say anything about MP-11 because I don't have either of the Starscream 2.0 figures, Just their Predecessor with the Fragile wing Hinge.

I feel for you. Luckily I haven't had that bad QC problems with my MPs. My Takara MP-10, MP-11, & MP Megatron are all perfect. No issues with my Hasbro MP Rodimus either. My MP-12 was missing rubber tires, replaced with plastic ones though. All joking aside, my MP-12 did have a very minimal amount of inconsistencies in paint (which was expected), but nothing to make me throw the figure across the room and send it back to the retailer I purchased it from. I think I'm going to hold out a little while for MP-13 though. Hopefully it'll get a Hasbro release, without too much of a change in paint apps. Can't afford to keep importing these things, but I also don't want a "cartoony" or poor-painted version either.

With distribution being as frightful as it is here in my part of NC I usually don't have the luxury to exchange (I usually only see the one I purchase i.e. Grimlock Rodimus MP-10) so I've sold some as is to get some of my money back.

MP-11 I returned to BBTS for store credit.

    Well.... let me see...

    MP01B: Perfect
MP03: Stress mark on the wing hinge
    MP03G: Perfect
    MP04: Paint chip on chest
    MP06: Perfect
MP07: Reverse boobs (Everyone had that)
    MP08: Minor chipping on tail
MP09 V1: Not bad, nail polish fixed the gun/hand problem
MP09 V2: Vehicle roof hinge broke off!
    MP10: Perfect
    MP11: Perfect
    MP11s: Perfect
    MP12: Perfect

So Takara has made some solid MP figures. The only problem that really BURNED me was MP09 V2. Everything else really isn't a big deal in my opinion. Overall, I'm very happy with the MP line and cannot wait for Red Alert and Soundwave to arrive:rock

i thought hasbro grimlock had the tail scratching fixed? was bbts out of mp-11s when you sent it back? his qc was pretty good all around, don't think i heard too many issues.

i hear you on the distribution, here sucks too. i haven't seen any mps in stores except rodimus and the manager of the TRUe here brought in a thundercracker for me.

i'm pretty much sticking with takara mps now (i know sideswipe had some paint issues, but i got lucky on him) if i see a hasbro one, i'll get it, but i'm not wasting my energy looking

After reading this thread by the OP, I don't feel bad now. Sometime, I felt like why do I always got the broken TF. Fortunately, not so much on MP Line. Since we are talking about MP line, let see:

MP1, Perfect at purchase. But currently, I got minor paint scratch.
MP2, Perfect at purchase. But currently, severely paint chip at the roof cab light.
MP5, Perfect at purchase. But currently, severely got cosmic rust plague at the feet.
    MP8, Perfect til this day.
MP9 v1, Perfect at purchase. But currently, the spring at his ankle is beginning to bulge out.
MP10, thumb tends to pop off and this yellow adhesive at the side of hip.
MP11, One side of the leg ratchet joint feels like the material had worn out because you don't hear that sharp clicking sound. Other than that, he was perfect from purchase. But currently, his head has minor paint scratch.
MP11 Hasbro TC, Perfect at purchase. But currently, he has major paint scratch at the head.
    MP12,15, still waiting from RK.

My buddies and I find that in general the first production run is usually plagued with QC issues such as bad paint application etc. it's normally the 2nd run which TakaraTomy fixes the issues (and there are still QC issues).

We just wish that they could get it right the first time like what Bandai Japan does most of the time with their SOC and SRC line.

I don't think it's a matter of OCD. I've had the same problems. The only MP figure I haven't had to replace was Rodimus, and that's only because I never opened him. And after reading about all of his issues, I'm never going to.

It's just part of a collector's nature to feel that something he pays so much for should be free from errors for the most part. And that's sadly never the case.

I don't know, I have two MPs, both form Hasbro, no problems, and they both fel like a quality piece, which is something I can't say about a single Hasbro TF figure since the FE figures came out, and DOTM was an utter disaster overall. My MP-10 is the best TF in my collection, with one problem, a chip in the chrome bumper, which was my fault.

I'm not saying you don't have valid complaints, but the MP line, in my opinion, is worth the money, and the difference in quality is astronomical. I have a ton of problems with basic Hasbro figures, no problems with MPs. Guess you just have shit luck.
