Heh! Posting images is paying off already, thanks for that, I've fixed it now.
On an odd note. I still don't see what are peoples' concern with MP Megs, he looks awesome.
Really thin legs and hes too big, also the fusion cannon is too big on his arm.
That's because you can't see his legs in this picture
Also the cannon is WAY too big and heavy IMO.
Megatron's legs are far better in person, especially when not pulled to their full extension. They don't photograph particularly well either, with the black side panels not standing out enough and the silver shins looking like the sides of the leg.
The Fusion Cannon is big, but it does match the toy scale. Not great for fans of the cartoon but fits the remit of what was going on with the line at the time with a greater mix of toy detail and cartoon accuracy.
On that point it seems that MP Megatron was designed by Yuki, the guy designing Star Saber. Seems Kobayashi is off the hook for that one!
Here's some interesting info that might make a few heads spin... Thanks to SydneyY's translations from the new Japanese MP Guidebook we now know that Kobayashisan's only involvement with MP-05 Megatron was his deco and box design. It was in fact MP Star Saber's designer, Yukisan, who designed MP-05 Megatron! And he had to do it in TWELVE DAYS!!!
Kobayashi revealed that Rodimus was the most challenging MP. The team could not decide whether to make MP Hot Rod or MP Rodimus Prime, which is how they settled on the four mode MP. He said he went through many designs and a whole lotta trial and error before they went ahead with the final result. I think the final product is genius, by the way, and I've gone on many times about how amazing this figure is. I do think it's terribly unfair how derided Kobayashi is by some fans for the figure's QC issues. It's important to keep in mind that these are created by a team and there are many factors that are out of the lead designer's control, perhaps including schedules and budgets. I believe Kobayashi, Hasui, and Yuki have all done the best they can with what they had at the time.
Beat me to it!
Taken from the cool hidden features thread... Ultra Badness and Lord of Tetris point out that MP Grimlock can store his gun in dino mode if you open his Diaclone hatch on his back and insert his rifle upside down. Fits too perfectly to be a coincidence. Love when these guys are designed to store their weapons in alt mode. Also, MP-10's rifle can be mounted to the tab on the top of his trailer's gunship's arm. Very cool. I'd wondered why that tab was there...
YUP, I've been in there a lot lately, diaclone drivers are MP compatable too, they can ride crimlock via the same part you mentioned (so can mp10's humans) and diaclone fit in mp10's seat features.
the thread starts discussing it here just after the mp10 gun feature pic.
No problem mate, I already noticed the diaclone seat and realised what it homaged, but didn't realise it was functional, I had put the gun there, but it didn't really lock in. That optimus gun on the command deck drone arm was just genius though, and news to me.
nice pics keoki!!
what diaclone hatch?
see my above post with the link to cool features, there are pics in there.
All bought in the past 2 months Next on my list: Star Saber.
And question on the quality of TRU Soundwave, though given the price it is a decent buy, I think the quality of the toy is much worse than TRU Optimus Prime YOTH and TRU Grimlock, e.g. the paint, the plastic. How is it compared with Takara Soundwave?
MP Sunstorm looks much better in hand than the stock photos Hasbro released.
12 DAYS??!?! that is a major management fail there. WTF. I don't design toys but i'm a mech e with 15 years experience in design of relatively simple and relatively complex assemblies. 12 days in insane even if every day was a 20 hour work day. That is amazing what he got done. amazing.
