Or, again, accept third parties exist, go mercenary and get what you want where you can get it. I've many Jazz figures that I've been enjoying over the last few years.

 

If only a 3rd party would make a good looking MP Jazz, I'd consider that as an option. I haven't seen one yet that really nails it for me. There are a couple that look "ok" to "good" but nothing yet that screams "buy me now!"
So in the meantime, I keep hoping for an official Takara figure.

So fast forward a bit, I've been watching season 2 of the G1 cartoon on Tubi (love that I found somewhere that has the whole series) and am finding myself really really wanting to complete the Coneheads now. Hoping the sale on BBTS lasts a while longer as I'm getting some extra money in my checks next month...

 

That's fair, I personally feel the same about recent MP offerings. Takara being toon driven now really makes me regret being a completionist as I am inherently promoting something I don't care for entirely. Fortunately, MPV3 Prime has shown me I don't have to buy every Masterpiece figure.

I do wonder though if and when MP Jazz shows up, will he actually be what you want or will he just be the official figure and therefore the one you will buy?

I'm hopeful that the Takara one will be the one I want. Getting all the details just right, similar to what MP36 or MP39 did compared to all the other 3P options of those characters.
In the end if Takara's Jazz is just as compromised as the current 3P options, then I'd probably still pick it up since (if this scenario plays out) he'd be no worse than the 3P options and he'd at least be an official figure (of which I try to stick with overall for my collection (3P Stunticons aside)).

Yes, in my opinion, official is worth the extra price over 3P. In 10-20 years, I'd rather be able to say that my collection is all authentic moreso than just having whichever random 3P figure looks like the character it's meant to represent. I'm not saying that is for everyone but for me, I'd rather it that way.

Having said that. I've delved into 3P figures for characters that I was/am fairly certain will never get an official release (refer to my Stunticon comment in previous post). I made the "mistake" of falling for Apollyon and not a year later MP36 was announced. That's not to say Apollyon is a bad figure, it represents Megatron just fine and will still have a spot in my collection but MP36 is the Megatron I wanted (style wise at least, colour scheme could be tweaked a bit for my liking).

For the most part though, I'm a fairly patient person and I'm fine with waiting so it's not a big deal to me that I currently have an MP Jazz sized hole in my collection (among others).

 

And that's a perfectly fine motivation.

 

You know, looking at that picture made me wonder why Takara never made a laser blast effect for Megatron's fusion cannon? Prime is getting one. Seems like a real missed opportunity there.

Would've been great. BW Megatron is getting one too. Guess they only came up with it when it was doubling as the laser sword too.

I hope all Autobots going forward have guns that are compatible with Prime's ones.

 

Simply might have ditched it since the cannon works on sound versus LED. I still think they have one more version in their backpocket, maybe the one with the different head and cannon. It would be great to get LEDs and a blast effect with that one.

 

The only feature I would change about MP-36 is for the cannon to have purple light and that powerful blast sound. I understand they just reused the sounds from that Galvatron reissue, since the Japanese voice actor had already passed away, and I can also understand the Japanese wanting the voice of Megatron to speak. I'm sure there must be a way to mod the cannon with an LED, Frank Welker's voice, and the deeper blast noise. And obviously retain the ch-ch-ch-ch-ch (I use that all the time!)
