Is there consensus about when the shift toward cartoon-accuracy occurred?

It's clearly there in Ironhide, but did it happen earlier than that? Tracks? Ultra Magnus?

There's hardly any consensus on anything among this fandom.

I'd say the earliest sign of a shift towards greater toon accuracy started with Smokescreen.

Oof, that's a pretty hard sell without the custom tapes he came with. It would look all sorts of weird with the regular tapes.

I know this board seems to absolutely despise him for whatever reason, but Bobbyskullface recently did a couple videos on that very thing. They're pretty informative actually.

The Boxes are stashed away in the loft. I was going for an energon cube vibe with the accessories storage. I've got all the cards and instructions in order of purchase.

I'd say Ultra Magnus and "MP11SW Skywarp" were the first figures to be "cartoon accurate", and then the shift for the whole line happened with Ironhide, the second mainline figure after Kobayashi took over.

I'd consider Tracks as not really accurate to any of toy/toon/comic. He's an odd one. A transition piece, the first figure after Kobayashi took over. At that point Kobayashi would have just formed his larger MP team and was probably still figuring out a vision for where they wanted to go.

(I'm not bashing Tracks here, he is - as I've come to realise - a great figure)

Personally, I've come to the conclusion Smokescreen has the cartoon details (head, logos) just to make him more different from the Prowl to Steak retool. His colors are far too "realistic"/dark to be cartoon accurate.

On the contrary. I truly do understand. It's not bad at all as seen in my pictures. It was fun! Nothing broken and the tabbing wasn't a struggle! :)

It wasn't so bad. He has a fun transformation and I like the variety of how all the parts move.

Sticking to first party pics and to the topic. My obligatory Starscream Life-Long Design edition MP11 third reissue. :)

That's why I haven't pulled the trigger yet. It would look very bad.

I know. I was sad when he died, but, I've been on an IDW kick lately and that Prowl is a prick. Bigger than Cyclops.

Yep, I just watched Bobbyskullface's two videos on this topic. Whether you ultimately agree or not, he makes some good points and it's worth the watch.

Is this release better than the other 2? Loose limbs or anything like that? Please let us know.

I love this picture, the symmetry and presentation is outstanding, you know, I could tell from looking at your pics that you were a very organised person and it was only confirmed by your brilliant display of their cards in that booklet you showed earlier, lovely picture again.

    Mistransformed shins on MP-12!

    :p

It almost always gets me as well, haha, nice picture!
