    Some people mentioned on Facebook they can't keep them all straight. So I made a chart. Can be modified as more come out.

    Lists the name of all 12 companies making 3P Dinobots, how many molds they have released so far, size class, combining or not, and other gimmicks.

    [IMG]

    EDIT - Updated list. Added spaces for price and height.

    Started a master list of names. Yellow boxes are released, blue boxes are toys that have been released by Hasbro.

    Here are a list of links to the thread for each toy. For the sake of clarity for the layman, I'll refer to each Dinobot by Hasbro names.

    A nice addition would be if they are based on G1, WfC/FoC, or some other source. It's hard to say with some, I know, but some are very clear.

    Not for me, this gives me the chance to get the better toy for each figure in Chug size ;) . As for MP size, already made up my mind long time ago.

    Please explain to me how having so many options for a seriously large gaping hole in ones Classics collection is depressing.

    I kinda like the choice, as I can potentially pick and choose the manufacturer I like best on an individual Dinobot basis, 'cause I don't plan on building a combiner out of them.

    Okay, I added the style to the list, and added mention as to which mold each company has already produced.

    Maybe the fact that there's tons of other holes that could be plugged and they're all trying to jam in their own versions of the cork in this one hole instead? Look at that list. It's madness.

    Seriously there's 11 different companies doing this. That is crazytown.

    Let's see, 11 companies, each making about 5 Dinobots... that's 55 toys. Bullsfire and Planet X are using Hasbro products for their Grimlocks, so that's 53. Mecha Form and FansProject are making "6th members", so that's 55 again. KFC is making a set of 6 "other" Dinocassettes, the Dino-Minions, so that's 61! Plus a SG Haymaker, that's 62. TFC made 5 recolors, that's 67. Justitoys made 26 recolors, that's 93. FansProject made it's Diaclone Sludge, that's 94.

    What's wrong with 94 third party Dinobots?

    It might be more accurate to state that:

    - Bullfire,
    - FansToys,
    - Gigapower

    ...are trying to fill the Masterpiece Dinobot niche;

    - FansProject,
    - GCreations,
    - MechaForm,
    - ToyWorld

    ...are trying to fill the Classics / Henkei / Universe / Generations Dinobot niche;

    - Planet X

    ...has War for / Fall of Cybertron Dinobots covered,

    - Justitoys

    ...is all over Legends-scale Dinobots,

    - KFC

    ...are producing Dinobot-themed cassettes as a way of repurposing their current dinosaur-related cassette molds; and

    - TFC

    ...produced a Star Cats combiner that coincidentally pays homage to the Dinobots.

    So really, it's not so much that we have eleven companies working on Dinobot third party analogs as much as we have three companies jousting for the Masterpiece slot, four (which is somewhat excessive, I'll admit) shoulder-to-shoulder on the CHUG front, and four companies either working uncontested in specific fandom niches or offering products only tangentially related to the Dinobots.

    It was more than a coincidence, it was pretty much intentional, as the original designer planned to have a G1 recolor from day one to sell to collectors.

    Depressing in a couple of ways. On the one hand, there are only so many resources to go around. Some of these companies could be working on other, less time consuming projects to work on other holes that need to be filled.

    The more depressing aspect, is this is clear over saturation of the market. Some of the bigger boys, like fanstoys and fansproject will weather this storm just fine. Some of these other upstarts can't all possibly do well in this climate. Some of these companies will take a beating on this. Maybe a potentially awesome might never make it off the ground because of bad timing.
