Seasons 1 and 2 were lighting in a bottle. After seeing The Book of Boba Fett, I'm skeptical about season 3.

Fortunately, season 2 ended at such a good place that it could serve as a series finale if I choose to ignore everything else.

Yup, sounds good. I loved the revelation of the Sith Eternal, just a little late and not enough screen time. Although the "mysterious" part, not knowing much about it, is very Star Wars-y. They could have kept that, but throughout 3 movies, just add a little more info that it doesn't feels out of nowhere, just don't explain so much that you don't have any questions anymore. The most interesting thing about Star Wars was, when not everything was explained yet.

Yeah Sith Eternal and Exegol were cool ideas, I love the idea that thousands of people fully embraced the evilest part of the Empire and worked secretly to build it up. And I’d argue Palpatine having a secret back up fleet makes sense too, let alone cloning failsafes.

You just gotta, you know, put in the work to make it happen as a writer.

My fav character in Mando is actually Werner Herzog specifically because he represents a "palatable" version of the Empire. He's no power-crazed madman that'll kill you at the drop of a hat, instead he believes that fascism is necessary for peace and order but presents himself as being a bit more relaxed and informal than the other Imperials we're used to. The Empire wasn't bad, just Palpatine, Vader, Tarkin, and everyone else who is conveniently dead.
That is a fascinating take on how the Empire could take root again, and quickly. If that had remained the tone, as opposed to force healing and snoke clones and other Sith secrets, I wouldn't mind building up to the ST so much (I mean I still have loads of issues, but it'd be a start).

Andor, Mando and other non-movie content shows you can create great stories around less popular stuff.

In retrospect I feel the PT was forgettable but without it, we wouldn’t have gotten Clone Wars, Rebels, TotJ (which have been great).

The ST was not planned and also a forgettable mess but Mando is creating a fun roadmap between OT and ST.

I’m enjoying the new content. And ultimately, SW leadership is making the right calls slowing down big budget movie productions and giving Filoni, Favereau and Gilroy room to tell their stories.

I do think we can still have that. One good thing about the vague, nonsensical separation of the First Order and the Sith Eternal is that you can still have a really compelling story about a failed liberal (in the broad sense, not the partisan sense) governing body that eventually falls to a resurgent fascist movement without having to deal with Palpatine and Sith shenanigans. The best way to approach this era, in my opinion, is to make it clear that the First Order/Palpatine's plot in the decades between the trilogies relies on stoking the already-present discontent and anxieties of the galaxy under the New Republic in order to create the conditions for the First Order to be successful. That means you have plenty of Imperial holdouts and pro-fascist camps like Herzog who have no connection to the First/Final Order, but whose presence implies an extremely tenuous and unstable sociopolitical state in the galaxy.

In my mind, the biggest failing of the Sequels was their stubborn disinterest in the wider galaxy and contextualizing the events of the film in a larger world. The Mandalorian (and, to a lesser extent, Book of Boba Fett), has done a fairly good job of laying foundations for that context. Once it's all said and done, I do think these shows will end up softening some of the problems of the Sequel Trilogy... especially if they're more like Andor and less like BoBF.

I agree that these shows will probably do for the sequel trilogy what clone wars did for the prequel trilogy in softening peoples opinion of them.

Yep. Palpatine did it once already throughout the PT. As Lucas said, democracies are given away, and he worked hard to make sure he got to the point to where they gave him everything he wanted. Even if Mace never raised his saber at him and he didn’t quite get the chance to do Order 66 yet, the Republic probably would’ve still cheered for him declaring himself Emperor at that point.

Not a bad thing for sure, lessening the vitriol a good bit.

I feel like the Sequels have a far steeper uphill battle than the Prequels. It's characters, world, and overall story are fairly empty, and on top of that it has the unenviable task of justifying undoing/redoing the OT. Not saying it's impossible (somehow Disney got everyone praising Hayden Christensen's acting, so stranger things have happened), but I highly doubt it's something that can be done by one cartoon. Of course, I'd argue that the Prequel revival is a lot more complicated than just one cartoon, too.

Yeah, people seem to forget or choose to ignore just how hated the prequels, Hayden, Jar Jar, etc were.

But it starts with a single show and expands from there. The prequels were almost universally hated (at least by the vocal fandom) when they initially came out and now sentiment towards them has changed, in part because of the new material that we've gotten that help to give context to that era.

I think the only obstacle post-OT shows have is figuring out how to handle using OT characters. You can't sideline them. Do you recast them? Do you deep fake? Regardless, Mando has shown that this vast empty space of time between OT and ST is perfect for telling new and original stories. I'd say the pre-OT time is a lot more constrained on what they can do with the timeline and plot.

We're gonna get some sort of Thrawn arc during the post-OT time period. Ahsoka Tano's storyline has not concluded. Neither has Moff Gideon or Bo-Katans. There's plenty of fun stuff to explore post-OT.
