Read through translations of what wwwkcc mentioned about the Threezero VF-1J:
    • He went to a store looking for an Arcadia but they were sold out
    • He doesn’t like the stand
    • The red FLIR sensor panel(on the sides of the nose, slides forward to accommodate the hip joints) slides out of place too easily
    • Something about the foot or part of it being removed too easily whereas this wasn’t an issue he encountered on HI METAL R VF-1s. Not sure if this is regarding the foot/nozzle itself or the moving hinged flap from the inner leg that pivots inwards for more ankle tilt range(inspired by the Bandai 1/72 VF-1 kit)
    • The head might not be as secure in fighter mode or something near it. There’s a small flap that opens in front of it that no other VF-1 toy/model has so I’m wondering if that’s what he’s referring too. I’ve also noticed the visor being hidden in fighter mode in a lot of pics by angling the head inwards into the fuselage, maybe that’s what he referred to?
    • Something about the airbrake not being as pronounced
    • Gap fillers in the torso aren’t necessary but the shoulders might not be held as securely in place(*there’s a mistranslation here I think)
    • Heavier than the Arcadia but feels good to handle
    • He likes the size and weight
    • Borrows a lot from the DX regarding articulation and transformation with some steps unique to the Threezero design
    • The pilot figure doesn’t appear to have hands
    • Gun strap is stiff
    • Gerwalk antenna is too short and thick
    • He isn’t a fan of how the elbows and wrist joints look
    • He suggested possibly waiting for the VF-1S to see if the issues are ironed out
Most of the issues seemed minor, he seemed satisfied for the most part.

DX YF-21 was pics from Jason Wong; on display at Akihabara:
    IMG_4435.jpeg IMG_4436.jpeg IMG_4437.jpeg IMG_4438.jpeg IMG_4439.jpeg

Overlooked before that interchangeable canopy parts are included, you can see the heat shield canopy in battroid mode(was shown prior but looked more smoked rather than opaque here).

I can't wait. It will be nice to have something to fiddle with other than a VF1. Fingers crossed we don't get Bandai'd...

I hope so. Thing is no matter how good it turns out, I imagine if/when Bandai ever gets to a DX VF-11 or VF-17, they’ll be a lot better. Lots of potential especially if they prioritize battroid mode over fighter. Loved how chunky they looked in the Macross 7 anime.

Haven't checked the anime, yet, but Bandai seems to have cheated by either making the YF-21 skirt-armor way longer and/or making the YF-21's side-skirt themselves really short.

I don't remember seeing either option with existing line-arts.

As such, kinda bizarre that Bandai can cheat it that way but refuses to make adjustments on it to make the armor a bit deeper to be more accomodating so as not to even require dummy gunpods when the rear landing gears are deployed and stuff.

If a DX VF-11b/c or VF-17 gets the green light, you know that guaranteed that everyone is going complain about something that irks them.

May I make a list: Clown feet, clown hands, worthless plastic, die cast, not anime correct, over slathered tramp stamps, hollow spaces, etc…

If we’re constantly OCD about things, then why are we getting it? It’s it due to FOMO and “Pier Pressure” thats overtaking our common sense and that we all have to be trendy and be like others (and if we all go against the grain, then we get look down that we’re not we’re not like the cool gang)?

Did Bandai cheat or did Kawamori cheat? I think Kawamori even mentioned that it was different back then because they were not designing with 3D modeling software so there is more possibility for animation magic that isn't going to translate to perfect toys. I'd rather they make some compromises that result in a better toy than settle for endless panel forming just to get line art perfect modes.

VF-11B can't be announced soon enough. When the VF-19 was first announced I sold off my yamata VF-11B thinking a DX chogokin vf-11B and YF-21 would be right around the corner and match the dx yf-19 better. little did i think bandai would be what...6 years on and not having even teased an 11B. at least teh VF-21 is coming soon (also replacing a 6 years ago departed yamato...although the yamato YF-21 was not as dear to me as the VF-11B)...i hope the VF-11B does eventually come though.

Box design for the DX YF-21 via MW

It's the same format as the Eggy Yolk YF-19.

Edit: I'm really interested in seeing both the 1/60 Yammie YF-21/VF-22s and the DX YF-21 in Pengriod mode. :p

Ok. I’ll say it. :p  I’m hopeful that Arcadia can start working on an improved YF-21 once Bandai is done with the license. Theirs might cost more, but I would love to see the team give it another go and I’m curious what they would change if they used the Yamato design as their starting point. Also, make it a full set release like their YF-19 was, and this time include a fold booster.

Scans help a lot! I still need to see it standing in Battroid with no stand to help me make my final decision……

Thanks for the scans, much appreciated! I’m hoping the instructions are just making the transformation seem more complex than it actually is. Off the bat, I can see where the Yamato 1/60 remains functionally superior:
    • Merely rotates the pilot seat from fighter/gerwalk to battroid instead of needing to detach both the canopy and seat then reattach both with the sear in a rotated position
    • Doesn’t need faux gunpods for fighter mode with FAST packs on; there’s enough clearance for the gun pods to prevent them from hitting the ground with the landing gear down even with the FAST packs mounted
    • Bottom fuselage doesn’t have a gap between the FAST packs(was this done just to accommodate the stand? Seems like a weird oversight)
    • Doesn’t need extra parts like the battroid joint(looks like it keeps the backpack parallel to the body instead of falling against it at an angle; maybe not using it kills the wide gap but leaves it floppy like a cape?) nor lock joint. I imagine it could transform without needing the battroid joint but that lock pin is a mystery…how would it affect transformation if it’s not used?
I wouldn’t be surprised if some of the aspects above were made as a compromise to accommodate delimiter mode. Main benefits over the Yamato 1/60 seem to be:
    • Easier detachment of legs for delimiter mode due to the entire pelvis itself being detachable using a button unlocking mechanism
    • Bigger legs in battroid mode
    • Parallel tabs to secure the nose/keep it in place with battroid mode
    • Interchangeable heat shield canopy for battroid mode(I don’t use stuff like that but credit where due as Bandai could’ve easily not even bothered)
Some of the stuff done here would’ve been par the course in the HI METAL R line(given the much smaller size and precedence for parts swapping/removal) but I expected more with the DX. Seems like this design was challenging for Bandai. Almost like they bit off more than they could chew as the design almost seems unfinished, especially compared to the Yamato 1/60 YF-21 which did some things better and was released 16 years ago. The Yamato 1/60 would’ve benefitted from not being designed with a functional delimiter mode in mind and I bet this toy would’ve benefitted without one as well.

I'm really not too excited about the 21.:(

What a shame. Probably my favorite Valk design.

I've got two PO'd and paid for.

Probably going to put one in Battroid and maybe the other in Gerwalk???

    Glad I didn't sell my Yamato's.

    DX YF-21 display video:

Have a feeling the battroid joint(between the back and body) is mainly used to keep the backpack upright and parallel to the body. Without it, it probably sags against the body. Bigger question to me is if the locking pin is needed for fighter mode, I hope not!

Meanwhile, on the other end of the spectrum but also from Bandai, shortcut change HG “1:100” YF-21 transformation:
    https://youtube.com/shorts/HxJIUctZyUI?si=lfDQNizVWkNgByZW

Wouldn’t mind seeing the shortcut change style of transformation tested on a future HI METAL R or DX toy but with the ability to keep all parts on in all modes; nothing cast aside between modes.
