It’s definitely a loud look and took me a while to get used to. My favorite 19 is the VF-19P (non-bloodstained).

The parts list includes a fighter mode cover and fighter antennas so guessing the cover is the dorsal plate and the antennas are parallel to slide between the shoulders instead of angled out. If there’s an option to leave the back of the head pivoted above the fuselage a bit with the angled lasers poking out, I might just do that instead of using the option parts. Another part mentioned is for sound booster attachments.

Oh man...the Tiny Sessions figures are neat and all, but I'm not really into the SD look. Had a couple of the 25s, but ultimately sold them. That said...it's the YF-19. And I looooooooove the YF-19.

Regarding the Fire Valk, the only things I'm not a fan of are the mouth on the battroid head and the triple head lasers. I'm very picky about the head lasers on VFs and YFs. Don't ask why, I really have no clue. I don't like forward pointing ones a la the VF-1A, and I don't like odd numbers for them.

Fire valk only has 2 head lasers(1 per side). The central fin isn’t a head laser unlike the YF-19.

If you don't like the head laser pointed forward on the 1A, you can always sweep it back on the 1A (same w/ others like the 31J) like the 19. That said, while I like the 1A, I can understand that the look of the head overall isn't going to be everyone's cup of tea

Oddly I've always had my VF-1A with its head laser pointed backwards in Battroid mode. Then I saw the movie and keep my movie 1As with the head laser pointed forward and the TV 1As pointed backwards.

Then again I have a soft spot for the 1A since that was the first Macross toy I had.

Keep it vertical, so it can be readily unsheathed:

Lol at all the preorder enabling. :lol

I should also mention I just plain don't like the shape of the 1A's head.

That mouth plate for the Fire Valk has definitely tipped the scales towards ordering a bit more. :lol

For a blessedly-brief time in the early-2000's, 1A variants were damn-near the only transformable VF-1 toys i could manage to source
in those strictly-Analog, pre-internet-purchasing days of mine.

Thankfully, my second YAMATO 1/48 broke the trend... being Focker's 1S that had just been released in 2003 or so.
the age of e-sales finally arrived for me, a few years on, and i was never made to have to settle for a less-than-personally-ideal VF-1 variant again...

I didn’t either until I watched DYRL? and Yamato showed off their 1st VF-1A toy over 20 years ago. They showed how good VF-1A head sculpts could look and I’ve been a fan ever since.

I preferred it when I was younger but after unboxing my Yamato Fire Valkyrie years back, I ended up keeping the unmasked look due to how well it was sculpted.

It's from the DAICON IV opening video:
. I think it was animated in 1984, the animators who worked on it went on to have big careers in the industry.

It's insane how much talent was crammed into it. It's like the ultimate fan-art passion project by a bunch of pros, working in their off-time.

The phrase "ahead of its time" comes to mind. Really creative...and there are Easter Eggs all over the place.

I'd love to see a guide to all the characters in the panning shot at the end, but I don't think there's a good enough copy out there to really analyze it.

The Wikipedia page (Daicon III and IV Opening Animations - Wikipedia) mentions the identities of some of the characters shown in the earlier parts...most of which are pretty obvious anyway...but it only describes that particular scene as, "a massive crowd of fictional characters". Lol. They do provide some identities in one of the footnotes, though:

"Some of the many characters shown in the crowd scene are Anna, Apollo Geist, Ātman, Alien Vandel, Barom One, Bat, Bert, Big X, Boss Borot, a Brutishdog, Captain Dyce, Char Aznable, Cobra, Cornelius, Cyborg 009, Densen Man, Doruge (a Toei kaijū), Fighters, Doraemon, Space Sherrif Gavan, Gill-man, Gort, Hack, Hakaider, Hell Ambassador, the Invisible Man, Inspector Zenigata, Kamen Rider V3, Kanegon, Kemur, King Joe, Lum, Lupin III, Maria from Metropolis, Metalinom, Metaluna Mutant, Martian from the 1953 War of the Worlds, Ming the Merciless, Moonlight Mask, Q-tarō, Pris, Robby the Robot, Robocon, the Robot Gunslinger from Westworld, Robot Santōhei, Snake Plisskin, Space Boy Soran, Space Ace, Speed Racer, Spock, Superman, Super Sentai, Derek Wildstar, Gigantor, Triton, and a Xilien.[3]"

Edit: found a remastered and upscaled version...might be a little better quality...
Edit 2: this version includes an epilogue bit at the end...worth watching!
Edit 3: After about 10 viewings of various versions of this movie...PRETTY SURE I'M TURNING JAPANESE!!!

Personally I feel all the "upscaled" versions are actually worse for trying to spot characters etc, so many fine lines/clues/details are blurred out.
