This is why I’m not getting my hopes up that the Asratec SDF-1 in the teaser pic nor described on the site is a toy nor made for sale. While I would be thrilled at the news of a new SDF-1 toy by Bandai, it’s not mentioned on the exhibition site. The only mention of toys was for a 1/60 display of various VFs. If a new SDF-1 toy will be made then I wouldn’t be surprised if it gets announced and revealed at the exhibition in October.
Yeah, I suppose Banda IS known for showing off elaborate display pieces that were never intended for production. I’ll just keep my fingers crossed for a standard SDF-1 toy, hopefully sooner than later.
With the way things are going hopefully KitzConcept announces one then Bandai or Arcadia announces an even bigger one that turns out to be cheaper even after having to import it and pay for shipping.
I hate gimmicks. Any gimmick just increases the likelihood of breakage. I don’t even like light-up LED stuff. No electronics in toys.
I can tolerate some mild gimmicks, like lights and sounds where I can leave the batteries out and ignore them, but yeah - I would rather not have them at all. Light up eyes in particular usually result in dead looking eyes unless the light is on, unless the company does something truly thoughtful and has fully painted eyes that are also backlit but don’t need to be - like Bandai’s Daitetsujin and FansToys Hannibal. That’s a rarity though.
I’d rather not see gimmicks either. Wouldn’t be surprised if HG gets their toy licensees to make a light up SDF-1 but I’d rather have an SDF-1 toy with no gimmicks. If Bandai makes a DX TV SDF-1 additional effect parts for a Daedelus punch would be cool.
Hmm, sounds like I know where my copy will sit then. Right next to the kneeling Robosen Optimus Prime.
Oh trust me, it is a glorified paper weight in my house. I bought it because I always wanted a transforming and radio controlled Transformer growing up. Plus I had grand plans of programming it to do lots of different things, but they stay as plans in my head.
I never seriously considered getting one…but if I had, it would most likely be used to go around the house humping things…haha…
Wouldn’t be surprised if the Asratec SDF-1 at the Macross 40th exhibition will be the DYRL? version transforming like it did in the beginning of DYRL? with Kawamori himself sending the transformation/movement commands via the V-Sido app on a phone or tablet. Maybe the presentation will start in the dark with the lights(on the SDF-1) slowly turning on progressively with the intro theme song in the background leading to the transformation.
It sounds as though Bandai is taking a cue from its self-moving Gundams here. I highly doubt what will be displayed will be offered for sale.
