They've never said anything about it since. That's what they initially labeled as their DX VF-1J. FWIW, it's normal for Bandai to display a one-off prototype, then never show it again.

BANDAI probably also realized that the size and complexity of a product like that would have been prohibitively expensive
for all but a tiny core elite contingent of well-heeled collectors.

the DX VF-1, in it's final form, with it's original MSRP, was an exceedingly smart move on BANDAI's part.

what wasn't so smart, was keeping production so tightly limited. but, then again, from a supply and demand viewpoint, perhaps it is.

i mean, BANDAI clearly knows it has lighting in a bottle here, so, from a business point of view,
why not keep the supply strictly controlled, and keep the demand desperately high?

i mean, it is indeed a singularly crummy situation from our viewpoint,
however, from the view of a company that is attempting to corner a rather saturated market with a Killer App of a flagship product,
well... it just sound more like smartly tactical business practices...

Anyone know if Arcadia Store takes orders from the US? I need this Minmay fig w/ the Hi-Metal VF-4 releasing later this month.

    Much appreciated.

Finally opened up my Bandai DX Chogokin YF-19 after making space by selling off my 10-year-old Yammie and it is gorgeous. It's a little thinner than I'd like it to be, but this YF-19 is truly the culmination of years and years of refining and numerous iterations (thanks to the popularity of the YF-19). The waist joint, the integrated leg panels, the collapsable head cover (which should have been detachable for Gerwalk mode...), just all these little touches make for a really polished figure. Unfortunstly, from what I understand, there are quite a number of QC issues on this thing ranging from broken head lasers to tail fins. Mine was fortunately QC issue free and transforming it back into fighter mode eliminated all the gaps.

    20190306_213948.jpg

As many have mentioned, the wings do get a little floppy (still can't figure out that high-speed mode, huh?) and I do fear for the longevity of the metal ball joints. (Not sure why Bandai doesn't use the same super-solid and durable metal ball joints they use in their Digivolving Spitits figures, which are essentially a metal ball with a PVC/POM socket.)

    20190307_154454.jpg

But of course, poseabilty is phenomenal as expected and complements all those pin-point barrier punches.

Last but not least, the accessories are plentiful. We not only do we have all the standards like the fold booster and FAST packs, we have a ton of stuff that appears only in secondary material, like the plethora of missiles.

Definitely a worthwhile buy for any Macross Plus fan. Can we get a DX Chogokin YF-21 now? Pretty please? I mean, you already have the license, right? (^.^')

If you dont mind me asking how much did that set you back? I got the Blue VF-19 I got back in 2002 that years of display have not been kind to this figure. It is solid in fighter, but a display (do not touch) floppy mess in battloid. I've always wanted to get the YF version.

They were about $225 shipped if you got a preorder in. Probably lucky if you can find one for under $300 now.

There are some listed for sale on Manda for roughly 26k to 28k yen not including S&H. Waiting for the eventual DX YF-21 Full Set if it gets released.

Decisions, decisions. I pre-ordered the Kitz Concept 1/72 Roy Fokker VF-1S with Fast Pack due out in April (hopefully fixing some of the minor things from the first release of the VF). But, I just snagged the 2008 release of Bandai's 1/55 Roy Focker VF-1S. Not sure that I'm going to want to keep both.

    I have a G1 Jetfire that's in great shape, a 2012 Bandai 1/55 with pack of Hikaru Ichijyo's VF-1A, and a 1/60 premium finish of DYRL VF-1S Ichijyo.

Poll: Do I keep the forthcoming 1/72 Fokker and 1/55 Focker or eventually trade/sell one?

Might seem like a dumb question to some, but I only enjoy collecting certain characters in a given universe and don't strive for a complete universe. I also enjoy finding NEW but then opening for display unless I plan on selling it. (I haven't opened the 1/55 Focker yet.) After reliving my youth a bit when I started introducing my son to Transformers, I just started picking up collecting over the past year. Obviously it comes down to my choice, but love the passion on the forum and would be great to hear thoughts.

I don't have the 1/72 but I will say that you should keep the 1/55. The 1/55 is basically the passport for transforming toy fans. Everyone should have one. ;)

Really though if you can't keep both just open & swoosh them both around and keep whichever makes you happier.

I think that's great advice. Something about that G1 Jetfire... man is that thing perfectly sturdy yet simple to transform. I had one when I was a kid and the good memories got me back to it. I was a fan of Robotech back then...just too young to realize that Jetfire was a Valkyrie. I think you might be on to something. Did they ever re-release the Ichijyo VF-1S DYRL in 1/55?

That's tough. I have the first edition of KitzConcept's 1/72 and the very same 1/55 reissue you're describing. Despite being the same character, same Valkyrie, they are very different toys. Personally the 1/55 is one of my most treasured Macross pieces and one of my all-time favorites, so between the two it's not even a choice for me. I also have a G1 Jetfire, and that's where my 1/55 Takatoku collection ends. Since you already have the VF-1A, maybe you're all set too? I dunno.

The 1/72 KitzConcept is fine but I haven't handled it all that much. It's not a pick-up-and-play kind of toy for me. I haven't actually decided yet if I want to keep it but I'm waiting for the FAST packs before I make a final decision. I'd say it's worth trying out since it's actually pretty different from the Bandai and Arcadia offerings, both in scale and in detailing. But budgets aren't unlimited....

My 1/55 VF-1S? If I ever decided to sell my collection it would probably be one the very last to go, and even then I might not sell it.

I don't sell Macross items unless it's an extra so I'm one of those people that doesn't understand your question. LOL. Obviously I would keep both. I think it's worth while to keep both if you can. While they are both the Focker 1S they are very different in terms of what place they will probably hold in your collection. For me the 1/55 is nostalgia and where valkyrie toys started. The Kitz Concept is one of the latest with lights and it's a scale you don't already have.

This is awesome input from everyone. Thanks!

These are both great comments. In addition to the fact that I can see why I was struggling with what to do for the Focker 1/55.... It's because it's frankly an amazing Valkyrie. I think that completes the 1/55 story for me. I'd be interested in a Ichijo DYRL VF-1S in 1/55 scale, but those are pretty outrageous in price if you get an original. So unless it's reissued...

I think it makes perfect sense to at least see how the 1/72 Fokker works out. It is really interesting the amount of detail put into it. I've been impressed with pics. Just need to see how it actually displays. Thanks again for all the feedback! I'll be sticking with both Focker/Fokkers for now.

I would buy the VF-1Js but I'd rather see them continue their SHF-like line with a Lisa Hayes.

Keep the 1/55 VF-1S; classic and the best it's likely to ever get as Bandai abandoned that series by 2010. In addition, it's a proven toy revered by many. If you're planning to sell, how much do you want for it?

Meanwhile the Kitzconcept VF-1 still has growing pains to iron out.

Sell/Trade the KitzConcept one if it doesn't turn out to your liking.
No Bandai never did rerelease the Hikaru VF-1S. There was a black and white placard teasing a 1/55 VF-1S Strike Valkyrie for the Origin of Valkyrie line in 2008 but nothing ever materialized.
