Oh man, good old Bandai was just getting started with their valkyrie making at the time. They were so cute to think that friction joints alone could hold up the Quarter's giant slabs of plastic of the main gun and deck. But in all honesty, with the attention to detail Bandai is putting in their macross products now, I would love to see their interpretation of a TV SDF-1.
I just hope that if Bandai did get the licenses, that they go all in. No more of this "hey let's make everything cg model accurate but use ball joints that will loosen over time and pretend we don't know what ratchets are despite using them on our SOC line and various other toys". I don't think they brought their A game to Macross in recent years and while it doesn't show, it can be felt in hand. If the rumor is true, then depending on when the license was pulled, it does explain why Arcadia only released 4 VF-1's and stopped. Everything else has been a Fire Valkyrie, VF-0's and the VF-4 from the VFX game. They were well aware that most fans did want the FB2012 Skull Team VF-4 but since the one we are getting is the VFX reissue, I'm guessing they still weren't able to get the FB2012 license. It would be crazy if Bandai actually for the 1/60 license for the FB2012 VF-4. Arcadia still sells dolls and other stuff so they can probably survive.
And now young Slave IV, you are mine! I see what you are saying now...I've never paid much attention to licencing but always interested in who makes the best stuff. The Arcadia VF-1J I recently opened was so impressive, It's made it easy for me to just buy more of their releases even if I have no attachment to the model. I still want a 1/48 Milia with super parts to go with the max I should have somewhere and I'm scared that they will be released again in 1/60, which will pretty much force my hand to get those as well.
Heeeeeeeeeeere's Delta! VF-31 SV-262 The 31 looks straight outta Frontier. I'm pretty 'bleh' on it so far. I was hoping for more of a departure. Here's the toys
Like I said on Twitter: It's Jem & The Holograms vs. The Misfits for the cast. Also SINGLE ENGINE and dat gold on the 262! It better be able to transform!
I think this is easily the least excited I've ever been for a new Macross series, show and toys both. I'll still watch though, hopefully there will be some magic to pull me in. Those character designs though... At least the 262 looks kind of fresh. yay, silhouettes. Wait...is it my tired beery brain or do those 262 silhouettes look like the VF-1?
I dunno....i like the art. And I thought i'm not into Love Live!. I'm confused. And them valks.....nice.
I was very surprised they actually had footage ready to go. Break down of what I saw in the trailer: - Regults, and glaugs! The Cheyenne from Macross Zero? - New macross ship looks like a more detailed version of the quarter - Background art looks amazing! - Space battles look very much like frontier - Freya reminds me a lot of Ranka - The VF-31 looks like a fast mofo and it looks like it has the double barreled guns of the 29 in the trailer. - This looks and feels a lot of like Frontier.
It's totally the VF-1, they're teasing us. They must want to keep the actual battroid and gerwalk modes a surprise.
OK, even though that capitol ship looks just like the Quarter I still hope it gets a new toy...one that doesn't droop like a dead carp in ship mode.
