Cheapest one I've seen is actually the Isamu followed by Ozma. Not sure if you like those decos. Both have unique head sculpts too whereas Focker is just a repaint. Isamu has a different gun too.
Yeah, thanks. The Isamu seems to be actually shelf warming, but that off-white plastic used on it looks bad to my eyes. I hated it on the YF-19 v1 as well. Really not my thing. The Ozma is very tempting (although I may be the only one who is not a fan of the pirate hat head), but as much as I complain about just how many of these damn things are basically white, the 29 is quite a 'busy' battroid mode, and I find that the charcol of Ozma loses a lot of the definition and details. I have no idea at all why I want the anniversary deco. Partly, because its that VF-1 homage on a 29 which I really like as a celebration of the 30 years thing, but it hits a nice balance between 'just another white Macross figure' and accenting with black and yellow. I even liked that original red deco quite a bit. That said, if I like it that much and can find a Perci on preorder, it wont take much to persuade to grab one of those too.
I don't really know much about Macross but the designs are really cool and I want to own one, but I've heard that stability is a fairly common issue when it comes to Macross. Which mold would you guys say has the best stability in battroid mode?
If you want stability in battroid mode, I'd suggest Yamato/Arcadia figures as Bandai's joints tend to be crap.
Agreed. I have inked in every spot I can find on my Ozma -29 with pure black for additional contrast/detailing and added as many silver bits as are appropriate (matching the existing silver details), and it still "loses" most of the detailing in the darkness. The YF-29B looks perfect---a unique color, overall rather dark but not so dark so as to hide things. If you don't have a -29 yet---definitely try to get the upcoming -29B. The original VF-1. And probably the VF-0 and VF-11. They don't have their wings sticking out behind them. (-21/22 is too top-heavy and tiny-footed, despite also having nothing sticking out behind it)
So how about these guys? Are these good deals? 1/60 VF-19 1/60 YF-19 1/60 VF-0S 1/60 VF-0S with Ghost Booster also, how are some of the model kits like these?
You'd be best served by watching reviews on youtube. Then you can see exactly how to transform them, what the colors are like, and if there are any concerns/gotchas about the mold. The VF-1J "model kit" you linked to isn't really a model kit. It's an unassembled "kit" of the actual Yamato 1/60 VF-1 toy. So you're actually assembling the toy yourself. Lots of folks have done that and love it. You can paint it however you want and it comes with the option parts that were only included with the 30th anniversary toys (I think). There's a page online of someone explaining everything about the build and what to be careful about when assembling it. The actual model kits look great, but are much more delicate. I was going to get one of those but opted instead to save up for the real 1/60 toy I wanted. The model kits will require a lot of painting and decals, and won't be as sturdy as the actual toys. They also don't transform quite the same, and may also require disassembly between modes. The Yamato VF-19 appears to be most people's go-to. Yamato really did it right on that one.
Yes. The VF-19 is a fabulously designed valkyrie. Really sold, really nicely designed and a joy to handle. Strong joints and solid pivoting hips instead of the tiny balljointed hips that plague 99% of all other valkyries. That price isn't terrible, either. I'd suggest shopping around still, some of the variations of the VF-19 (in particular the blue ones) can be pretty cheap. No. The Yamato YF-19, by comparison to the VF-19, is an older design. Fiddly, light, and outclassed by the (admittedly more expensive) Arcadia YF-19. If you're looking for a Yamato 19 and don't care which color it is, get one of the VF's like you linked above. Absolutely not. Stay away from any VF-0's No, see above.
Skip the VF-0A/S for now. Arcadia is making new versions of both with Shin's VF-0A planned for release in summer. Sculpt and silhouette is very similar to that of Yamato's but possibly an all new mold, as many of the parts that should've been diecast metal, are now. In addition some of the connection points and other parts are now made of POM so it should be a much more sturdy release.
Like David said, better stick with the VF-1(v2) and VF-11 if you want stability in Battroid-mode and other modes. The early VF-19 series was reported to have developed some loose-ankles/stability issues in battroid and gerwalk modes. Not sure which one has it corrected, if at all. The YF-19v1 is a bit loosey on alot of stuff. You can most likely remedy some of the looseness with Future wax/polish. The YF-19v2 (arcadia) has the same ankle-joints/design as the VF-19, so watch out for developing loosey ankles. The VF-0S is stable in battroid-mode, but loosey on fighter-mode. Also, watch out for exploding shoulders (prevalent on VF-0A). edit: here's some old 1/60v2 Yammie battroid-pics for you: VF-1S (tv) and VF-11: VF-1 (J/A) (tv): Strike-VF-1S Hikaru (DYRL):
I'm just waiting to see "first in-hand pics" before I actually cancel my order. (for being the completely wrong colors)
