VF25S renewal FINALLY landed in the UK. Shipped on the 25th of November, SAL, got my pick up notice today.

Will have him in hand tomorrow, but the excitement has totally worn over.

Do you happen to have a pic of the RD to compare in height with a 1/60 valk?

It's pretty tiny compared to a 1/60. It's roughly half the height of a VF-25.

I'll take a pic if I have time tonight.

It's only 12.5cm tall (just under 5 inches). Probably why they couldn't sell it.

This is a great little toy. I don't have a photo with a 1/60 since it looks puny but with the Hi-Metal scale it is nice.

Both my Klan-Klang RD and my 1/60 valks are currently boxed up in storage, but I do have an old pic of the RD with these 1/60 ...

Prolly messed up your height-query, tho.

    :D

thanks for all the comparison pics. Yeah they do look tiny next to something that's 1/60. But with the 1/100 Hi-metal, it actually looks pretty good. I ended up ordering it, so now just have to wait for Bandai to relaunch their hi-metal line.

So...my VF25S renewal yesterday, and I am not sure how I feel about it.

It looks great, but it's a lot more fiddly than I expected. The neck/collar/shoulders/backpack area is unable to lock/get in place as well as I'd like.

Does the nosecone indent/neck platform lock at any place?? Seems a bit too wobbly for me.

Looks killer once you get to pose the battroid mode, but the overall torso wobbliness is not something I'm liking.

Any ideas? Or is this how it just stands?

In the upper torso area there is no locking point. With all my Frontier Valkyries the joints in the torso are stiff enough to hold it in position.

I think the only advice I can give you is to clamp the nosecone area between chest armor, the neck area and the backpack. There is a specific way where everything lines up nicely. So the chest armor should sit flush with the front side of nosecone. Try to get the best out of the four joints (two on each side) in the chest/shoulder/backpack area.

Make also sure that the neck plate is extended all the way and check out some pictures and video reviews to know if yours looks different.

However be careful because you could damage the paint job in this area. Not sure if the VF-25S has paint in that area.

Fiddled with it a tad more and I got it to work a bit better. Still unsure how I feel about it, but I like it a lot more than I did yesterday.

Sadly this feels...minimal? After the glorious VF19 all macross releases I'm getting just feel like a step down.

Be careful with the cockpit hinge. On mine it was terribly hard to get out and I think some had it glued shut if I remember correctly.

The VF17 is a nice collector's item, too bad I could not enjoy mine at all.

It's got heft, I'll give you that. Lots of metal. Thick, strong, pointy plastic, has quite a presence on the shelf.

Unfortunately for me the battroid mode left me wanting more.

i'm rather thinking this -17S' BATTROID cuts a singularly imposing image, but YMMV.

to date, my VF-19S has been through probably 200 transformation cycles by now, with strikingly little wear and tear to show for it.

i'm more than sold on these late YAMATO M7 offerings; if all of them are like the 19S, -which they certainly appear to be-
then they literally are the perfect marriage of 1970's/1980's build quality and 21st century engineering. just about the finest transforming Mecha toys ever conceived, AFAIAC...

Hmmm, don't be so sure of it. I thought of exactly the same and was proven wrong when I had it in hand.

The VF19 utilizes a unique [due to its design] method of transformation which means that everything on it locks securely for battroid and all limbs and the head have uninhibited freedom of motion---the legs use those tiny tabs to lock the metal hinges further up, main body collapses together in one etc.

The VF17 has the traditional metal ball joint hips and very long legs, the elbows are restricted by the panel from the back of the shoulder and the backpack just rests on a joint similar to the one from the YF21.

Don't get me wrong, it's not a bad toy, but it's not a VF19 either. To this day the VF19 is still my favourite Yamato, no, Macross offering.

The Bandai 1/65 VF-17S and D still look pretty good in Battroid mode.

I would say a Yamato SDF-1 and a VF-11B/C. Those are the two molds I'm missing severely in my collection. :)
