Here's an update on my Minifig scale RX-78-2 Gundam. I wasn't satisfied with the level of detail I was achieving at Microfig scale so I just scrapped that one. This one is feeling really good so far, and it's a scale that hasn't really been done before so I don't feel like I'm copying anyone's work. Feet are completely done, ankles have side-to-side pivot. Hip sections were tough but I think this will hold up since it's entirely done up with Technic and Constraction pieces. I'm working on some ideas for the double jointed knees I want to build. Since Lego ratchet joints have so few teeth and are thus rather limiting, my goal is to only use them in the shoulders. Every other load bearing joint has the space to double or triple up ball joints which should give them enough strength to hold a pose. For the shoulder ratchets, I'll be using the heavy duty ratchets that were used for Optimus Prime's hips, so should be plenty of strength to hold up the arm in any position. I want it to be very poseable for such a large figure. I even plan to attempt to work in butterfly joints in the shoulders so he can fold his arm across his chest. The only limiting factor will be the ankles, which only move side-to-side, and not a lot at that, but it has triple ball joints, each with a Constraction friction extender. I feel the ankle is the absolute most important articulation point to be sturdy on something as large and fragile as a Lego figure of this size. Once I start to build this monster in person, I want it to have no chance of toppling over forwards or backwards lol Again, I apologize for the low quality of all my screenshots, which is made even worse with a build this large. I need to try and see if there's some way I can capture a higher quality screenshot
Large Minifig scaled figs are challenging, especially if you intend to imbue them with articulation. I wish you every success with the endeavor and anticipate seeing the final model.
You know what would be even cooler? If you could scan the blind box in the store and it would give you the instructions for the set inside. I also support this for the CMF.
Oh sweet! My son got the Mustang for Christmas and loved it. I didn't know they made any others of these until now. I hope they continue this line.
Dang, are we going to get another giant Ninjago modular every couple years?? I'm not complaining; I certainly don't have funds or space for all of them, but always excited to see a new one!
I’d feel for the little radio. Pretty sure that’s the easiest thing to feel in the bag. I found the Space duo, 2 Falconers and one orc at retail when they first came out. After more trips couldn’t find orcs anywhere so I bought 6 off of someone on Facebook.
I still haven’t seen either Minifig Series 23 or 24 in stores. :/ Luckily I was able to get them all off Amazon (lucked out and got two complete sets each time) but I’m still hoping I see 24 on shelves as I’d like to pick up a few extras… definitely want another Falconer to put with my Castle stuff, another spaceman or two, and another Carrot Guy for my kid (who for some reason loves that one).
