Bonkles back... Back again... I just wish this wasn't locked behind having to buy $100 in other sets. I could see "Mixonicle" as a good way to bring Bionicle back since Lego doesn't seem to have faith in Constraction anymore. I like this more than those minifig ideas that were often tossed around.
But that's not true. Yes comics have tackled social issues, but claiming they've haven't "ever been anything but" is disingenuous. Again, just because the practice was present in the medium doesn't mean it dominated it. And until it became as pervasive as it is you saw little resistance to it. In fact it was often met with praise. Watchmen is nothing but political and social commentary and it's still one of the most acclaimed works in the medium. But the way social issues are discussed and permeated is new. The way people have access to discussions they themselves can take part in is new. Sensibilities and writing standards change. Like I said, what was once novel is now the norm, and what was once groundbreaking is now uninspired. It's not that these conversations can't happen or aren't allowed, but people's diet for them has changed along with the landscape they exist in. It's like how death in comics became a gimmick, then entirely desensitized, until people got sick of it. Books with high body counts weren't shocking or thrilling anymore, they were juvenile, exacerbated by media's growing depiction of it in other forms like movies, television, and games. It doesn't mean death doesn't have a place in the comics medium or that it was never present at all, but it's no longer the revolutionary concept. If Batman (the character, not the dude who started this discussion lol) died tomorrow would anyone care? He's "died" like a million times by now.
Fair enough. I'm not attempting to insight heated arguments so much as offer my fence-sitting perspective. I'm not personally wooed in either direction, but nevertheless interested in the conversation. EDIT: And probably not the best topic for a Lego thread anyway.
Totally fair I just don't want to drag out an off topic debate and end up with a bunch of deleted posts haha It thread relevant news, my gf got the Christmas Carol moments set for Christmas and is thinking about swapping the mini figures for Muppets to turn it into a Muppets Christmas Carol set which I think would be a super cute idea.
My Sanctum, Daffodils, and Blacktron GWP arrived today plus I had forgotten about the new minifigs releasing on the first but found them at the “off the beaten path” Walmart near me. My one Lego day until next month when I get the new botanical stuff.
I’m not trying to get into an argument with anyone about comics or politics, I really don’t care. I’m glad you like what they are doing with the characters and are happy with the direction the stories are going. Something for everyone and that’s awesome. The only point I was trying to make was DC is a mess all across the board at this current moment in time and because of this, I feel like that has something to do with the lack of sets in the DC theme. That’s it. Maybe I’m wrong, I don’t work for either company and don’t know so it doesn’t really matter. I’m thankful that I have any DC sets at all. I just wish we had more DC LEGO.
I've learned to be patient, they always end up on sale 20% off or more. But it will be some time before that happens, so if you want them sooner you just have to pay, and/or save your receipts for the eventual sale and buy/return.
Except now they're going to get discounted to $20 instead of $16. I might cave and buy them all some double points weekend, or I might wait until they're discounted to the 'normal' $20.
LEGO Ideas 50 Years of Dungeons & Dragons Winner Announced - The Brick Fan They picked a good one from this. @Raiju
Indeed they did! https://ideas.lego.com/s/bp:3e909798eb904c84811b1b4c2bfaf902 I voted for Dragon's Keep since I felt it best represented a minifigure scale playset that could fit in very well with Castle and Kingdom sets. Looking forward to seeing the final product from LEGO!
I like it more as a Castle set than a DnD set. Color me disappointed the community didn't vote for a modular set that fans could game with.
I’m not a D&D guy (nothing against it, just never played it myself) but I am a Lego Castle guy, so I’m pretty happy with this just from that standpoint. This’ll look great alongside other Castle stuff.
You and me both. Same here. The only D&D things I want this year are the Beholder and Owlbear Dicelings from the new movie. The Castle fan in me is happy that this set will exist officially.
