Opened my Christmas present (from myself) and built it. Took me roughly six hours. The background portion felt like forever. Messed up the frame portion a few times. Just noticed I made a mistake...lemme go fix it.
Hello there. I hope you all had a Merry Christmas, because I sure did... I am now the proud owner of Lego Optimus prime! It's the largest set I own, usurping Kylo Ren's a shuttle. I enjoyed the build, and I'm a big fan of the end result. This is my first foray into the 18+ aspect of Lego. I really like the accessories, especially the blaster. the build itself is very hefty, and, while fragile, incredible in it's detail and care. The unfortunate lack of knees sucks, as I think Lego does have parts in their inventory that would allow for strong knees, though it would probably sacrifice the clean look of the legs. I'm planning to do some modding to the head to make it a little bit better, but the stock head itself is still pretty good in my opinion. Anyway enjoy some photos!
I never understood why LEGO didn’t/hasn’t done more with the license. It’s a shame we never got any Ghostbusters 2 or The Real Ghostbusters sets. Playmobil nailed it IMO.
Agreed. While I have the original Lego Ideas Ghostbusters Ecto-1, Firehouse, and some of the Dimensions sets (like Peter Venkman but I missed out on Slimer and Stay Puft Marshmallow Man but I did put together two of the demon dogs following their instructions and using my own parts), I want an official Gozer the Gozarian minifigure and final battle at her temple set along with a huge brickbuilt Stay Puft. A giant articulated Statue of Liberty that can fit all four Busters in the crown is probably asking a bit too much though.
The Ghostbusters HQ is my second favourite LEGO set of all time (first being the Ewok Village, interestingly both designed by the same guy). Statue of Liberty would be awesome, or a museum with Vigo. I’d love to get some Real Ghostbusters sets too. Characters like Boogieman, Sandman and Samhain (they already have a pumpkin head mold). It would be cool to get their gear in blue too. I’m hoping one day. Lots of untapped potential.
LEGO Collectible Minifigures Series 24 (71037) Review - The Brick Fan LEGO Blacktron Returns in 2023 with Blacktron Cruiser (40580) GWP - The Brick Fan
Not sure I have ever been all in on one of the core CMF waves (did go all in on the TLM and DC stuff) but I basically am this time. The big orc jaw is not the image of orcs I have in my head but hey maybe I could leave the jaw off? Either that or pretend it is a small troll, certainly reminds me of that old fantasy bigfig. Blacktron set is looking nice, might bricklink it if the GWP is too rich for my tastes, which it probably will be considering recent ones have been.
almost bought that set 4 times in the last 4 days… need it but don’t have space…. anyway built this with my son today.
I'm looking forward to the Blacktron set! Looks cool! I hope they make more Space theme stuff! My fave!
I saw this annoucement this morning that it's slated as a "2023 gift with purchase." Now if only they'd keep going by upgrading/updating the Blacktron 2 sets like the Allied Avenger.
Tiago (former Lego designer turned YouTube Lego reviewer) reported that the new Avatar (wave 2) sets switched over to numbered paper bags too for parts (changed from clear plastic). A slight inconvenience for those AFOLs (myself included) who tend to raid their official sets looking for specific parts to use in MOCs.
Remember when LEGO Dimensions did a Sonic the Hedgehog Level Pack years ago, followed by a LEGO Ideas set based on Green Hill Zone? Well, Sonic’s reportedly getting his own LEGO theme codenamed Lemon. Source: LEGO Sonic the Hedgehog Themenwelt erscheint im August 2023
This morning, I built the zurg battle set. I liked it overall, but I still felt it left things to be desired, and could be way better if it wasn't zurg. Insert this evening, where i changed the chest to be more broken up, I changed the one dimensional nature of the back, I added some detail and car tires, and I gave it a new head. This is now a generic decepticon whom I have yet to give a name.
My planned first 2023 buy, 31208 Hokusai The Great Wave. Perfect addition to my The Starry Night. Might swap out the wooden frame with a black frame to match the rest of my wall decors. Where's the best place to get the individual pieces? Does the Lego brick-and-mortor store have?
I recommend Radial. Yes, they have the Pick-A-Brick wall filled with individual parts sorted by color. New GWP available on January 1:
What an awesome little house, and what great little $10 sets a whole series of these would make. Instead they're GWPs behind a $200-or-whatever paywall. That's just sad, Lego.
