If anyone is interested in the BrickLink Designer Program, Lego made an official announcement about it today. LEGO Announces First Crowdfunding Round for BrickLink Designer Program - The Brick Fan Key things to note: First round crowdfunding officially opens on July 1st at 3:00pm ‘UTC / 5:00pm CET / 8:00am PST. The first five projects to reach the goal of 3,000 pre-orders will be produced as a limited edition set. Up to 5,000 of each will be produced based on pre-orders received from registered BrickLink members. So, if there are any you are eyeing best to order sooner than later to 1) increase the odds that your pick will reach 3,000 first and 2) make sure you get one before it reaches 5,000. I have no idea how popular these will be but 5,000 doesn't sound like a ton to me.
Prices haven't been announced for these yet, have they? I'm terrified of how much they'll be compared to a normal lego set the same size. I like the castle... but I also like the newer castle by the same builder (currently in review on Ideas) a lot more: The Castle of Brickwood Forest Undecided about this one. I want the figures and I really like the ship design, but the overall set doesn't look impressive enough for the price. Might wait for a sale.
Nice, Moff Gideon's Arquitens class Imperial cruiser does have a usable interior, which was what I was looking forward to. Disappointed that the Darksaber is just a black rod piece in a normal hilt piece but BrickArms makes a custom molded Darksaber that fits the bill. Boba Fett looks great. The Slave 1 being smaller and cheaper is decent enough, similar to the shrunken down X-Wing and TIE Fighter.
You know, back in 2019 BrickLink did a similar program (before being acquired by LEGO, but in partnership with them I believe) and I bought a couple of them. As I recall the prices were not really different from equivalent Lego sets - e.g., a set around 2,000 pieces was around $200, give or take. OK so I just looked them up - Science Tower was 1,205 pieces and $130, and Lowenstein Castle was 2,002 parts and $200 (currently selling around $600+ on Bricklink, wow!). If you're on the fence better to buy now, they will be easy to sell a couple of years from now if you change your mind.
There are already more sets I want this year than I can ever remember before, what with Ninjago Gardens, Daily Bugle, Blacksmith, Space Shuttle, new Clone Wars sets... not sure my wallet could survive if I add Bricklink sets to the list as well, haha. But I'll keep an eye on the crowdfunding. Speaking of Lego's biggest year ever, what are people hoping/expecting to see at the Con tomorrow? Anything noteworthy besides the Gunship? (At least it better be the Gunship if Lego is smart; no better time to reveal it.) Maybe the Titanic or some other late-year stuff?
I really hope the Bricklink Program sets aren't too expensive, as I would love to support the Bionicle project but there's only so much I can allow myself to spend on Lego.
Friendly reminder that LEGO Con starts at 9AM Pacific/12PM Eastern. Get ready to tune in for it in less than 4 hours! LEGO® CON 2021 | Watch LIVE | Official LEGO
I can’t tune in, but I’m definitely looking forward to their reveals - hoping to see the republic Gunship or AT-AT, Home Alone house, the globe, and welcome other surprises that might be in store
