We had baby # 2 this year so had to clear out the spare room (AKA my toy room) to make it into her bedroom. Sold off a bunch of stuff for space but wish I kept Voltron. I break them down when selling. Makes it easier when shipping.
Hubby bought me this a few weeks ago. I loved the build, and I love the play-potential, but the size of the modules makes it a pain in the ass to actually "play" with.
LEGO has announced they are taking a look at possibly cancelling the Technic V-22 Osprey due to complaints that it is a military vehicle.
People will complain about anything. Just look at the reaction when the set was released. People who hate military vehicles complained (such as the German Peace Society which condemned LEGO), and people who love military vehicles voiced that LEGO is hypocritical and has no standards. I thought that no weapons would be reason enough to keep this set on shelves. Lego has done various VTOL/Osprey type aircraft in City, Creator, and Technic. The only "issue" here is that this set is licensed. Due to the less-than-positive reaction to the Osprey I would almost guarantee we're not getting any modern military vehicles.
I can´t recommend Cobi enough. Better, cheaper and way less anal about military sets (which are in facts their main selling point) than Lego. I have around 50 tanks and the Bismark and they are amazing sets. Even their minifigs are better articulated than lego ones. Currently building the Thor 60cm Heavy Mortar and it´s an amazing fun build.
Very odd circumstances, if true. If it does get cancelled, I wonder what this would mean for Brickmania's brick built Osprey? I hope they'll be able to get the license from Bell instead. Would love to get a chance to buy it, personally speaking. I have no interest in the politics behind the company scenes. It's above my pay grade, as the saying goes. Whatever happens, happens.
Brickmania should be fine because they exclusively make military vehicles, and they're basically a 3rd party company rather than Lego proper.
Lego has specifically chosen not to do military vehicles in official sets. That's their choice as a private company. It has nothing to do with the quality of their product, which in my experience is second-to-none. I've never found an alternate brand with the level of precision and consistency as Lego bricks. So saying something is "better" just because they build something that Lego has chosen not to, doesn't equate to better, in my opinion. The great part of a sophisticated interlocking brick system like Lego is that you can make whatever you want - you always have the choice of taking those pieces and building your own designs using their quality parts, even military vehicles if that is your desire. Or if you are not a great designer, others have done it for you, like the King Tiger to use your example.
The proportions of that King Tiger look really odd when compared to the Cobi one COBI SD.KFZ. 182 Konigstiger King Tiger II P: Set #2480A — buildCOBI.com Cobi Building Sets while not costing an arm and a leg in terms of price. Lego are good to add details to the Cobi tanks such as tool boxes, cable links, lights, jerrycans and what not. Their new one looks better too: Pin on New Cobi Sets and Pre Orders since it adds a more real looking muzzle break and 3 tone cammo scheme.
Word on the street is that the Downtown Diner, Taj Mahal, and Ideas Treehouse will be retired this year. The problem is that they've all been "temporarily out of stock" online - will they even re-stock before they are officially retired? I picked up what appears to be the last Diner from Target online, but I still need to get that Treehouse which has been out for less than a year. https://www.thebrickfan.com/rumored-lego-direct-to-consumer-sets-retiring-in-2020/
Entertainment Earth has it as restocking soon. Might be a good chance to get with free shipping. LEGO 21318 Ideas Tree House - Entertainment Earth
