Somewhat difficult question to answer as I'm already an adult, but I remember after buying Planet X's Triton (the third party FOC Paddles) thinking "yeah, I can't keep doing this" in terms of the expense, the space it all takes up, and transformations/figures I'm not really all that into.

I believe it was my G1 gold box Sunstreaker from Cyprus in 1990. The very one in these pics actually...

G2 Laser Optimus Prime. Found him on sale few years after high school and couldn't turn down a Prime with articulation. I still have him and found RID Scourge to go with him last year.

Hmm... I believe my final 'childhood' figure was either BW Quickstrike or Transmetal (1) Cheetor. I know that I didn't own any figures beyond 1998 until I got into the collecting game a few years ago.

Although, 'before growing up'? Ain't happenin', man. I think I've missed that boat. XD

I stopped very early 1989, when I was 8 the last I remember buying were the Micromasters. But I think one of my last ones was Galvatron in the Bargin bin at Argos. Hindsights a killer imagine buying all the G1 ones up then.
The reason I stopped was really I just wanted a change, and newer Transformers were getting more and more plasticy.

Oh good topic... My final figures before quitting buying toys were Pretender Grimlock, Jazz, Bumblebee and Starscream. I bought all four at once and that was it for many years for me.

I recently sold three of them MIB and kept my favourite, Bumblebee.

I recently popped a more modern figure inside of the shell... Kinda ;)

    Beast Wars Scorponok.

It's weird, because prior to that my last one was some G2 stuff in 1993 and early 1994 and for some reason I bought this one random Beast Wars toy as a 14 year old a couple years later. To this day it's the only Beast Wars toy I have ever owned (well, I also acquired a Happy Meal Under-3 last year haha). The next Transformer I would acquire would be in 2007.

Growing old is mandatory, growing up in optional.
I never grew out of Transformers, even for the few years their was nothing new, I still had my originals to keep me company. Usually, they had adventures with the Joes since I had more of them at that point (more stuff available, easier to get figures). My current headcannon started when I started buying G1 figures online in the early days of alt.toys.transformers and ebay. Specifically when I finally got Hot Rod for the first time (never had him as a kid, even though he was my favorite character, impossible to find where we lived for some reason, both regular and TM) and has continued since then and includes every series from then until now in some way (in my head Megatron returned and changed his ways 15 years before IDW did it).

Action Master Grimlock. But it less 'growing up' and more that Transformers had died in the UK.

I distinctly remember that my last Transformer toy I got a a kid was Actionmaster Soundwave. Then I moved onto video games and skateboarding. My TF hiatus only lasted until G2 came out and I instantly bought Grimlock and Sideswipe, as these were 2 figures I had wanted as a kid but never got. I guess that was the point you could say I became a "collector".

Man, I wish those gold box "reissues" had been available in the US at that time.

    It didn't die online though.

After G1, I first looked up TFs back in university. I watched this flash animation about Spike visiting autobot graves. Maybe it even had a link to TFW back then and I read about Car Robots and it got me hyped up especially how disappointing BW was.

A few years later, I visited TRU, only to find odd looking cheap plastic robots but among them was a Silver Subaru.

Edit; Tried finding that flash animation and I think that huge flash animation website is dead. It had a logo of a cartoon tank.

    Found it:

    Heroes of Cybertron

Hmm, I dont remember my last, but I can remember my first. When I was 5, me and my brother went to Toys R Us after just seeing the Transformers 2007 movie. I bought Fast Action Battler Bumblebee, and he got Barricade. Im trying to remember what my last would've been... Probably something from Revenge of the Fallen.

Pretty sure it was Actionmaster Shockwave when I was 10. I think he came with some vehicle?

I never made that transition. I was still a kid when I considered myself a collector. I remember walking down the toy aisles at age 9 or so and feeling embarrassed for looking at animated stuff because I was too old for toys (Ha! That's gold, in retrospect) but I think the first iteration of Generations was the last time I really had toys bought for that weren't a gift. Which would probably be Warpath or Kup. After that period, I started getting allowance money and didn't collect much of anything from DOTM until Prime started, and all those were payed for with my own allowance money.
