There is not enough content to make that happen. Spoiler the only thing they can add that was deleted from the game was Joel’s having girlfriend who gets infected but that will be very morbid to then have Joel die moments later. I think the split will be a hard choice. The only way I see it is they go like the game and have the split happen in the theater with Abby being the lead for the first half of Season 2 Part B.
That last episode was certainly a masterclass in trolling feelings and making us feel conflicted. Sure some might consider it a happy ending as the characters we are most emotionally invested in survived but what's left of them is just saddening and horrific. The action and spectacle cleverly subverted the usual types of audience reaction by making us feel a bit appalled by just how selfish a certain characters violence and lies have become. The show seems to be asking some interesting questions around whether people's desire to nurture, parent and protect those they care about is necessarily always a good thing. The events of the first episode may have doomed the whole of humanity to extinction and suffering in more ways than one. Season 2 will likely have to work a lot harder to impress us but for now I would say this tops the Netflix Castevsnia adaptation for being the best genuinely good video game adaptation though of course I do also like some of the trash adaptations like street fighter.
I haven't played the game and have mostly avoided spoilers; although I heard enough to more or less guess what was going to happen in S1 finale. Agree with others that the show is just a tad light on the "zombies", but it seems to me one of the key ideas of the show is that it's really up to humans not Cordyceps if humanity is going to survive. So focusing on humans makes sense.
...I love how everyone but Ellie had a say in how things snowballed into the fallout that's coming next series.
All right, so we spent the evening watching episodes 6-9 and outside of them skimping really hard on the infected, the show was damn good!!! It was pretty cool to see Troy Baker play one of the cannibals and Ellie get her shining moment with David. I loved the way they did the Left Behind story even though, again, they cut back to only have there be one infected, which sucked, but it worked for what it was. It did make me miss the malls we had in the 90s and early 2000s before they all went to hell. Actually, it's amazing how post-apocalyptic many malls look today without there being an actual apocalypse. Ending was just like the video game too.

Great Actress. Funny thing is she was my pick for Ellie back when it was going to be a movie. Best wishes to her though it’s going to be a hard role to deal with on and off camera.
So will they have to cgi Abby to muscle her up or will they make the actress go on a steroid and workout regimen?
