    Wait, what?

I love blockbusters, it's just that I'm tired of them because they aren't giving me anything different lately. I'm really looking forward to Dawn of the Planet of the Apes and I loved X-Men DoFP, Capt Am 2, and Godzilla. However, I've already seen Bayformers three times before. I don't need to see it again. I'm looking for something new. I want things that are going to be 90% practical effects and only use CGI when it is most necessary. I want something that is explosive but also full of character development and has a great story to go with it. I also want something that is brand new, not just another sequel, remake, book adaptation, or reboot.

That is why lately I am going to older movies. That is why I am on this Film Noir kick. It is something different to me. Movies like Touch of Evil and Double Indemnity were down right incredible and felt fresh. It is why I just recently rewatched Alien and Aliens. Why I am currently rewatch Gargoyles. Why I was in a John Carpenter kick back in Oct.

I spent nearly the last 15 years of my life wanting nothing but explosions and high death counts. Now I'm tired of it and want more out of my entertainment.

As for AoE, well, it has a 17% on Rottentomatoes...

It really has to be seen to be believed. It goes beyond "good" or "bad" and truly transcends all of cinema.

Transformers: Age of Extinction - 7/10

Just got back from watching Transformers: Age of Extinction.

Some areas of the film have improvements over the previous entries, the human characters are a bit better than the previous cast. Stanley Tucci is about the best, and actually has a pretty good character arc. Kelsey Grammer is pretty good, Mark Whalberg is just ok. The new autobots and new villains are pretty good. The Michael Bay humor is still present, but more restrained and less obnoxious than usual.

Problems with the film? Yes there is, it's way too long, and by the time it got to the action set pieces at the end I was already pretty drained. The dinobots don't have enough screentime.

Overall if you enjoyed at least one or two of the previous films you might like it, but this movie won't be winning over anyone that hated the first three movies.

    Transformers 2007

Great when I first saw it, really dragged out on a rewatch. It was boring at parts. Did we need Sam running from dogs? Movie's a bit long, great parts in it though. Has the typical incoherent final battle these movies have become known for. 10/10

    Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen

I like this more than 07. Instead of the lame, junky humor from the first film, we get really weird shit like hot girl turning into a killer robot. And John Turturro's ass. And Jetfire farts parachutes. And Jolt shows up from nowhere to save the day. lol Like, what is going on!?
I like that it goes more into TF lore than the other films and that here the robots are at their most abundant and colorful. Jetfire > All other movie Autobots

    10/10

    Transformers: Dark of the Moon

It was okay. Sam is a prick in the first half, but it's okay because it turns out Decepticons. It feels like the robots got less screentime than the last two movies. Sentinel could have been really cool, but he's reduced to gloating while doomsday device takes 6 hours to charge. In the meantime, we get John Malkovich acting like a dog in front of Bumblebee. And a standoff in a Russian bar. And Jerry Wang. 10/10

Frankly, I'm a little sad to hear Age of Extinction tones down the humor. I thought it really made the human parts more bearable. I'll take "WTF" over boring. "STOP SPENDING MONEY DAD" "BUT COLLEGE SWEET PEA"

Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan 9/10
Being familiar with the "big thing" that happens in this film had already kind of had me rolling my eyes at Into Darkness because of how blatant the pandering was, but now, having seen the film, Into Darkness gets even worse in retrospect. Not from a fanboy perspective, just, as a movie, Wrath of Khan is categorically better than Into Darkness. Better drawn characters, a more cohesive plot, and most of all, more genuine emotion in That Scene Everyone Knows About. It's certainly a bit dated in places, and Shatner's got some flat line deliveries, surprising no one, but overall, it's just a damn good science fiction film. Not to mention, what surprised me the most is that Shatner actually delivers where it counts. Especially after seeing some of his acting in the actual original series, I was not expecting much from him, but he actually pulls off the big emotional beats.

I feel betrayed. After 3 years of waiting and keeping track of the filming every single day... for this?

length is the main thing. Plot is much better, characterization is amazingly better, actors are better. oh, and they actually give a crap about setting up stories for the sequel.
