someone really needs to watch Safe. or Hummingbird, if one thinks that Statham movies do not have depth and subtlety.

The Bank Job is pretty good too. Lock, Stock though, that's where he's at his most charming and personable.

Yeah, he's Murphy's black best friend in the new one and he does almost nothing the whole movie.

Will do, along with the movies Gordon mentioned. I like him, I just always see him scowling, shooting a gun while driving a car whenever I think of him off the top of my head and immediately typecast him and generalize his movies. I think Van Damme and I immediately think "dead best friend, must enter tournament for revenge by kicking."

Also, worth noting, new Robocop is leagues above new Total Recall.

when i think Van Damme I think Vilain. and van damme coming up with his own villain name. and now arnold is hitting himself, for not coming up with the name Herro. :lol

i think the character Lewis was made a male, in order to avoid a love triangle, considering in this one, he is conscious, *for most of it.* and still technically married.

    The Monuments Men 5/10

A bit dull. Nothing interesting ever really happened and their was no depth to the characters. There is no excuse for that with the caliber of cast members this film had.

Black Orpheus (Orfeu Negro) - 2/10

This was recommended to me by my girlfriend. She was listening to my Days of Being Wild OST and said Jungle Drums reminded her of Black Orpheus. For a young girl like her, she watches waaaaay to many old movies. :rolleyes2

The film starts off interesting enough seeing life in 1950s Rio de Janeiro on the eve of the Carnival, but once we met the main characters things get pretty bland and idiotic. Orpheus doesn't care much for being engaged to his fiancee Mira, and instead becomes smitten by a visiting woman; the innocent, scarf wearing, virgin-like Eurydice, whom almost every man in Rio starts fancying on as soon as she gets off the boat and on the streets (so like my gf :redface2: ). They fall in love, and every friend and relative is supportive of Orpheus's new love and they all go out of their way to help Orpheus get rid of the crazy old hag Mira (LOL, WTF?! Some friends and family they are! :lol ).
From there, the romantic tragedy cliches keep streaming in until the end. Finally there's that WTF portion near the end when Orpheus tries to find Eurydice and enters a thirteen floor building to find her, but meets a cryptic custodian that leads him to a downward spiraling stairs, and then to a gate with 'Cereberus' guarding, and then arriving at a voodoo house to communicate with her.

One major annoying plot hole is the purpose of the cheesy-looking, lanky skeleton costume guy. He's been following Eurydice before the story begins and wants to kill her, but they never explain who is he and why he wants to kill her. While the skeleton dude is suppose to be the creepy, scary antagonist, he gives off too much humor every time he shows up in a scene: jumping into a hole to take a shortcut while he is DIRECTLY BEHIND Eurydice; posed Spider-Man style at the Carnival looking for his prey; riding the side of an ambulance when finishing his job.
The film has potential, but the characters and the plot falls hard real flat.

    Bend it like Beckham 9/10

This is a nice film, very funny at times and also very sweet. Examines a bit of culture clash but doesn't belabour it so that it's obnoxious or anything.

I've heard this before, and I have no idea where it comes from. Nothing about those scenes (the worst part of the movie IMO) have any resemblance to Bill O'Reilly as far as I could tell. The comparison makes no sense to me.

I don't understand that comparison either. Jackson's character's viewpoints are in no way like what Bill O'Reilly's actually are. I'm guessing it just comes from the misconception that Bill yells all the time.

Oh, I absolutely see it. He was belligerent, loud mouthed, foul mouthed, closeminded, doesn't listen to other opinions, pretty much the exact likeness of Bill O'Reilly. I also found it hilarious.

    Speaking of...

    Robocop (2014) 9/10:

What an absolutely GREAT time. It was funny, it had great action, I thought the performances were top notch, and the special effects were nice and realistic without being over the top. And speaking of Samuel L. Jackson's character/sequences, I thought the satire in this film was handled better than in the original film. Because it skewered the news channels/information sources, it made fun of TV show hosts (who are jokes themselves) and it made a legitimate point that everyone basically crapped all over (the not wanting empty robots being police and soldiers), just like the real world.

Also, it was a bit more hopeful than the original. (I realize that's not what the original aimed for, and that's fine for that age.) No gore (and Murphy's sequences weren't gory. I've seen worse on an episode of House.) no sex, no harsh language (although how it was bleeped out was hilarious, also something O'Reilly has done in the past...) and it was accessible to EVERYone. I think that works better, considering there are toys tied into it.

I still can't wrap my head around the fact that there were toys for Terminator 2, Robocop, Aliens, all of which were NEVER, EVER for kids. This is finally a movie with a toy tie in that they could watch. I liked that. It had enough darkness to keep it serious, but enough lightheartedness to keep it from being horrible.

I knocked it down two .5s to 9 out of 10 for the following:

1.) The moment where Murphy overrides his programming to solve his murder, where the memory of his son shakes him awake, so to speak, I thought it was a bit rushed. I was hoping for a bit more of an internal struggle, kinda like when Murphy punched the monitor in the original.

2.) The Boddicker type villain? Literally no time together. To go after him like a big bad and really have no interaction, I thought they dropped the ball there, too.

Those are forgivable though. It was really quite good. While the original is a classic and will always hold a spot near and dear to my heart, and it does a few things better than the remake, I still have to say I prefer the remake. I thought it was that good.

    I do recommend it.

Well looks like I'm going to be THAT guy

    The LEGO movie - 7/10

It was ok. Few funny jokes nothing knee-slapping hilarious, few funny cameos, nice parody of the "Hero with a 1000 faces" and modern block-busters in general, good animation....but I just don't get the euphoria behind it. It wasn't THAT good.

I'm glad I saw it was fun but it's far from being the second coming of movie Christ the way people are describing it to be. Highly overrated in my mind but a fun way to spend the afternoon.

Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom.

0/10. It's as bad as I remeber. I realize now that the franchise never "really" recovered from this ill-advised disaster. And this has got to be the worst big-budget action/adventure movie of its time.
