Oh, for sure... the oversized WJ stuff (like those Throttlebots) are exceptionally sturdy for the market and the price range. I place them at the top of the ladder in terms of KO robots "priced for retail" (as opposed to the more expensive stuff directly aimed at collectors). The NBK sets don't really compete with WeiJiang or KBB stuff, but I think they're still on the higher end in terms of value-for-money.

KO collecting really changed maybe 10 years ago, thanks to companies like WJ and KBB. I still remember the dodgy days when CHMS Seekers, Happywell figures, oversized Robotmasters molds, and those brittle Cybertron Starscream copies were the better KOs out there. The idea that a KO might actually be BETTER than the original wasn't even in the cards back then. :lol

I suspect that one of the things that make the Weijiang figures feel so "tough" is the up-sizing. They tend to enlarge the figures without making the plastic any thinner to compensate... so the resulting figures tend to have really thick plastic parts.

I think it's also due to the problems of the official market; higher plastic, less kids, etc has meant smaller official toys and/or ones they are hollow or more expensive than before. This has meant that the KO companies can, with a bit of work, more easily make "better" products than official ones, and there's a market due to official figures being seen as becoming increasingly expensive.

KBB make a bunch of stuff to be sold to kids that is a heck of a lot better quality than the Oversize Toyworld Throttlebots - which are kinda thin and light and the plastic is quite airated. I'd even say they oversize Dinobots are better quality.

I like the Throttlebots just fine (I have two sets of them and the spare colours as well) but they are not top-top end in terms of retail - sure they are amazing compared to the shampoo bottle stuff - but to use another example the Wei Jiang's KO AOE Dinobots are much better in terms of material quality.

I recall actually comparing the Throttlebots to the NBK stuff when the NBK stuff was released as the plastic is around the same standard. if anything the NBK plastic is less airated & less glossy. The Throttlebot Freeway/Highway in particular feels really cheap. You don't really notice if you keep them combined though.

I know some people like to pick on NBK - but I will defend them this much - some of their design changes actually improve on the orignal as well as other that simplify on it. JinBao is the same - they had a couple of minor simplifications - but they also had a couple of minor improvements too.

Now the Daban ones are other i'd likely suggest people got with those over the NBK though. - the yellow one is still a good buy though.

And smaller. At this point legends would barely be visible in a few years.

I disagree about the WJ Throttlebots. The ones that I own tend to be remarkably good quality... though I know that not all of the ones on the market are branded as WJ, so it's possible that there have been changes over successive runs. The plastic is quite thick, and for the most part, less hard and brittle than the plastic you find on many of the upscaled WJ stuff.

I won't pretend to have an industrial chemist's understanding of what "high quality" and "low quality" plastics are... but after all these years, I have a pretty good sense of what it feels like in-hand, and I've done enough customizing that I usually can distinguish those brittle, breakage-prone plastics. Sometimes a plastic can seem cheap, right up to the moment you attempt to score or cut it, and then realize how resilient it really is. :lol

Hey, remember when we had both Legends AND Scouts?

We used to have Minicons, Legends, AND Scouts. :)

I miss the old Scout class. I realize current Legends occupy a similar position, but I guess I'm still sad about stuff getting smaller.

And now, come to think of it, we don't even have Legends anymore! With the Siege line, they've been removed, and now we just have weaponizers and micromasters. Hmmm...

They're great. I really like these 3 at this size. I think that Skullcruncher feels the weakest, even with the improvements they've made... the plastic seems more hollow. Weirdwolf is awesome, though can be a bit delicate just around the hinge for cockpit hatch (in wolf mode).

These should be more popular, they definitely deserve to be preserved in the collectordom.

NOME store is like MiniSo. Was passing by one today and noticed there was a toy display inside so went in and had a look.

There's 2 more that it combines with but they didn't have in stock. Diecast parts.
