I thought I'd start up a thread for speculation and discussion leading up to the movie's release in December. I did a search and found nothing, so I apologise if there's a pre-existing thread.

Personally, I hope they keep this film a bit more true to the book, without all the unnecessary additions that distracted me in the first (eg Radaghast, spelling?).

Please keep specific discussion of the previous Hobbit film from last year in its thread. Thanks everyone.

I'm still waiting for at least a promotional poster for Part 2. The Hobbit series so far is going along "so so".

Horrible title, I can just imagine all the people that request a ticket mispronouncing "desolation" much less "Smaug."

They'll probably just say "1 ticket to the Hobbit" and the theater employee would know what they're talking about. I think it's funny that it is the second movie and it can be shortened to "The Hobbit - DOS"

Yeah, they'll just say Hobbit. Same thing happend last time. I just said Hobbit and got the ticket.

I don't think they'll have too much issue with Desolation. Smaug could get some funny pronounciations though.

What would be funny if someone dresses up in a LOTR/Hobbit style outfit. Full wizard gear. Of course the ticket seller will say "Let me guess, Hobbit?". Then say back, "Hell no. I won't be caught dead watching that nerdy shit. I'm here to see ____(the most non geek movie out at the time)_____________" Get the ticket and go watch it.

I actually have a gorilla solider costume that I plan on wearing when the next Planet of the Apes comes out, except I'm gonna buy a ticket for whatever romantic comedy is playing at the time. I wanna make a video when it happens.

Back when the original Pirates of the Caribbean movie came out, there was a cartoon movie called Sinbad out at the exact same time. At the theater I just said "one for the pirate movie" and the cashier knew exactly which one I meant.

    /not the cartoon one.

Be sure to include the video of your arrest when someone freaks out and assumes you're the next theater murderer.

We may get a trailer next week attached to man of steel. Though they usually appear online a couple of days before hand.

While looking for more things that Star Trek Villan Benedict Cumberbatch is in I see that he is the Necromancer and smaug in all the hobbit movies. He does both the voice and motion capture for the part.

Yeah, usually with franchises, you say the main title and people know what you're talking about. Particularly those with multiple sequels, like Ice Age, Harry Potter, Bond, Pirates of the Caribbean, etc etc.

cant wait for the trailer. I imagine that smaug will be the driving force behind the marketing for the movie. slowly teasing him through out the marketing campaign right up until december before we finally see him in the movie.

I'd think they won't show Smaug's full body this first trailer. Parts of him & maybe a 1 second clip of most of him to get people to freeze frame through it to get screen grabs.
