There is some debate over whether or not every version of Sideways is in fact the same character and not different versions of the same concept. His bio and history seems to support the theory that the Sideways who appeared in ROTF is the same character who appeared in the cartoons that came before it and that he simply has the ability to alter his form to match the appearances of Transformers from other Universes.

What do you think? Different versions of the same concept? Or are they all in fact the same universe hopping character?

I'd like him to be, since I love the concept of universe hopping immortals. It's just a shame, since he did frig all in the movie. I want to see a mosaic that shows him doing some sneaky inter-dimensional mission in shanghai. :D

I think it would be awesome if he came back in TF3 with that scar his new HftD figure has.

I'd say no. He's the same character the same way Megatron/Prime/Starscream are in all shows. Similar characteristics but not the same person.

no. Armada Sideways was something special with the whole unicron thing but in Cyberton and ROTF they are just different guys with the same name.

The most likely theory with me is that the Armada Sideways has traveled from the Unicron Trilogy to RiD to Animated.

Meanwhile, some other Decepticon took the name Sideways - the ROTF version - to get respect, since he's a coward.

Or ROTF Sideways and the other universe-hopping Sideways are indeed the same, and being a Herald of Unicron, ROTF Sideways was ressurected and moved on.

let me sum it up like this:
Unicron Trilogy Sideways- A Dimention hopper that seems to get new forms thru out the series pass by (including R.I.D Sideways and Robot Masters DOUBLE FACE.)

ROTF Sideways- Just a bastard minding his own business till sideswipe passed by and slided him in half like a grilled cheese-flavored energon sandwich

Well, I know that it was just supposed to be a joke reference but the Allspark Almanac vol. II most certainly implies that "Animated" Sideways = "Robots In Desguise/Unicron Trilogy/Robot Masters" Sideways = "Revenge Of The Fallen" Sideways...

I don't see any reason why he couldn't be, and I think it'd be cool if he were. (In fact, I'd personally like to see a redeco of his ROTF deluxe in purple/yellow.)

Well, here's the thing; Sideways (based on all the bios put out for him) is a Herald of Unicron and thus has the ability to hop dimensions.

Takara pretty much stated that Car Robots/RID was his first appearance and that Armada/Micron Legend & Cybertron/Galaxy Force followed. The character Double Face (the Micron Legend name for Sideways) in Robot Masters is also confirmed as the same character... though where that fits into his personal timeline is questionable (Robot Masters itself takes place in an alternate G1 reality prior to the creation of Metroplex on Earth... so post Scramble City...).

I honestly see no reason why RotF Sideways couldn't also be Sideways. Much the same as how The Fallen from RotF is still The Fallen from all the other continuities. Getting split in two wouldn't exactly be an issue for a servant of a Dark Deity now would it?

Thing is, he didn't exactly act all Sideways-y in the movie.

And then there's the Hasbro toy bio...

I view sideways as a servant of Unicron. similar to what galvatron, cyclonus & scourge had in the UK/US marvel G-1 comics. all of unicrons servants can hop to different universes.

I kinda viewed planet X in the Cybertron cartoon/toy line as Planet unicron. Sideways & soundwave were upset & sought revenge in the cybertron series because planet X/Unicron got destroyed.

    according to Takara he is

Takara considers R.I.D Sideways to be the same dude as Armada Sideways. Hasbro does not, however

Considering how fast he died he really didn't act like anything...

Hmm. Never bought the toy so I've never read the bio *looks it up* Hmm... so he's essentially a courier and a coward. That doesn't really fit in with what we know about Sideways at all. I guess that really just makes him a throw away character created for the movie like most of the RotF Decepticons... so I guess it's up to a fan's personal cannon to make that decision.

I'd argue the Armada and Cybertron versions don't act the same, either. They're both servants of Unicron with a faction-switching gimmick, yeah. But the Armada one is mysterious and threatening, while the Cybertron one was largely comic-relief. The Armada one was actually a creation of Unicron, while the Cybertron one was a guy working for Unicron in some kind of attempt to resurrect his home planet (though his planet was supposedly a body of Unicron).

Compound this with the fact that in Galaxy Force, the Sideways character was named differently. Takara made it implicit that Sideways from Armada, Robotmasters, and RiD were the same, by the Armada and RM guy both being named "Doubleface," but Cyb. Sideways was "Noisemaze," who both acted different and had a totally different design (possibly ironically, Armada Sideways had a laughable design but was a serious character, while Cybertron Sideways had a slick design but a comic relief character).

And also, this. ROTF Sideways never even had time to reveal his robot mode, how can we discern what personality he had at all? (from the film, at least. From comics and toy bios is another matter)

Oh, and since I haven't actually stated, I'm on the "same guy" stance. If the Armada and Cybertron versions can be so divergent without anyone questioning that they're the same guy, then I see no reason to count ROTF out just because he also had a different personality.

It's hard enough (but not impossible) buying the concept that guys like Unicron and the Fallen are the same person in all universes, but Sideways? ... nah.
