Did a search, got no returns of a thread specifically for the new series featuring Clarkson, Hammond and May so... hopefully this isn't redundant. The Grand Tour Premiered today on Amazon. More of the same from the former Top Gear hosts. Not too keen on Mike Skinner's role in the show so far also going to miss the celebrity in a reasonably priced car gimmick.
Anything to replace the shittiness that is Top Gear now. Although, stuff like MotorTrend, Chris Harris on Cars, Drive, One Take, etc have been absolutely killing it over the years.
I caught the first episode this weekend. It was pretty much exactly what you would expect and I am totally fine with that.
Just watched the first episode. Loved it. Some stuff is actually fake. The whole getting to blow up Clarkson's house is faked. It was destroyed a few weeks before the bet/results. Still amusing though. I do love the new celebrity segment. Reminds me of Police Squad where they would have a celebrity guest in the opening credits getting killed. Florence Henderson was gunned down, etc. very funny stuff. Can't wait to see more. I loved the intro where the guys tell all the jobs they were fired from and Clarkson never was. Technically true. BBC decided not to renew Jeremy's contract. I'm not a car guy, but i love the build episodes (train made of campers, boat cars, hovercraft van, etc) and the international specials (Vietnam, American South, etc). Can't wait for those.
It's what I wanted and expected. My only problem with it is that these guys are getting a little old. Don't get me wrong I love to see them still enjoying themselves and talking about cars. I just don't want to see them break there backs when trying to outdo themselves. Hope to see more.
I watched the second episode... and I expected more. The celebrity death thing is already old. Worse, the way it was set-up almost had me thinking they were going to create the perfect theft prevention system for three vehicles and try to out-do one another with gimmicks. ... ... Then they just went through a training course for the Jordanian Military. And it was good... but miserably staged at all the jokes.
So can't wait. Seeing Rouge One in the morning. Get out shop 1-2 places for figures. Then home to this. Loved ep 4. The environmental cars were hilarious.
Yes, episode four was certainly more of the Top Gear vibe. And the most enjoyable for it. Still don't care for Mike Skinner's role. Haven't seen episode five but at least I'm hopeful that they're working to get things in the right direction.
Episode 5 had me crying. Great episode. Starting to think they need a lot more car reviews and a little less scripting in the tent.
Watched episodes five and six... certainly feeling more like it should. The best part of episode six having to be the reference to the Cenotaph incident with the new Top Gear crew.
