I was talking to TT tonight and talks of BOTCON came up...

Then we thought of an alternative for those fans who have to travel far and would rather not go to Lexington, KY...

So with his blessing, I made this thread up for those who would like an "alternative" to BOTCON '06...

For those who don't know what SDCC is, it's like THE mother of ALL conventions as far as comics/toys/anime/pop-culture goes... TONS of exhibitors there to sell or show their wares INCLUDING HASBRO (they were there last year...)

You can find info about it at: http://www.comic-con.org/cci/

Everyone that I have talked to who has been says it trumps all other conventions, even my favorite WonderCon, which is SDCC's little sister convention here in SF...

It's in July which means no school for those still in school... It also means BEAUTIFUL days in San Diego where there is LIMITLESS things to do...

I'm not trying to steal the thunder from BOTCON but there has been quite a crowd wondering why the heck BOTCON is in Lexington... And I mean no offense to Kentuckyans at all... But if I were to spend an exhorbitant amount of money to go to a convention, I'd like to spend a few extra days and do other things as well...

So how's about it??? If TT makes an effort to go, I will make DAMNED SURE I'm gonna try and make it as well!!!

it would be farther for me, but I would LOVE to go someplace close to home, and out of the hellhole I live in now.

This past year, the LOC Skywarp given away at SDCC was a huge deal, and folks were clamoring for it for months (some still are). Was there any advance notice that Hasbro would do such a thing at SDCC, or was it a surprise at SDCC itself?

We drove the last couple times, but since I'm pushing it with the blackout dates at work we're going to be flying down & back...getting a hotel close to the center too since parking is a bitch...and can be expensive :)

BTW, are you going to the toy show in San Jose on the 25th? Maybe we should all carpool to that :)

DOH!!! Do you know how much rooms near the convention center are???

I figure if I drive, I'm gonna find a hotel a bit further away and just park somewhere and walk or take the bus in...

Plus I'd like to have my car with me just in case we want to go to the SDZoo or Marine World... :thumbs2:

Yep, 25th of this month. I missed the last show since I was in Sacramento with the relatives.

I'll check with Julie, but I think our room was $245 a night. Painful, but not nearly as bad as what they were going for when we got there a few years ago last minute and rooms were $800+ :puke:  We ended up going down the freeway about 15 minutes and found a room for $60. Parking was about $25 a day.
