Indeed! To his credit, Megafishcon is the only one on a really well-lit shelf at present...

Blitzwing, Runamuck and Guzzle were absent that day -- robochickenpox or something, I forget. Devy is admittedly G2 -- the price was too good to pass up!

Currently working on these guys -- four down, Wildrider to go!

I suppose I could stick Nautilator in there as a guest limb for a while... Menasor thermidor, anyone?

I can't afford boxed stuffs anyways. And yet, I've managed to wind up with two boxed vintages.

Well, three, but I'm not counting Skullgrin because his box looks like it's been kicked around. And Landmine needs an insert.

Did they put any of that production / internal document stuff into "The Transformers Vault" - I have not picked up that book yet.

And do you mean animation cells, or something else?
Also, any chance of a photo or link to whatever the things are you have bought, just for reference, doesn't matter if low quality of whatever, just so I have a better idea what you are talking about.

I noticed on an auction site (don't know how old) they sold off some cel model sheets of the 86 movie characters, like Wheelie was yellow etc, I really liked the
cyclonus one. I'd love to own something like that, even replica ones as they just look so cool.

Although they are obscure characters, I would be ecstatic if I could find prototypes/pre-production pieces of Sparkbot Sizzle and Throttlebot Wideload (their original card art would be even more amazing! haha) :)

Thanks to everyone for their insights about collecting and the age they started collecting at. If I recall my memories, indeed the way me and my brother used to handle toys changed a lot with Transformers. First of all, we kept all the boxes, instructions, sometimes even the used sticker sheet. Then we tried to keep them as good as we could, depsite playing with them. A few went broken or damaged, of course, but nonetheless are still with me these very days, apart from Thundercracker and Vortex: they had to be replaced because they literally crumbled to bits!

Transformers are also the series that trigged my interest into completing all the other collections I have (MOTU, TMNT, G.I. Joe, Star Wars). So, in the end I could probably say I started collecting at six or eight myself.

I had all the boxes of my childhood Transformers, but sold them on eBay about ten years ago, upon moving to a new apartment. I then decided never to collect boxed TFs. I do have some because I got them for very good prices, about what I could expect for a loose one, sometimes even less, and kept the Italian GiG Scorponock and the European French/Dutch Sky Lynx boxes from my childhood.

On recent Masterpiece figures, collectors have been using Pledge/Future floor polish products or clear nail varnish.

I called these cels because they're actually drawn and painted on clear acetate, but they were never used in animation. There's a white paper backing that helps the art stand out. These are basically colored versions of the character models that appeared in Jim Sorenson's Ark books, but AFAIK these color ones have never been in any book.

I bought these off eBay back around 2001. WhizBang Collectibles was selling a ton of this kind of stuff: color models, box art, back of box murals, toy prototypes, box and card proofs, rough cuts of instruction booklets, etc.

A member of this site called Furyan now owns most of the color models from the same auctions; if you search back in this thread you can find some of the pics he posted.

A few more of these showed up on eBay earlier this year (along with some GIJoe ones), but the seller had them in lots of 8 and the prices got too high. There were some individual ones I really wanted, too.

Rippersnapper looks sad about his gun floating mid-air instead of being in his hand.

Nah, he's just upset because I wasn't able to get his alt mode :D

Funny how that happened, I won the auctions for the robots modes for Rippersnapper, Sinnertwin, and Blot, and didn't win the alt modes. It's kind of a shame the two modes got split up.

    He's alarmingly tall.
I got my original Sixshot at a flea market for $3.00 years ago (the one I have now is a replacement) but I never had frame of reference for just how tall he is until I started picking up some of the combiner teams. Abominus looks like the guy who beats up Devastator for his lunch money -- and Sixshot is taller than him by a head, shoulders and wingtips!
I don't have Metroplex (yet!), but I'd love to see how Sixshot stacks up next to him.

Holy crap in a hat they are gorgeous! Thanks for sharing. I did see random one online the other day that was pic of the same type you show here, by accident just on google images when looking up something else.

Any idea if these were first sold around the same time as the movie character cels, or different time period?

    There you go!
Box is actually pretty much identical to the American one, just the texts are in French and Dutch.

Oh my... How much time did I spent staring at this box in our local hypermarket...
Hey, sometimes it worked! Not with that one, thought.
