Excellent stuff, thanks for the tips @Embee Prime . I didn't start collecting again until last year and he wasn't high on my list, but my son loves seeing pictures of him in my guide book and kept bugging me to get him. With current prices, wish I had got back into collecting earlier.

I actually have a boxed Metalhawk from childhood. Never one of my favourites, but interesting that it is worth a fair bit now.

That's interesting! Mine was purchased in Portugal in the early 90s.

The only stamp on the trailer if I remember right is a 3 somewhere..?! No other stamp sounds like mine. Yeah these came in the grid box, the first Made in China G1 releases in limited markets. Cool that they made it to Australia too!

Here's a post talking about it (in Chinese, with pics), referred to as the South China Sea version!

    http://bbs.actoys.net/read.php?tid-950368.html

I think I spoke with @Maz briefly about this release, he had one on his blog at one point but I think he sold it on quickly enough.

Square One: Portuguese G1 "Full Block" Optimus Prime Quickie

Interesting points about it, from the link I included, is that the mechanism for firing Roller out of the trailer is super strong (mine doesn't work anymore, but I do remember it being quite powerful!)

The eyes are also perfectly painted in a lovely lighter shade of yellow:

Love how you go that extra mile to really make the figure feel like it's part of the picture, not just pasted in. Bravo good sir!

Thank you very much my friend! It's much appreciated. I make these for fun to keep my skills up...but it still takes time and some thought. It's nice when someone notices the small stuff. I'm glad you like em. I'm working on a new one right now. Hopefully it'll be done in a few hours. :)

Following discussion with @Embee Prime ,I received my Raiden giftset sold as loose originals in repro packaging (giftset box from our friend in Portugal).

It is quite magnificent, but I noticed a few things.
    • Only 3 had rub symbols and Takara date stamps
    • 2 had Takara stamps blocked-out - presumably KO
    • 1 had a spring mechanism - I believe only available in the original Diaclone
The seller seemed to be unaware of these details and apologised for the KO bits, but made a good point that the Diaclone was valuable, so we settled on a small partial refund.

Overall, pleased to have a representation, was very satisfying to combine and looks great. Will post some photos at some point.

Or they are the zone release. When they rereleased in the zone package, they removed the rubsigns

Interesting, thank you, I did notice that on some listings I've seen. Do they have blanked out Takara stamps?

I was watching Wotafa's review on Youtube, that reinforced the idea about only Diaclones having the spring mechanism.

He' always iconic,I'd just replace the belt because too funny and replace it with a MOTU or metal music style to render him really barbarian and 100% dark!

Spendid packages and combiners and Abominus art is the most beautiful.

I know Diaclone were the only ones with the spring. I don't remember the stamping details on the zone release, but I am pretty sure they had a Takara stamp somewhere on them.

So just something I was wondering about, but what was the quality of original G1 stickers? I wasn’t alive back then so I’ve only dealt with reissues. Was it more like the thin stickers of the recent Walmart reissues, or the thick paper ones of the early 2000’s reissues?
